@Actual Rat kaiser wilhelm would relax the
situation like "and now after this favour to my old comrade, we d'like to hear my own anthem grrrr" the lyrics are about germany itself, the melody means the holy roman empire. i take it as a nice and strong sign to overcome the painfull "greater german question" between berlin and once equal player vienna. its a very complicated thing. has nothing to do with todays borders. many austrian territories are now in germany and salzburg in austria was clearly part of germany. mozarts bishop was "Primas Germaniae" and thats why mozart was total german. there was no "austria". even franz schubert in vienna identified himself as a german, and so joseph haydn did. there was only one real austrian: beethoven "i wanna be!" was his famous quote :-) In fact, frederick i of prussia should merry maria theresia to become the next emperor in vienna. founding a new family line replacing the in the male line in spain extinctioned habsburgs. but it turned out very different. one reason was: this marriage of hrr with prussias 80.000 professional soldiers would have caused immediate war against a uk/french coalition. Its all very complicated. and its a very nice sign of germany, to use this melody. its a sign to all former members of hrr, even hungary, czechia, slovakia, slovenia, poland, italy, ucraine, croatia, bosnia...it was their anthems melody, too.

    • @Marcel_Germann

@Actual Rat I suppose you mean Wilhelm II...he was actually the eldest grandson of Queen Victoria. And so George V of the United Kingdom was his cousin, so was the russian Tzar Nicholas II of Russia.
So this would actually be a family party if he would be there, because the Queen and he are related. Like most nobility was in Europe back then.

The Queen is a typical royal in that she has familial ties to just about any european monarchy. She is "german" because her great-great-grandfather (the husband of Queen Victoria) was born in Coburg (then german federation, now FRG) and of the house Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (which technically is her house name until today, but her great-grandfather changed it to Windsor because of anti-german sentiments during WWI).
So, one in sixteen of her great-great-grandparents were german - but if that qualifies for "being german" then the Queen is also Russian, because another one of her great-great-grandparents (the father of the Duke of Teck, grandfather of Mary of Teck and therefore great-grandfather of George VI.) was born in St. Petersburg and of the house of Württemberg. HIS mother in turn was of the house Nassau, the house that still rules the Netherlands, so she might be dutch, too.
But all things considered, she is 14/16 british...

@@francom1499 It really depends on the local rules and protocol. Some countries and territories would not allow the guest's flag to be in the first portion, that is at the far right. Some others, more respectful in my opinion, would do exactly that. And as we can see, this is the case of Germany.
