- Chapter 3 of this six-part Arrow Making Series shows my method for crafting arrow shafts from bamboo and river cane.
There are over 1,000 species of bamboo; and it was one of the most widespread arrow making materials of our hunter-gatherer ancestors.
Evidence of its historical (and current) application in archery can be found throughout Asia and the tropical islands of the East, central Africa, South and Central America, Mexico, the southeastern United States, and more.
It remains a superb and abundant DIY arrow material to this day. If you're an archer that lives in a region with cane or bamboo and haven't tried it for arrow making, you're missing out! It's "nature's carbon", as they say.
Give it a go! Hopefully this tutorial proves helpful in your endeavor.

Some traditions have been lost due to trauma, inability to find self. Its traditions like these that will make this world better. Regardless of your background. I am a proud a Ojibwe Native American. Traditions is all we have left. ~ Aho
This maybe the only video series on YT that I have checked for on the daily awaiting the next episode
Oh' I've been waiting for this. I can't thank you enough for these videos.
I love this series I'm excited for the next chapters
Wow the timing on this video is crazy. I just harvested a bunch of chokecherry suckers that the natives in my area (northern Montana) used to use for arrow shafts. I think the process will be fairly similar. Great video again as always brother, keep them coming!
Now i know what im doing over weekend
Great video, I would be really interested to hear more about how you match the bow with a set of arrows through tuning…. Is that a future series?
Super interesting video!
I did not expect you could make the nocks this way, with them being hollow.
How heavy a bow can these handle compared to a wooden arrow of the same diameter.
Could you come to the Netherlands for a workshop, please? :)
😄👍🤙
