You asked about others' experiences moving abroad. Here's mine. I grew up in Texas. Where you grow up, you don't really know the alternatives. So if your home life is good, you're pretty happy. It's only when you finally go someplace very different that you discover more of what's possible. Then you consider your home and compare. The mountains of Colorado were my next home, because that was WAY better than Texas (for me). But after more years than you probably have lived, I got an opportunity to move to Amsterdam. That was Awesome. It was Expensive too. But it was Awesome. Eventually, though, you kind of extract all the new/different things that are exciting. Then you're left with what the people who have always lived there have. So for me, that now means 3 months of nice weather, 3 months of so-so weather, 6 months of crap weather, and 12 months of expensive living. There's a lot more to appreciate about the Netherlands, but there are a lot of things I would change. Obviously coming from the mountains of Colorado to the flat lands of NL, I miss nature and mountains. My few months in Thailand have been heaven. The people are open and friendly and kind (and positive). The weather is perhaps 4 months great, 3 months so-so, and 5 months not great depending on where you live. Chiang Mai during burning season is no bueno. Islands during heavy rain and still high temp periods are swamps. But if you are afforded the option of mobility, you can avoid some of the bad times in certain places. And as you point out, it's that cost of living which is a key factor. When the cost of living is so low, some of us have the luxury of changing locations when the season is bad. Yes it's a privilege, so we must make an extra effort to be kind and generous when we visit places like Thailand. We absolutely must not be entitled a**holes who act as if privilege is a birthright.
I'm American, but my family is from Italy and my aunts and cousins are still there, but I have my cousin Eddie who was born here but wanted to travel and live in other places. He tried South Korea, Italy, Greece, and he finally settled in Bali for many of the reasons you mentioned. The cost of living, he was able to start his own yoga business and has people come from all over the world to take his classes. His studio is beautiful and right by the water. He said he will never move anywhere else. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Ciao Gabi, I am an Indian & my friend is Italian. Its been 14 years we have been visiting each other. Every year I use to go to Europe & he used to Visit India. But last couple of years, Its him who is visiting more to India. I completely agree with your points. Very well said. Things r no more same in Europe the was it used to be a decade before. U also need to add access to healthcare facilities is easier in Asia then in Europe. But yes, as you said, Italy is always beautiful to visit as a tourist & enjoy Italian food! Molto Saporitto!

Everything closing down over covid, governments were unprepared. No excuse because somehow now they finding billions to do this, that or the next thing. The rich have somehow got richer and the poor and the middle class are much poorer. I can understand governments demanding more in taxation and utilities for maybe a year after covid to make up their deficits, but I think they got greedy as the money poured in. Why stop all that good stuff. Prices need to return to pre-covid levels. Rentals, utilities, food - but instead certain individuals and companies see what they have got away with recently - shrink-flation and substituting anything decent for cheap and nasty. Even fruit & veg doesn't taste the same - cheap methods of growing it - gmo to make things grow bigger and faster and heavy pesticide use. Why do we put up with this? I take food items back all the time now. If everyone said no we are not going to accept this they would stop doing it. We have so much collective power but we are all struggling in our own way and it's just easier to put up with it. Things need to change.
I'm Thai but I studied in Milan before and I quite understand you because that time I don't know about salary and politic in Italy because I'm just an international student but I can feel everything there expensive (but coffee is good price for me) and I can see my italian friends always back their house for meal. Hope you live better in Thailand.
From Australia here I can’t leave here permanently as I love my family and pets too much. My mum is 83 and has dementia. Holidays are great but home is where the heart is.
the last 3 years, starting with cov*d, it got much much worse in Europe. I am from Germany and i lived in Thailand from 2015-2020. When i came back i couldnt trust my impressions. In Germany most things got worse, the media, the politics, also a major part of society are really nuts since 3 years. You see that with the current conflict in the ukraine. Our politicians are insane and the people have to pay everything. I will move to Thailand again in 2 weeks ;)
@@ridewithgabi thanks, i will go to koh phangan again. thats my island. been there a lot of times on holidays, i think the first time in 2002. and then i moved fully in 2015. thx to covid i had to go back to GER. the island is just perfect. and as i am djing this is a good place to go. maybe we can meet some time when you are back...there is also a qite cool Italian community. small but special. one italian woman runs a great beach resort where i sometimes play for sunset, i think she is from turino.

@@yharnamprince5035 well, i am a well known dj....so i don't know if that helps. well, i started a company (you need business visa, lawyer, lots of paper work) to get a work permit. I paid tax and everything legal. As Phangan is known for many good and great electronic Parties i got well paid. But thats not "normal". To go there in 2015 i saved around 15k EUR to have a solid start but i knew already what i wanna do in Thailand as i spent a lot of holidays there and made contacts, played already and so on. So maybe i am not a great example.
Gabi, i live more then 10 years in TH and i never regret it ! Like you said in the video, the cost of living / ratrace in EU is crazy and you're 100´% right about the quality life in EU.... that i miss sometimes but the feeling of freedom in TH is PRICELESS !!! Ciao

Hi Gabi, your sentiments on italy are similar to mine then add lack of social life especially if you don't live in the major cities. I relocated here from Kenya and now I have learnt to love and appreciate my country more as much as we have high corruptions back home but if im to compare with Italy, socially its more fun to live back home than here. In Italy people are more closed so creating friendships is hard, starting businesses is a nightmare but like you say, the quality of life is awesome in Europe, so that goes to say no place is 100%. Since moving to Italy I fell in love with the history and culture and I love travelling because Italy has so much to see and I too create videos while travelling and this helps me cope as well as beat the winter blues that's just arrived, ooh my... All in all life isn't easy anywhere but we must learn to cope and enjoy . Thanks Gabi, learning some editing skills from you as well.

I am new to your travels but really love them . I have been to India over 10 times… I live in qld australia , it is crazy expensive , on a treadmill just to get by . Your honesty is so spot on about your homeland Italy ... same in England about the pros and cons ... quality of life in England would be hard to leave for my favourite holiday destination Phuket 😀 ... Thank you, yes I noticed there is so much to unpack now 😅 The truth is that I decided to become a digital nomad, and Thailand was my first destination. In the later months I moved to other countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Mexico, Brazil, etc. But in a future video I will definitely explain why I spend most of my time in Thailand 😉

Hey Gabi! Just got back from work in bakery and saw THIS particular video. Very noble and overall 'it makes sense' reasons to say Ciao Italia. I'm experiencing similar issues at the moment. Personally was blessed enough to lived in Asia from 1994-2007. Since '07 lived in Poland (country I was born), then UK 2010-14 and now over 8years in Germany. To be perfectly honest, there is no a passing day I'm not thinking about Asia. I'm at this point, that I too will leave this damn rat freaking race rather sooner than later bro. Gabi is right on target on all points he mentioned . Yes here in New York the cost of living is high and people complain about everything . But that is nothing compared to what is going on in Europe .
Life unfortunately is getting worse and worse in every place of the world. The cost of living and all the new things that are coming the last years in our lives make us not feeling so happy and with no worries. Every day we wake up and something new is dominating our thoughts because we don't know any more how to react and what we have to do to predict the next day. The last 2 and a half years has teach to us to take nothing for granted. People cant find the real meaning of happiness. We travel we try to do the best for us and ourselves but all these matters as you mentioned in your vlog is in front of us. Paying every bill in 3-4 times more than before unfortunately doesnt let us a lot of border. I live in Frankfurt the last 3-4 years but honestly doesn't worth for nothing. Two people must work for being able such to pay all the cost and having to eat, not even to think for some more luxuries. Of course i move asap back in my country, don't compare the food and the quality of life with nothing in the world 👌❤️🇬🇷💋
I completely agree with your three reasons for leaving Italy. The cost of RUclips Premium is a great example. Everything is just so expensive in Europe. As for my experience? I spent 8 years outside my home country. I worked as a language teacher in a Chinese city, Cairo and Bangkok for almost a year each. At 9-10 months I always had a problem, either with my job or my VISA and had to leave, or it was easier to leave than try to solve problem. Whenever I was between jobs I travelled for months at a time. It was very easy for me to find another language teaching job wherever I wanted to live next. I ended up teaching English online for four years and gave up my extensive travel without work...mainly due to working with French students and barely having any income in the summer, but I always had a few classes and I didn’t want to lose the students. I lived mainly out of AirBnBs but my residency was in the UK. I booked a 23 day cruise from Genoa to Brazil in December 2019. I decided to cancel this due to the pandemic and rented a house in the UK, for the first time in a decade. My wife is Swiss and we had to decide whether we wanted to continue being residents of the UK (which is really easy for self-employment) or take a risk in a pandemic. We decided to stay. I’m still in the UK now. The pandemic was good for me in some ways. I tripled my salary by going from a freelance language teacher to working 100% remotely for a tech company. My salary is also fixed as I’m employed. There are benefits to being here, but the news is just so depressing. Thailand has had 20 coups in the last century so I’m sure there’s the political stuff there too. I think while living in your home country you care a lot more about politics than when you are a guest in someone else’s. I do miss the time when I spent a month in a guesthouse in Pokhara and just swung on my hammock on the balcony, read books and ate out for every meal. I miss the street food (I would love to eat something that resembles a meal for less than £4-5 in the UK) and friendly and welcoming people in Thailand and all over Asia. A lot of British people seem to think the UK is a 3rd world county. It’s not. It’s a developed nation and there are many benefits to living here. However, salaries are relatively low compared to the cost of living. Prices are skyrocketing but salaries are staying the same. In 2 years of working in the UK, I think I reached a salary cap and can only really earn more if I manage a bunch of people or completely reskill/ go freelance. I want to move back to Asia, but I want to travel overland. I know that It’s difficult now as I don’t want to take my dogs through China and there are floods in Pakistan. I am going to wait 2 more years until my wife has permanent residency in the UK, then we’ll move back to Asia overland.
I think we all have a habit of thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. As a Californian, we pay almost the same as Europeans in state and federal tax but we have none of the benefits. And the EU actually protects the citizens - pensions, layoff protections, rent increases, chemicals allowed in food, etc My dream is retire in coastal town near Amalfi coast. But far away from American tourists lol

But I just got back from vacation in Singapore and I’m amazed with a level of living there! Also, Residency question is always bothering me, as even with Work Permit the rights of foreigners in Asia are very limited

La France et l'Italie sont très similaire, ce que je recherche avant tout aujourd'hui, c'est une qualité de vie loin de tout ce monde où les gens ne cherche qu'à se plaindre et continu à s'endetter pour du matériel dont ils ne savent plus quoi en faire. Continu ton aventure et peut être nos chemins se croiserons un jour, je part pour 7 semaines à bali, Vietnam et singapour à partir d'octobre, au plaisir.
Ciao Gabi, my experience, i'm an Indian who moved to the EU recently, i moved out of India as in my previous role I had limited learning and had to travel to Germany in order to learn and carry a part of my work related to vehicle testing. I moved out for better opportunities and gain some international working exposure. I last year i had another offer from Italy but it was delayed due to bureaucratic reasons and finally even though i would have loved living in Italy I decided not to go to Italy because of relatively low salary than other offers in Nothern Europe. What you said is unfortunately true about Italy, it's beautiful to travel but difficult to live, as i also see a lot of Italian colleagues who can't go back even if they want to due to low pay.

The U.S. is selling gas to Europe 4 times the rate in the U.S. , inflation has a lot to do with both republicans and democrats flushing the system with printed money after 2008 , in regards to Germany the welcoming of refugee ( they became refugees as a result of French sectarian policy in the levant minority against the majority to help them colonize the region this was unacceptable and the population revolted against the dictatorship ) and the arrival of refugees has strengthened nationalism and thus racism , add to that the Russian invasion has harmed the economy and stressed the population .

I live in Rome. I lived in Vietnam cheaper there, but you can’t compare because in Italy you pay for the quality of life and in Asia, no matter how cheap they are, they are still the third country in the world, although I love Asia. But the main question is job question. Not everyone can work remotely. so Italy is super.

completely unerstand you. Left my country too same reasons as you just added. Not all great abroad missing this and that but not as much as to say I would return to where I came from. Would have never managed to go self-employed, work remote with fantastic people, but hey, wherever you go you face hurdles. You have done all right and I love your channel. From the U.S. but I have been living in the Philippines for the last 5 years. I only visit the U.S. each year for about 3 weeks to see friends and family and then I can't wait to leave. I have no plans to ever move back to the U.S.

Thank you. Maybe I think I will make more videos in the future where I explain more things. For example, in terms of earning, I didn’t move to Thailand full time. I just moved my job online and became a digital nomad. I have been using Thailand as a base, but I never lived there full time

The cost of living in marine tourism provinces for Thai people is very expensive. If you guys want to move in If you are not a sea fanatic must see every day I recommend you to the north of Thailand Any day you want to see the sea, then go to travel because traveling in Thailand By plane domestically, it's very cheap. You'll save a lot of money.

ciao gabi, i was born in the usa. all my grandparents were born in italy and moved the usa.. i have been living in mexico for 30 years. first i came to work here, then ended up staying permanently. i do go back every year to visit my family, but only in the summer ! it is so much cheaper to live here and i dont deal with the cold weather or stress of living in the states anymore my father used to ask me... when are you coming back ? i told him...your parents left italy and i'm doing the same thing they did ! 😍
Hi Gabi😁l feel the same, before covid🦠I went to Thailand a lot. I love the people there, and the relaxed way of life. Sabai sabai✌️ l am from Ireland 🇮🇪☘️and here too, prices are crazy 😝 l don’t watch tv news, because it’s nearly always so negative. And the winters are long and depressing. On the flip side I have met many Thai people living in lreland, that are some what Happy here, no mosquitoes 🦟😂and not so hot as Thailand, better education for there kids, and financial benefits too. Better wages for them ,to send money back to the families in Thailand. Not so many motorbikes and pollution. It's very similar in the UK Gabi, there is no quality of life here now things are so expensive, fuel means you can no longer afford to run a car either, food is 4 times more expensive and gas heating will soon cost me £10,000 a year, so like you, after nearly 30 years of enduring this, I decided I've had enough I've quit my job, and I'm moving to Vietnam next week to teach.
I would love to hear a follow-up. Are you still in Vietnam? Do you still feel the same about the UK? Europe and the UK are in a terrible mess at the moment. But so is the USA. The whole world is experiencing the most terrible inflation rn and I find it hard to believe countries haven't got it more under control 2 years later.

It seems most of us left our home countries for the same reasons (except the current war). The next chapter starts when you want to extend your family. It'll raise billions of questions. But in the meantime, you've the best lifestyle one can imagine!

I was actually born in Italy (Friuli), first years were amazing but then somewhere around 2015 just started to going down (probably even before, but I was 22 that time so yeah…). How much does a person need a month to live in Thailand? I’m in Samui and it’s not the cheapest place in the world, but for me it’s heaven. Would like to spend here next 2 to 3 years.

I live in the USA, and what you said times 100X. When my mother dies(hopefully never), I will inherit 400K, and then retire in Thailand. The only place I would retire to in the USA is Monterey CA, but you have to be a multi millionaire to live there, and I stress the MULTI. Otherwise I would work to survive and die broke.

Europe is kind of bureaucratic hell. I am from neighbouring Slovenia and I like nature here the most. Just few kilometers and I am on the sea or in the Alps. But Italy is world tourism superpower due to the history and beautiful cities.

I live in the US. I am converting my job to online so I can travel. I have an issue with the food in the US. There are so many toxic ingredients in our food, hormones in meats, and chemicals on our produce. I plan to visit Thailand and the Philippines first. After that I plan to spend a few months in Italy to see how I like it. My goal is to apply for my Dual Citizenship for Italy through my family heritage. Of course, I will spend a few months there first. I will continue to do work remotely with companies in the US....but slow travel abroad and see if I want to live permanently somewhere.
I live in Heaven: Tel Aviv. The problem: lately it has been declared THE most expensive city in term of living... The vibe, the weather, the people, the Mediterranean sea & cuisine, the freedom and democracy... there is no cheaper place, I would like to raise my kids. BTW, the family of my Grandma are from Bene Lario in north of Italy. There are cheaper areas to live in Italy. Also, you have the EU citizenship, there are cheaper countries you could move to, e.g. Greece, there is no need to move to "the 3rd world"....(although I love Tai food, people are lovely, is an amazing place to visit as a tourist)
I've lived abroad but came back to Poland. People love to complain what i hate although it's many things to complain i am really doing well. In Poland it's kind of easy to escape high taxation with b2b contract, i made investment about flat to rent which is taxed 8.5% and I'm happy now near to family and friends just winters hit hard :)

You asked about others' experiences moving abroad. Here's mine. I grew up in Texas. Where you grow up, you don't really know the alternatives. So if your home life is good, you're pretty happy. It's only when you finally go someplace very different that you discover more of what's possible. Then you consider your home and compare. The mountains of Colorado were my next home, because that was WAY better than Texas (for me). But after more years than you probably have lived, I got an opportunity to move to Amsterdam. That was Awesome. It was Expensive too. But it was Awesome. Eventually, though, you kind of extract all the new/different things that are exciting. Then you're left with what the people who have always lived there have. So for me, that now means 3 months of nice weather, 3 months of so-so weather, 6 months of crap weather, and 12 months of expensive living. There's a lot more to appreciate about the Netherlands, but there are a lot of things I would change. Obviously coming from the mountains of Colorado to the flat lands of NL, I miss nature and mountains.
My few months in Thailand have been heaven. The people are open and friendly and kind (and positive). The weather is perhaps 4 months great, 3 months so-so, and 5 months not great depending on where you live. Chiang Mai during burning season is no bueno. Islands during heavy rain and still high temp periods are swamps. But if you are afforded the option of mobility, you can avoid some of the bad times in certain places.
And as you point out, it's that cost of living which is a key factor. When the cost of living is so low, some of us have the luxury of changing locations when the season is bad. Yes it's a privilege, so we must make an extra effort to be kind and generous when we visit places like Thailand. We absolutely must not be entitled a**holes who act as if privilege is a birthright.

I'm American, but my family is from Italy and my aunts and cousins are still there, but I have my cousin Eddie who was born here but wanted to travel and live in other places. He tried South Korea, Italy, Greece, and he finally settled in Bali for many of the reasons you mentioned. The cost of living, he was able to start his own yoga business and has people come from all over the world to take his classes. His studio is beautiful and right by the water. He said he will never move anywhere else. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

U also need to add access to healthcare facilities is easier in Asia then in Europe. But yes, as you said, Italy is always beautiful to visit as a tourist & enjoy Italian food! Molto Saporitto!

Everything closing down over covid, governments were unprepared. No excuse because somehow now they finding billions to do this, that or the next thing. The rich have somehow got richer and the poor and the middle class are much poorer.
I can understand governments demanding more in taxation and utilities for maybe a year after covid to make up their deficits, but I think they got greedy as the money poured in. Why stop all that good stuff.
Prices need to return to pre-covid levels. Rentals, utilities, food - but instead certain individuals and companies see what they have got away with recently - shrink-flation and substituting anything decent for cheap and nasty. Even fruit & veg doesn't taste the same - cheap methods of growing it - gmo to make things grow bigger and faster and heavy pesticide use.
Why do we put up with this? I take food items back all the time now. If everyone said no we are not going to accept this they would stop doing it. We have so much collective power but we are all struggling in our own way and it's just easier to put up with it. Things need to change.
I'm Thai but I studied in Milan before and I quite understand you because that time I don't know about salary and politic in Italy because I'm just an international student but I can feel everything there expensive (but coffee is good price for me) and I can see my italian friends always back their house for meal. the last 3 years, starting with cov*d, it got much much worse in Europe. I am from Germany and i lived in Thailand from 2015-2020. When i came back i couldnt trust my impressions. In Germany most things got worse, the media, the politics, also a major part of society are really nuts since 3 years. You see that with the current conflict in the ukraine. Our politicians are insane and the people have to pay everything. I will move to Thailand again in 2 weeks ;)

@@yharnamprince5035 well, i am a well known dj....so i don't know if that helps. well, i started a company (you need business visa, lawyer, lots of paper work) to get a work permit. I paid tax and everything legal. As Phangan is known for many good and great electronic Parties i got well paid. But thats not "normal". To go there in 2015 i saved around 15k EUR to have a solid start but i knew already what i wanna do in Thailand as i spent a lot of holidays there and made contacts, played already and so on. So maybe i am not a great example.

Hi Gabi, your sentiments on italy are similar to mine then add lack of social life especially if you don't live in the major cities. I relocated here from Kenya and now I have learnt to love and appreciate my country more as much as we have high corruptions back home but if im to compare with Italy, socially its more fun to live back home than here. In Italy people are more closed so creating friendships is hard, starting businesses is a nightmare but like you say, the quality of life is awesome in Europe, so that goes to say no place is 100%. Since moving to Italy I fell in love with the history and culture and I love travelling because Italy has so much to see and I too create videos while travelling and this helps me cope as well as beat the winter blues that's just arrived, ooh my... All in all life isn't easy anywhere but we must learn to cope and enjoy . Thanks Gabi, learning some editing skills from you as well.

The truth is that I decided to become a digital nomad, and Thailand was my first destination. In the later months I moved to other countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Mexico, Brazil, etc.

Hey Gabi! Just got back from work in bakery and saw THIS particular video. Very noble and overall 'it makes sense' reasons to say Ciao Italia. I'm experiencing similar issues at the moment. Personally was blessed enough to lived in Asia from 1994-2007. Since '07 lived in Poland (country I was born), then UK 2010-14 and now over 8years in Germany. To be perfectly honest, there is no a passing day I'm not thinking about Asia. I'm at this point, that I too will leave this damn rat freaking race rather sooner than later bro. Gabi is right on target on all points he mentioned . Yes here in New York the cost of living is high and people complain about everything . But that is nothing compared to what is going on in Europe .
Life unfortunately is getting worse and worse in every place of the world.
The cost of living and all the new things that are coming the last years in our lives make us not feeling so happy and with no worries. Every day we wake up and something new is dominating our thoughts because we don't know any more how to react and what we have to do to predict the next day. The last 2 and a half years has teach to us to take nothing for granted. People cant find the real meaning of happiness. We travel we try to do the best for us and ourselves but all these matters as you mentioned in your vlog is in front of us. Paying every bill in 3-4 times more than before unfortunately doesnt let us a lot of border.
I live in Frankfurt the last 3-4 years but honestly doesn't worth for nothing. Two people must work for being able such to pay all the cost and having to eat, not even to think for some more luxuries.
Of course i move asap back in my country, don't compare the food and the quality of life with nothing in the world 👌❤️🇬🇷💋
I completely agree with your three reasons for leaving Italy. The cost of RUclips Premium is a great example. Everything is just so expensive in Europe. As for my experience?
I spent 8 years outside my home country. I worked as a language teacher in a Chinese city, Cairo and Bangkok for almost a year each. At 9-10 months I always had a problem, either with my job or my VISA and had to leave, or it was easier to leave than try to solve problem.
Whenever I was between jobs I travelled for months at a time. It was very easy for me to find another language teaching job wherever I wanted to live next.
I ended up teaching English online for four years and gave up my extensive travel without work...mainly due to working with French students and barely having any income in the summer, but I always had a few classes and I didn’t want to lose the students. I lived mainly out of AirBnBs but my residency was in the UK.
I booked a 23 day cruise from Genoa to Brazil in December 2019. I decided to cancel this due to the pandemic and rented a house in the UK, for the first time in a decade. My wife is Swiss and we had to decide whether we wanted to continue being residents of the UK (which is really easy for self-employment) or take a risk in a pandemic. We decided to stay.
I’m still in the UK now. The pandemic was good for me in some ways. I tripled my salary by going from a freelance language teacher to working 100% remotely for a tech company. My salary is also fixed as I’m employed.
There are benefits to being here, but the news is just so depressing. Thailand has had 20 coups in the last century so I’m sure there’s the political stuff there too. I think while living in your home country you care a lot more about politics than when you are a guest in someone else’s.
I do miss the time when I spent a month in a guesthouse in Pokhara and just swung on my hammock on the balcony, read books and ate out for every meal. I miss the street food (I would love to eat something that resembles a meal for less than £4-5 in the UK) and friendly and welcoming people in Thailand and all over Asia.
A lot of British people seem to think the UK is a 3rd world county. It’s not. It’s a developed nation and there are many benefits to living here. However, salaries are relatively low compared to the cost of living. Prices are skyrocketing but salaries are staying the same.
In 2 years of working in the UK, I think I reached a salary cap and can only really earn more if I manage a bunch of people or completely reskill/ go freelance. I want to move back to Asia, but I want to travel overland. I know that It’s difficult now as I don’t want to take my dogs through China and there are floods in Pakistan. I am going to wait 2 more years until my wife has permanent residency in the UK, then we’ll move back to Asia overland.
I think we all have a habit of thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. As a Californian, we pay almost the same as Europeans in state and federal tax but we have none of the benefits. And the EU actually protects the citizens - pensions, layoff protections, rent increases, chemicals allowed in food, etc My dream is retire in coastal town near Amalfi coast. But far away from American tourists lol

Salut, gaby je suis entièrement de ton avis, j'habite en France et connais très bien l'Asie j'y vais 2 fois par ans, bientôt à la retraite dans environ 5 ans, je compte m'y installer, pour toute les raisons que tu cite. La France et l'Italie sont très similaire, ce que je recherche avant tout aujourd'hui, c'est une qualité de vie loin de tout ce monde où les gens ne cherche qu'à se plaindre et continu à s'endetter pour du matériel dont ils ne savent plus quoi en faire. Continu ton aventure et peut être nos chemins se croiserons un jour, je part pour 7 semaines à bali, Vietnam et singapour à partir d'octobre, au plaisir.
Ciao Gabi, my experience, i'm an Indian who moved to the EU recently, i moved out of India as in my previous role I had limited learning and had to travel to Germany in order to learn and carry a part of my work related to vehicle testing. I moved out for better opportunities and gain some international working exposure. I last year i had another offer from Italy but it was delayed due to bureaucratic reasons and finally even though i would have loved living in Italy I decided not to go to Italy because of relatively low salary than other offers in Nothern Europe.
What you said is unfortunately true about Italy, it's beautiful to travel but difficult to live, as i also see a lot of Italian colleagues who can't go back even if they want to due to low pay.

The U.S. is selling gas to Europe 4 times the rate in the U.S. , inflation has a lot to do with both republicans and democrats flushing the system with printed money after 2008 , in regards to Germany the welcoming of refugee ( they became refugees as a result of French sectarian policy in the levant minority against the majority to help them colonize the region this was unacceptable and the population revolted against the dictatorship ) and the arrival of refugees has strengthened nationalism and thus racism , add to that the Russian invasion has harmed the economy and stressed the population .

I lived in Vietnam cheaper there, but you can’t compare because in Italy you pay for the quality of life and in Asia, no matter how cheap they are, they are still the third country in the world, although I love Asia. But the main question is job question. Not everyone can work remotely. so Italy is super.

completely unerstand you. Left my country too same reasons as you just added. Not all great abroad missing this and that but not as much as to say I would return to where I came from. Would have never managed to go self-employed, work remote with fantastic people, but hey, wherever you go you face hurdles. You have done all right and I love your channel. Left Italy almost 30 years ago for the same reasons you just mentioned. Glad I took that decision because for friends and relatives things only got worse over the years... Spot on, be in Italy as a tourist only or in retirement 👍👍

From the U.S. but I have been living in the Philippines for the last 5 years. I only visit the U.S. each year for about 3 weeks to see friends and family and then I can't wait to leave. I have no plans to ever move back to the U.S.

I haven't found a country that I like more than mine but I spend part of my year in other places and that way I can get the best of both. Detachment is the secret to enjoy the best of every place

Very nice vlog Gabi, I feel the same 3 reasons to leave the Netherlands and have been very depressed of the way of living here, almost the same as Italy as you discribed. But now my question to you, how are you earning your money in Thailand and I have heard you need enough money on the bank and a good income from Europe to stay and live in Thailand. The cost of living in marine tourism provinces for Thai people is very expensive. If you guys want to move in If you are not a sea fanatic must see every day I recommend you to the north of Thailand Any day you want to see the sea, then go to travel because traveling in Thailand By plane domestically, it's very cheap. You'll save a lot of money.

ciao gabi, i was born in the usa. all my grandparents were born in italy and moved the usa.. i have been living in mexico for 30 years. first i came to work here, then ended up staying permanently. i do go back every year to visit my family, but only in the summer ! it is so much cheaper to live here and i dont deal with the cold weather or stress of living in the states anymore my father used to ask me... when are you coming back ? i told him...your parents left italy and i'm doing the same thing they did ! 😍

Hi Gabi😁l feel the same, before covid🦠I went to Thailand a lot. I love the people there, and the relaxed way of life. Sabai sabai✌️ l am from Ireland 🇮🇪☘️and here too, prices are crazy 😝 l don’t watch tv news, because it’s nearly always so negative. And the winters are long and depressing. On the flip side I have met many Thai people living in lreland, that are some what Happy here, no mosquitoes 🦟😂and not so hot as Thailand, better education for there kids, and financial benefits too. Better wages for them ,to send money back to the families in Thailand. Not so many motorbikes and pollution. Being single myself, I hope to get back to Thailand at Christmas 😊Take care, love the channel 🙏🏽👍✌️

It's very similar in the UK Gabi, there is no quality of life here now things are so expensive, fuel means you can no longer afford to run a car either, food is 4 times more expensive and gas heating will soon cost me £10,000 a year, so like you, after nearly 30 years of enduring this, I decided I've had enough I've quit my job, and I'm moving to Vietnam next week to teach.
I would love to hear a follow-up. Are you still in Vietnam? Do you still feel the same about the UK? Europe and the UK are in a terrible mess at the moment. But so is the USA. The whole world is experiencing the most terrible inflation rn and I find it hard to believe countries haven't got it more under control 2 years later.

I was actually born in Italy (Friuli), first years were amazing but then somewhere around 2015 just started to going down (probably even before, but I was 22 that time so yeah…). How much does a person need a month to live in Thailand? I’m in Samui and it’s not the cheapest place in the world, but for me it’s heaven. Would like to spend here next 2 to 3 years.

Thailand is a good choice. The Thai people are in general gentle and nice.
the thing is living in SE Asia you also need to set up business otherwise you cannot survive as well. either you set up a shop selling things which you like or own land in laos and grow plants for sell or own land in laos and make a boutique hotel for westerners to visit.
I live in the USA, and what you said times 100X. When my mother dies(hopefully never), I will inherit 400K, and then retire in Thailand. The only place I would retire to in the USA is Monterey CA, but you have to be a multi millionaire to live there, and I stress the MULTI. Otherwise I would work to survive and die broke.

Europe is kind of bureaucratic hell. I am from neighbouring Slovenia and I like nature here the most. Just few kilometers and I am on the sea or in the Alps. But Italy is world tourism superpower due to the history and beautiful cities.
Almost everything you talked about is why I left the USA and spend much of my time in Thailand or South East Asian countries.
Italy is so beautiful, if you live in the country side, it should be less expensive comparable to living in Bangkok?

Well, I understand your tiredness on Europe ('cause the thing is pretty much the same all over the continent, even eastern Europe is damaged by politics/economy) and i can tell you, tha I'm trying to share my life between Hungary and VN - if it works...my preliminary idea is to spend 7 month in H. (my native country) and 5 months in VN - there I have my girlfriend since 2011. Who knows maybe we can meet some day in South-east Asia (or Indochina)....by the way my favourite place in Italy is Liguria so far (Cinque Terre and Lerici there the Golfo di Poeti is marvellous as you know). I live in the US. I am converting my job to online so I can travel. I have an issue with the food in the US. There are so many toxic ingredients in our food, hormones in meats, and chemicals on our produce. I plan to visit Thailand and the Philippines first. After that I plan to spend a few months in Italy to see how I like it. My goal is to apply for my Dual Citizenship for Italy through my family heritage. Of course, I will spend a few months there first. I will continue to do work remotely with companies in the US....but slow travel abroad and see if I want to live permanently somewhere.

The vibe, the weather, the people, the Mediterranean sea & cuisine, the freedom and democracy... there is no cheaper place, I would like to raise my kids. BTW, the family of my Grandma are from Bene Lario in north of Italy.
There are cheaper areas to live in Italy. Also, you have the EU citizenship, there are cheaper countries you could move to, e.g. Greece, there is no need to move to "the 3rd world"....(although I love Tai food, people are lovely, is an amazing place to visit as a tourist)

I've lived abroad but came back to Poland. People love to complain what i hate although it's many things to complain i am really doing well. In Poland it's kind of easy to escape high taxation with b2b contract, i made investment about flat to rent which is taxed 8.5% and I'm happy now near to family and friends just winters hit hard :)
