iPhone 12 Mini VS iPhone SE (2020)! Why Pay TWICE As Much?!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- Today we're comparing my two favorite phones of recent memory, but despite having a lot of the same functionality the iPhone 12 mini costs almost twice the cost of the iPhone SE from 2020.
So is it worth twice as much?
Lets find out!

I am a iPhone convert and my SE never fails me. Your video on the SE made me the switch 😊
The mini is a good idea since all their newer phones are hella bigger than the past ones
Yeah there has definitely been a trend towards larger phones recently.
6.1" isn't even a big screen
George Monks I’m saying that whenever they come out with a new phone, it usually is bigger than the last, and some people don’t like bigger phones so it was a pretty decent idea :)
Id rather get the iphone SE mostly because it's cheap some carrier's offer it for 250$!! Which you can't beat with 250$ you get alot
Androids have been the size of the Max since 2016. About time they're making bigger phones
THANK YOU for such a practical review of both of these phones. I bought the SE 2020 a few months ago , and I love it! It's a little powerhouse! I also appreciate how you base your reviews on ways most people actually use their phones on a daily basis - and not benchmark numbers like other tech reviewers. The iphone 12 mini is a great device, but the features it boasts over the SE: 5G capability, Night camera mode, wide lens cameras, etc., are not features which make a big difference in my life. However, the SE's home button and Touch ID? Those are godsends and should be standard on every Apple phone.
usb-c is not coming to iPhone, it’s defintely going portless before that!
MagSafe will probably be the new standard. If they remove the lightning port ⁉️
It will be portless within 2 years. I hope so. the port is so old
@@herohour6496 probably going to be portless for the iPhone 13 lol
@@hollywoodthedj1673 es bueno!!!
@@hollywoodthedj1673 of course not. When has apple ever been the first to change something
Finally someone said it. Appreciate your honesty, I love my iPhone se 2020
Love my SE 2020 as well
How is battery life a day?
Same, i have iphone se and i love it
@@sardordoniyorov9471 battery life on se is quite good, 3-5 hours if you are using it all the time i think but yeah, i have used iphone se for 3 days now and i love it, even battery is good, it’s better than my 5s what dies in like hour or 2 hour
@@sardordoniyorov9471 i reconmend u buy it, it’s good phone for average user,
“I have to put in my pin on my phone!!!”
First world problems 😂😂
Because that’s where we live.
I live in India which is obviously a 3rd world country and putting a pin is a pain in the ass for everyone like even 100$ phones come with a fingerprint scanner
@@yahyahasan1554 that's so true
@@yahyahasan1554 in the winter people are wearing gloves soo...scanner is useless
@@tp5805 face unlock is there as well if some phones don't have fingerprint scanner they have face unlock
YOU, my friend, deserves waaayy more subscribers!! I am holding on to my 8+. Love my phone. I had an xs max before and couldnt get used to face id or the notch. Yes I returned it! The newer models are not for everyone and thats ok ! It seems now its like a status symbol to walk around with a new iphone. Not me baby, I rather spend that $1,000.00 + on a trip. All I need is a PHONE, and my 8 + is more than sufficient🙌🏽

Well said! It’s all about simplicity good quality & savings
I also agree with u, i had 5s for 3 years and now i have iphone se
Yup. Unlike wishy washy reviewers.
*cough*unbox therapy*cough
Upgraded from the se2020 and could not be happier 😃 they came out with a update with mask unlocking? Locking all the 12 mini videos love my 12 mini
Lol , I’m still using my iPhone SE 2016 from 2017
Me 2
I moved from a 5 to an SE 2020. Only mistake was (as is always the problem) they didn’t have larger than the 64 in stock unless I wanted to drive “across hell & half of Texas” to double that volume.
The plan to for apple go portless/wireless for 5G might be giving Timmy Cook “talc hard tumescence” but NO. If I had his cash and employee discount, a yearly upgrade to a pro max with maxed-out storage might be a “no-brainer”
In the end, upgrading to a maxed out SE might be all that’s necessary. (Probably because $450 for a phone that lasts 2-4 years has always been good enough for me in the past.) And the previous phone becomes a great MP3 player. After all, you don’t need all the apps after you upgrade models, and by now, you’ve probably got at least 2 or 4 old sets of earphones, and several power cords/power bricks...
Oh me me!
@@todddiesen2647 So, you like the SE 2020?
@@victorcapote7376 it’s been good, and I’ll keep the 20, just need to upgrade to one with 256 gb storage option
I have the SE 2020 and the only draw back to me is that they did not make it as small as the mini.
I’m 100% with you on Touch vs Face ID. It’s the only thing I can’t stand about my 11.
I really appreciated your detailed side-by-side comparison of these two phones! Keep 'em comin'!
Honestly, if it weren't for the battery life, I'd be all in on the iPhone 12 Mini.
I'd rather have a phone that's comfortable and bring along a small battery with me than need a bigger phone that I don't like 100% of the time.
@@TheEverydayDad sounds contradictory, at that point of needing to bring multiple things I'd rather just have a slightly bigger phone
@@TheEverydayDad .. That’s Factz and the reason I stopped using my iPhone XR it was just too big and uncomfortable for my hands it’s just sitting in a drawer now may trade it in for the 12 mini just because but I’m sure not getting rid of my SE because I loooooove Touch ID it’s so convenient for everything!
@Jay Talents the iPhone 12 mini is a better deal u 210 trade in plus I add cash to my itune gift card on a monthly basis. So the 12 will cost like $150.
@@dzevadbayraktar322 I completely understand. I’m power user listening to Audible for 6hrs a day, but I have to admit even after owning a 11 pro max and the 12 mini is by far my favorite. Even with a third party battery case the phone is still way smaller then my 11pro and could last all day. Problem solved.
Watching this on my iPhone SE AND also wearing a Coke shirt 😂
Update: The one and only complaint I have with the SE is the battery life but everything else has been fantastic
"Budget" is most definitely a relative term.
I wouldn't even describe the SE as a "budget" phone, especially when what you're getting is a souped up 6s/7/8! 😉😉
That said, in terms of design, I'd prefer it over anything Apple has come up with since.
SE is Budget phone for Apple. And still one of the best phones out there in its price range.
I just put down the money for the 12 Mini last night. The SE (2nd gen) was really compelling but, I've been resisting to upgrade because of the larger sizes all this time (I have the 1st gen SE). I'm going for the smaller phone, even if it comes at a hefty premium.
Bought the 12 Mini. But selling it today and coming back to SE. I don’t know why but the Mini is so uncomfortable in hand. Was using 11 Pro and 12 too but i now feel the SE is just fine.
That doesn’t make any sense bro who would pick the SE over the iPhone pro or 12
@@Ecmane1 3 reasons...
1. Price
2. Size
3. Mini is way too small and feels uncomfortable and 12 is quite big. SE size is perfect. And also the biggest advantage... touch ID. Face ID is non functional with masks.
Yep got my SE in March and bought it due to the price. $699 is way too much for a phone for me. If and when the mini comes down in price I’ll be interested in upgrading but the SE is still a fantastic phone for the money and is by far the better buy.
Entertaining, informative, refreshing comparison. Thank you for not relying on benchmarks to make your points. Since you’re such a big Ipad + magic keyboard fan, please make a video comparing that setup to the new M1 MBA (once you’ve had it for a bit). While I prefer the form factor of the MBA, I much prefer the simple iPadOS to macOS! Thanks Gary.
Have both, while I love the dual cameras on the mini and love the full screen compared to the se, but the fact that you can’t repair anything, no Touch ID, and the green/yellow tint to the mini display is horrible. My opinion? Get the se in 256 gb and don’t look back. Need a screen replacement or battery swap? Cheap af for the se as everything is swappable with a iPhone 8.
I have a iPhone 8 and for some reason I be swiping down to open the control center like I have a iPhone 12 😂😂
😂😂
I looked at my iPhone 12 and XR my mum has. I prefer the XR screen. Even though it’s just LCD… I dunno it just looks better to me
I upgrade my iPhone 8 to the mini. I love my Mini except the Face ID, especially with a mask on. I definitely considered the SE but it was enough of a difference and I really wanted an OLED screen and blue and the cameras. I love how lightweight the Mini is.
Wait for 13 for on-screen fingerprint scanner. Face ID is a pain in the arse especially when you wear masks.
I think no one goes for iPhone se if you give him choice but budget are different
I just upgraded from the se 2020 to the 12 mini today. I was going to go with the 2022 se but for $70 more I went modern. Hope I don’t miss the home button too much. Great vid
It's impossible to have a bad review about these 2 phones
Totally agree with your take on touch ID. I have two numbers so I have the SE and I've ordered the mini as well but the face ID will certainly drive me crazy,
Apple : Customers are complainig about the slow chargers we provide in box so how do we resolve it
Employee : Lets Exclude that slow charger too from the box
Just an idea, it would be cool if they gave an iPhone 12 mini option where you can have a home button, but with that you get the front glass of the iPhone 8 style and a lcd not an oled and one rear camera, price it around $500.
The iPhone mini is an iPhone 12, your suggestion is contradicting to what the phone actually is.
It really depends on which kinda phone user you are. Like me ...I don’t play games with my phone and stuff like that. I also don’t use Facebook/ RUclips or insta that much. Really less.... so battery sometimes lasts for 2 days and I’m always try to charge just between 30/80% battery level.
Also I love the Home Button 😅...
especially in this time, when you pay with it.
Personal Conclusion... I’ve never had an iPhone before SE 2020, always Android. I just love that performance and everything is build up on iOS...
So if you are a basic phone user, and want some high quality for less money ...best desicion you can make with a SE 2020
I’ve owned a 5s, 2016 SE, and 2020 se. 7 years of satisfaction and counting
To me it's more about if you want touch ID or if you want a full screen display
"Enjoy Coke" ... Alright !!!
Honestly I hate Touch ID. I don't know if it's just my iPhone 6, but it's terrible. It takes like 5 tries to get it to work, and I constantly have to wipe off the home button. I'd much rather have the more secure and accurate Face ID. Even if I have a mask on, It's still easier to use my passcode than my fingerprint. So I'd rather have Face ID sometimes than just to be stuck with my passcode as my best option all the time. That's just me though.
Yea, I love the iPhone 12 design, but I went with the SE2020. I just needed an iPhone to operate my series 6 Apple Watch and I do not regret going with the SE.
The benefit i see with the SE is not only is it cheaper but it is compatible with the iphone 7's smart battery case so it would outlast the 12 mini with it while still being cheaper. You could always get a 3rd party battery case for the 12 mini but there's something special about it integrating perfectly with the phone
I will go for the SE.👍
At 3:32 you said, “the dang notch separates the pull down functions.” My Team disagrees. We have an iPad Pro and we can do the same pull down without a notch. We don’t need a physical physiological barrier for a repetitive function. For that reason my team came in with a negative for this post.
He isn’t wrong, but he didn’t give the full story. With recent iOS, if you pull down from near the upper right you get control center; if you pull down from anywhere else (including the notch) you get notifications.
@@Sashazur dear dr. Sash: my team stands by my dang team’s point. This was a massive barrier for my dang team.
I hate touch id. Half the time my hands are sweaty and touch id cant register my thumb.
in my country I found a store that offered both phones with just a difference of $100 lol so I bought the 12 mini and i’m soooo happy w it :)
Just bought the iphone SE 2020 on 19 Mar 2021 and I am holding it more than my main phone Blackshark 2 Pro. I only use my Blackshark for Netflix and games. Simply love the iPhone! Xoxo
For that price, i will go with the iphone SE, mainly because of the fingerprint sensor. I hope after this pandemic Apple will consider to bring back that fingerprint sensor to the iphones. Maybe integrated in the Screen.
Appreciate you for using dispassionate instead of fair as the adjective.
Great Video, I have the SE 2020 and it's amazing. Its perfect. Thank you for your honesty
What about its battery life??can you please tell me
@@hrudaynayak9855 let me help you. It changes from person to person. The SE is absolutely not for gamers, you can game at least 3-4 hours with this phone. I usually charge it up to 80% (I’ve heard it is good for the battery). It can keep up a day. What I do is texting, Whatsapp, browsing, streaming music, a little bit of RUclips and Twitch. But you need to use apps that is energy efficient. For example: I use Snapchat for 5 minutes, the battery drains so fast it uses almost twice as much as Instagram for 30 min.
If you ask about the screenbrightness, I keep it low because I have sensitive eyes.
Great review keep up the good work!
For a moment forget the phones and see his mail “56800 it is
I hope Apple puts Touch ID on the power button like they did with the iPad Air
To be honest the points made in this video could be generalized to all smartphones. Even the cheapest phones will have at least 95% of the functions of the most expensive ones but still people buy expensive phones.
With the centered apple logo, single camera and no iphone text - the iPhone SE has the cleanest looking back of all iPhones.
I'm a iPhone 6 user jumped to iPhone 12 mini. I hate it when I wake up from bed and can't use FaceID well... This is the first time I think Touch ID is way better than FaceID at ease of usage.
Thanks for making this vid!
Thank you for watching!
Nice video. Its haunting that some of you guys have that many notifications.
Very honest, tho he could have mentioned that the SE comes with charging brick, headphones, and cable, and also doesn’t have $30 extra to buy unlocked. iPhone 12 cost $30 more unlocked, without headphones and charging brick.
The flat sides are easier to hold one handed when watching a video.
I wanted to buy SE initially, as my gateway to apple ecosystem. But since my service provider offered my renewal with little difference between SE and 12 mini, I took the latter.
I got the 12 mini for $700 and my brother got the SE for free when we started phone lines with Verizon. I’d say he got the better deal. I do enjoy the 12 mini though!!
I have been rocking my SE with a apple smart battery case and it’s perfect
The notch...I hate the notch!
After a while it becomes comfortable you don’t even notice lol
I'm going for the mini want the full screen with that tiny size plus for work I have a phone, so carrying around 2 is quite a difference. The battery on this mini is fixable with a extended battery case for a little thickness increase I think thats worth it.
Awesome review I am watching on my SE which I love, but how come you didn’t compare the cameras? I would of loved to see side by sides.
Probably because it's quite the difference in camera quality tbh
I’ve hated Face ID for the last two years on my XR. Just bought the SE because I miss Touch ID.
@@Edelboutique Only downside is a noticeable decrease in battery life. Everything else I’m very happy with. If battery life is really important to you you might want a bigger phone with bigger battery. If you’re often near a plug then the SE is great.
SE gang 🔥
Are you saying that the battery life is that close, I swear that the numbers I've seen show that screentime on the 12 mini is much longer by hours than the SE. I also question hamstringing yourself without 5g. While not necessary, a phone you will most likely keep for 4-5 years means that should really be a consideration.
In my country you can almost buy 3 iPhone se 64gb in the price of iPhone mini 64gb
Well Samsung has that retina scanner that works with a mask on
But it's barely successful and much less secure
What's the colour you'd recommend on the mini?
I am leaning towards the purple (for the novelty, it's more like lilac in real life) mint green or the white
The blue is looking nice as well in this video
I have been using a black iPhone X for the past few years so black is off the list
Your preferences?
You need help picking a damn color?
In my opinion the 12 Mini should've started at $599 and the 12 at $699 (same as previous year iPhone 11) I know they added the OLED display and 5G but a $200 diference between the SE and 12 Mini has more sense, like the $200 between iPhone 12 and 12 Pro.
I actually don't mind using a pin to unlock...
same but i prefer touch id or face id
bruh.. in my country price difference between SE and Xr is ~$100. IMO SE is not worth it unless you really need that small form factor
Compare with the SE from 2016: '16 wins on size, hands down....discussion over! You can get a lightly used one for $100 +/-..........which makes this decision the epitome of a no-brainer.
Also you get the charger and EarPods with $399 iPhone SE which you don’t get with the $699 iPhone 12 mini.... Value for money
You don’t have anymore
Well, and you are saying this with dollar price tag, imagine us in a country where the 12mini is insanely close to twice the price of an SE (549usd vs 995usd), is not even a question 🤷🏽♂️.
Same here on the grocery list 😷
Remember that there is also the iPhone 11
Thats very true.
I was very worried about the new OLED screens cause PWM. But so far, reviews are quite positive for the displays. So I am considering the 12 Mini in blue. It will go really well with the blue Apple Watch Series 6. iJustine is to blame here... 🤣
Overnight battery draining issue in iPhone 12 models, make a video on it please
Do you have a review on iPhone11? If it can be used as the only editing device? Thanks
Since the 11 also runs iOS14 and also has video and USB capability, I’m sure it can be.
This video isn’t sponsored by Apple .. but for some reason geez I could drink me some Coca Cola
My iPhone SE is awesome man, especially because of the masks I don’t have to type in my password like a caveman every time I wanna unlock my phone. Bring back Touch ID
They are bringing out in-screen Touch ID for the iPhone 13.
@@victorcapote7376 probably gonna call it iPhone 14 since 13 is a “cursed” number lol
@@hlokomani Weird reason, but all right.
For real, cheap android phone have onscreen fingerprint sensor or even on the power button. Apple is more than capable to add that to upcoming phones
Uhm, same sort of camera? You are kidding me. The difference in apperture is big.
Iphone SE: 12 MP, f/1.8 (wide)
Iphone 12 Mini: 12 MP, f/1.6, 26mm (wide), 1.4µm

-Face ID
-All screen design
-5G
-OLED Display
-Better Cameras
-Bigger Screen
-Better camera zoom
-More performance
-Ceramic Shield
-Better water resistance
-MagSafe
-Better Screen Resolution
-Smaller
-Square Edges
-Night Mode
-Deep Fusion
-12 MP FaceTime camera
-Animoji

I do think the SE does step up in authentification since Face ID isn't the best, especially in this day and age.
I am using iPhone se2020 now, after a month the battery health became 98%. Is it normal? First time iPhone user. Thanks for the answer.
It's been a year since I bought Se2020...no harm at all and its fit for me as the basic iphone off cause value for money instead of mini2020...otherwise mini2020 gorgeous than SE20...so SE20 just good enough for basic beginners to hold iphone ecosystems...don't harm your poket money by buying mini20.
I briefly owned the SE 2, but returned it because the battery life was too poor, even for me. Just got the 12 Mini. Being rated at 2 hours better than the SE 2, my jury is currently out on if it can meet my expectations.
i love the 12 mini screen though. but i miss the button from the SE.
Looks like apple changes the case shape every few generations.. in some years you get rounded corners and in some years sharp edges .. so there is a phone for everyone xD.. i had the 4s and the 3gs .. and i like the round corners more .. :)
Which editing software you using in the video on iphone ?
Inspite of all the cons how many of u like the iphone se 2020 white colour variant 🤍
I have Xs and it's too big. I find it super annoying that I can't use it with 1 hand. Just ordered mini so that I can use it with 1 hand.
So can we subscribe to a only for mobile netflix plan and watch it on bigger screen.
iPhone mini is not a budget phone it’s a mini iPhone 12.
For new full screen design, 5G, OLED, much better cameras, better resolution.
I have the se and the new se and a fan of fingerprint over Face ID.
Apple should put Touch ID on the Apple logo on the back of their phones. Maybe they should put the logo back where it used to be to make it more reachable
The new iPad air has touch iD in the power button. More likely they would do that rather than put it in a logo - also remember the logo is where the wireless charging coil is.
I heard
ip se2020 battery is worst 3hrs pubg gaming
While ip 12mini 6hrs pubg gaming
I totally agree with you on:
1. I want TouchID nowadays, and for the next year at least masks will be a must and FaceID is a pain in the a$$
2. I also prefer the old design on hand it feels more natural. I can totally understand that the next Boxee design it makes sense from an engineering perspective but not on my hand.
Not deal-breakers, and I already switched from iPhone X to iPhone 12 Pro Max after three years.
We need to talk about that circle on the back of the iPhone 12 mini. Is that caused by using the MagSafe charger?
I think so
Gary, have you recieved macbook with M1
I think maybe tomorrow
But some people will get it early
If you already have a 12 Pro Max and looking to purchase a secondary small phone, would you pick the 12 mini or the SE (2020)? Why?
