    I had a lot of fun on one of these back in the day, used to ride long ass wheelies as far as the street would let me. It was a great bike, was a tractor in the woods and it loved hills.
    Just a good and dependable bike that could do everything well..

    Very nice, I sold my IT175 last year, as new with only 250 miles on it, achieved $4500.

    Had a 78 great woods bike would go up over and thru every thing and it's a 2 stroke. That one there is sweet wish Yamaha still made them.

    had 1 of these it 175,, 15 years ago and broke my ankle on it , ankles still sore somedays but i still ride ,now on a 90 rm 250 dressed as a slingshot ,its currently recieving new piston rings and frame paint , should be a video on my channel if you want a look at her

      Same here. Amazing how well them old ITs run too. I'm a fan of the newer 200cc KDXs but the IT was a totally different bike- felt dif and ran dif. I really wish Kawasaki and Yamaha would reintroduce the IT200 and KDX200. Great bikes. And it's my birthday Jan6-1982 as well. Would be cool to have a bike from that year

      @@ianrobinson525 Your not lying them 250s are ALOT of bike.... a 125 ain't enough lol. It's better to have to much and learn to use it properly than not have enough and just be s.o.l. lol. Your bike certainly isn't no slouch that 550 is making some serious hp and tourqe! You take care too brother. Good chat!

    The IT had higher compression, bigger carb, expansion chamber and other goodies to put it well above the DT in horsepower. What a gorgeous bike. They were way ahead of their time in so many ways, kind of like the XR75 (my first real bike in '73).

      They are great bikes. I use to race in enduros down south from the early 70's to early 80's and out of the 6 bikes I owned during that period this is the bike I had my highest finishes with. However while this was a better bike to race with my Bultaco 250 Alpina was my favorite bike to ride. Man was that a long time ago.

    Love the color scheme on the ITs. I just bought road legal it490 and it is a rare bike here in Finland, only 2 or 3 in whole country. I cant say that I wasn't inspired by this channel :D

    That really brings back the memories. Some of my earliest memories are of riding around with my dad on his IT. He always had an S&W N frame on his hip back then too.

    175 is a great displacement. Perhaps I’m a bit partial since my dad had a 175 Penton Jack Piner, but still. They should bring back the 175.

      Back in the 70's I had the following bikes. Wish I'd kept them.
      Honda 305 Scrambler Paid $310 used
      Hodaka 100B+ Paid $295 new
      Yamaha Mach 3 500 Paid $525 used
      Bultaco 125 Paid $125 used
      Bultaco 250 Alpina Paid $775 used
      Yamaha IT 175 Paid $825 new
      Husqvarna 400 Paid $675 used (while fast worst bike to ride, 30 minutes of riding your whole body was number from vibration)

    I bought one new when I was 16, my entire summer earnings about $1500. Yamaha had a bulletin on some power mods. I had the dealer do them, knife edged the ports and I think raised the exhaust port. One strong motor.

    I rode the crap out of the it's Had new 125. Heavy rocky new england trails. I rolled that 1,000 mile trip meter 13 times. 13,000 miles in nasty trails. Then also. Had a 400it. Then 200 then 465 then 490 Now only one i have is last year 175 in very very nice shape. With gold rims and front disk brake. Last ones made. Not many around. 40 years of riding it's.

    Traded my Tt500 for the IT465 when it came out. Wild machine at the time. But preferred my old thumper on the long, steep, rough hill climbs. It would lug down enough you could stop and take off again. But suspension on the IT was light years ahead. Great memories. Have a KTM 1090r now. 64 and riding since I was 14🙂

    I had a pristine 83 IT 490 only thing wrong was the exhaust had a crack in it.i loved it way better tjan the yz465 i had(yz465 was too brutal)suspension is really nice on them old bikes..IT490 in the woods oh man what a fun bike..i sold mine back to the guy i bought it from.he had nostalgtic reasons to want it back oh my what a fun bike though.

      The 80 yz465 i had was just a lil too much at times..5.60 rear tire i was only like 130lbs at that time.powerband on the side of the railroad tracks on the dirt road it wouldnt go any faster,the rear wheel just spun at a loss of traction.

      Similar but not the same, some parts are interchangeable, some aren’t, these ran on premix, and not oil injection like the blaster

    175 for the cc shocked me the power it had when I had 1 for a short time yet another I wish I hadn't sold front end very light and easy to lift on the power its got like rocking horse shit over here in uk 👍👍👍👍

    My buddy is looking to buy one of these same year and everything.. only problem is the top end needs rebuilt... is it even worth getting into that headache?

      Pistons can be bought from Australia or if you get lucky on eBay, or get a 81 piston repinned to the proper locations for the rings, yes the piston rings locations are very important, top ends a machine shop can bore or a engine place that specializes in dirtbike motors could resleve it to stock

    How do you set the clutch basket or kick start on one of these bikes? I have a 84 it175 an Every time I try to kick it over it binds with the clutch basket and does not spring back, but when I take the clutch basket off and turn it over by hand it works fine... I have a feeling I'm missing a washer? Or do you have to time it or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!! You guy are awesome! I love the videos keeps up the awesome work!

    Why is chain and exhaust on different side on 175

      Just how they were made, some say it was for the EU market because of ease of maintenance, the exhaust id say is on the “regular” side, left is what I see as weird

    Hey what do you guys use for exhaust paint, all of the high heat spray cans from the store are like a chalky grey not what the cap actually shows, and when you use the satin clear coat its just glossy, I tryed vht with thete satin clear and I just got gloss

      I’ve used VHT or DUPLI COLOR, those are gloss, they used the chalky stuff that just isn’t the best
