Indians were amazing. No a single player lost his temper in such a crucial final. They played an excellent and high quality hockey. I pay tribute to Indian team and also tribute to Pakistan team. They jointly showed the world how to play beautiful hockey.

Ajitpal Singh, Ashok Kumar, Aslam Sher Khan, Harcharan Singh, Mohinder Singh, Surjit Singh, Govinda, Philips, Shivaji Pawar, Islahuddin Siddiqui, Safdar Abbas, Akhtar Rasool, Samiullah Khan, Zahid Sheikh, Manzoor Jr, Manzoor Hasan, Munawwar uz Zaman and others ..... just sublime.

I was 13 years old when India and Pak played this final and India lifted the world cup Hockey. For us Young India ( just 28 years after Independence) this was a very proud moment. I remember our family had gone out for lunch with family friends at the fancy Ashoka restaurant Nagpur. But my friends and brother could NOT concentrate on the food. So we stood outside the restaurant at a paan thela where we could listen to the live commentary of the legendary Jasdev singh and others. I remember vividly ( it was a tense and close contest) when India scored the winning goal through Ashok Kumar and when the long whistle blew and India was world champions, we broke into a frenzied dance and people joined and there was a big traffic jam on the main street. there were mad celebrations. Hockey had brought name and fame to Indian sports whereas we were not doing well in cricket those days. Great moments for India and the Indian team and the Pakistani team were also absolutely brilliant! It was an amazing contest. Hockey at that time was MUCH MORE POPULAR than cricket! it was after this victory that the EUROPEAN TEAMS realized they could NOT match India and pak in field hockey -- played on natural grass and they INVENTED Artifical turf CALLED ASTRO TURF which should have never happened. it was done only because European nations did NOT have the brilliant talent subcontinent had and the whole game was CONVERTED into pure power play ( no skills needed... only strength!) and this LED to the DEATH of Hockey's popularity. Aaj bhi if Hockey is moved back to natural grass as it should have always been India and pak would be the best teams in the world. Shame on Hockey federation International to have allowed this CHEATING and FOUL PLAY

Golden moment. I watched this match live on tv as a 12 yrs old boy at home with family. Being Malaysian indians of tamil origin, We were very happy to witness the nemerous time Olympic champion to be crowned as the world champion in our soil. I still have the news paper cuttings pasted in my large 'sports book' about the match including the whole Malaysian and lndian teams. Malaysia achieved 4th place with many lndian (Tamil) players in our national team. Sadly, that was the best ever achievement by us. Thereafter and to date, the performance of Msian team is in shamble. Anyway, happy to note lndia hockey is back @ Tokyo 2020 with a bronze winning achievement.

It has been 46 years since India won the World Cup but unfortunately future Indian national teams have failed to win the World Cup.
As if the 1975 World Cup triumph is like a "curse" to India just like England winning the football 1966 World Cup at Wembley.
India's 1975 World Cup victory came with a heavy price because at the same Australia were analysing and studying the strengths and weaknesses of India that came in handy the following year at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. And India were very fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw in a group match against the Kookaburras at the same World Cup at Kuala Lumpur.

I am from Gujranwala Punjab Pakistan,I was 13 years old in 1975,I watched live match on TV from Kula Lumpur Malaysia, I think India had not such live telecast facility in mid 70s,It was one of the greatest match of world cup history between two rivalries. Unfortunately India lost their hockey glory after 1975 and Pakistan in mid 80s. Cricket replaced hockey in both countries, Indian hockey have shown some improvement whereas Pakistan hockey is still at lowest in history of Pakistan Hockey.

In 1975, I was 16 years old and I alongwith my 5-6 friends daily used to watch them practicing for hours and also play with team players at PU sports ground.

A player from historical place Jhansi(UP). Though struggle made by Captain Ajitpal Singh, Surajeet Singh can't be forgotten.Excellant penalty strock conversation into goal by penalty strock specialist Mohinder Singh are our golden memories. Thanks, for the then entire hockey team. I remember the running commentary of this match in the evening. The great radio commentators were Jasdev Singh and Joga Rao in Hindi and Dr Narotam Puri in English. We could get a feel that of live match through their effective commentary. What a magical voice Late S Jasdev Singh had. Those were the days when Asian Style Hockey was world famous. India, Pakistan and Malaysia were the leaders.
Baldev Singh , Ajit Singh, Chand Singh and Varinder Singh also used to be the active members of this team.
I can see Ashok Kumar ( son of Dhyan Chand, the Magician of Hockey)
is playing Right Out , Ajit Pawar Centre Forward and Harcharan Singh Left Out. What a great video taking us down the memory lane.

In those days hockey was all skill, all the laws and rules have been changed to suit Europeans. Please correct me if I am wrong, this was India’s only world cup win. Pakistan won next two world cups 1978 and 1982. They won there last world cup in 1994. I think they are ranked 18 in the world now. It’s nice to see India reemerge as one of the top teams. But hockey is not the same. It’s more like football

That 1975 3rd World Cup hockey final between India and Pakistan at the Merdeka Stadium was beamed live by RTM on the afternoon of March 15.
I was then fifteen and was about to sit for the LCE in seven months time.
In 1975 there was no coloured TV transmission until 1978.So it was in black and white when Malaysian hockey fans including me watched that historic classic between two Asian hockey giants.
Pakistan were technically and tactically the superior side but India were more determined and spirited. Moreover Pakistan had to do without skipper Abdul Rashid who was injured just before the tournament.
And India came back strongly despite being a goal down like what they did with Malaysia in the semi finals to win 2-1 albeit with the winning goal a controversial one awarded by the late umpire G.Vijayanathan.

Great though the Indian team that won the 1975 World Cup team but their failure to beat Australia in a group match drawing only 1-1 was the harbinger of things to come.
Australia had sounded a warning to the eventual World Cup champions not to take them lightly in future meeting.
India basked in winning the 1975 World Cup beating their arch rival Pakistan 2-1 in the final. That World Cup triumph in Kuala Lumpur made up for the painful penalty flicks defeat to host Holland in the 1973 final at Amsterdam. Then India led 2-0 with a brace from Surjit Singh and should have scored more after that. But the Dutch short corner specialist Ties Kruize equalized also with a brace at 2-2.With barely thirty one seconds left on the clock India were awarded a penalty stroke.B.P.Govinda had the great chance to score and the World Cup could be India's.But he blew that chance and Maarten Sikkings made a great save.
Yes that 1975 World Cup triumph at the Merdeka Stadium made up for the bitter disappointment of losing the 1973 final.
But one country in particular already have spotted weaknesses and vulnerabilities in the Indian team. They had learnt a lot from that 1-1 draw with India in a group match in Kuala Lumpur.Australia that is and the Kockaburras will indeed be a haunting nightmare for India in the years to come and even until now.
The following year at the Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976 the nightmare for Indian hockey began.Australia handed a 6-1 thrashing to India. The Kockaburras indeed would be the nemisis to India in international hockey.
