I also seen something aut a sensor on trans could cause same issue with no go forward just reverse . Hopefully you just saved me a bunch of time in labor.
Thank you I love it when people put helpful videos out like this cuz I really hate when mechanics take people for a ride and your title is perfect for somebody to find it who needs it I don't need it fortunately but I did recently have a problem with a Ford and found out that Ford's are famous for just a little bracket getting loose and you can't shift it other than reverse think of how many people took their Ford's in for a transmission when all it was was putting Loctite on two screws and tightening it up stupid little bracket holding the shift cable on the steering column I want everyone to know that who owns a Ford SUVs and trucks they use the same bracket it happens to all the different models
Holy cow. Thanks so much for posting this! My hhr just did this the other day and I couldn't figure it out because there was no code. I figured it was a sensor. I'm going to go home and pull the pan today. Thanks again for posting this! If this is my problem, you saved me a lot of money.
Well that was it! My transmission has 4 tubes and one was cracked off. I decided not to try to weld it. It was pretty small. New one is 250.00. A heck of a lot better than 2000 for a new transmission install! THANKS AGAIN!!!

I've been searching and searching for more information on something like this because who wants to spend a lot of money on a new transmission. I have 2007 chevy malibu LT and it goes in drive but won't go in reverse! I also seen your video on how to check the transmission fluid so I'll be doing that as well before I do this.

May as well share my results as well. We removed the plug to check the fill amount. Saw comments about supply lines - this helped tons with the 07 Pontiac G5... ours was dangling on the line - curious if the folks that changed the oil and 'topped off' the fluids overfilled and caused it to get too much pressure and blow out. Crazy issue. Good time to change out the filter and gasket while there.
YOU DESCRIBED YOUR SITUATION EXACTLY AS I HAD, ONLY MY CAR IS A 2008 HHR, STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN , WOULDN'T GO FORWARD. TOWED IT HOME, REVERSE ONLY. RUNS FINE 175,000 MILES. I HAVE REBUILT HUNDREDS OF TRANSMISSIONS 50'S TO 2000. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM IN MY LIFE. I WILL PULL THE PAN AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON... YES/NO, THANKS FOR THE INFO.
Hey Bro... dude you made me crack up... spilled my coffee on my lap... But more importantly you saved my ass... did exactly what you suggested... found the broken line and brazed it myself... dude... million thanks . ever in so cal.. ill buy a beer
You da man! Hey Bro I appreciate you for taking the time to do that, saved me a lot of time and money! Especially when (in my opinion) that was the whole purpose behind the design of this part, to fail.
2007 Chevy colbalt. That was exactly the problem. Transmission has never had a problem before. To no forward at a stop light. Can't believe the auto shop said new transmission too. Your the man.
Brother that information was absolutely awesome fixed my car 83 bucks plus tranny fluid and filter kit I got my own shop this is the first time I've ran into this problem and I was like you it just did not sound right when I put it in Drive so I did what you said to do Googled it BAM there it was if you ever need any kind of help or can't figure something out let me know I might be able to help you I appreciate it again buddy

My 07 Impala is only going forward in manual 1 and 2 and it also moves in reverse, just not drive. I took a long drive low on trans fluid, could my forward band be broken? Forward sprag? Or this thing?
Excellent video very nicely explained . I have 2006 BMW 750 li This car has no transmission dipstick , It does not go forward too many problems mostly electronic . you are wright it is very hard to fill the fluid when the car is hot. The fill bolt is behind the exhaust . Very difficult Engineering. I had the valve body issue the bridge sleeve was worn or cracked which needed to be changed. at dealer they were asking 2800$. It cost me total withe oil pan and filter plus (Z F) transmission fluid 8 quarts each @ 49.97$ plus oil pan with filter by (Z F ) 357 $ total 795 $ I did this all by myself. it took me (5) hours because these German car are sealed with plastic covering Completely . with T-Torque screws. Then 21 screws on the oil pan. then 8 on valve body to change the bridge sealing sleeve. That is the biggest problem in the transmission. Now my car is running smooth like brand new shifting smoothly. your Video is a good one thanks for posting it.
This happened to me too. 2009 malibu 2.4. I brazed the tube and runs like new, and the best part is it only cost me the price of a trans filter and fluid.
Thank you so much besides you talking way to much about bs this indeed was the same problem I had and removing and installing the new Forward clutch supply line took about a hour and a half and cost about $ 150 after buying the fluid, filter, gasket and new line. Saved me from being suckered into buying a new trans like several shops had told me
i GOT MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT then a couple of months later(now) it wont drive forward but will drive in reverse....the car sat for 3 hours, waiting on a tow, then it drives forward!!! Cooling off was all that had changed! These transmission problems are crazy!! but its in the shop now(i dont trust driving it without finding out what was wrong) so will mention your solution and see if it works! ........(If I ever hear someone say women are crazy,I'll tell them not as crazy as a transmission...lol. )
Lol , it's possible if there's a slight crack in that supply line that just cooling off allowed the fluid to thicken a bit. But during the rebuild they would have taken those lines off and put them back in so that might have fatigued them. What problem were you having that they needed to rebuild it?
@@blakessite It wouldnt go forward and within minutes it wouldnt even go backwards..we tried it for about a hour off and on,it was night time and hadnt driven it but a few minutes.....so repair guy looked and said Transmission needed rebuilding. It did drive good after that for a couple of months.
Please let me no I'm actually waiting for weather to be a little better so I can pull the pan off and inspect those pipes if I dont here from you I will let you no ok thanks we keep in touch
This is the second time 7 months a go I ended up puting another on cause wen I pull the pan off a piece of the drive band was in ther so of the back I new tranny was shot but that time car would only move in reverse

To a transmission shop cuz it was just not shifting gears correctly and then they ended up just puttin new mounts? And then not even a month after that it just stopped on me and didnt move in drive? So i just parked it and havent messed with it since then
Thanks for posting this video now I'm wondering if my AT 1.6 ford has same solution. It won't go forward for about 10secs when i drive from park, but can immediately go backward.
Thank you 👍 Yeah I assume the primary goal is ease of assembly. But I do picture a bunch of you guys each throwing a hundred dollars bill in a pot and the one who makes the easiest thing the hardest wins. Lol 🤣
I’m having the same issue in my 08 impala I got reverse it won’t go forward in drive but. It will go forward in first Basically I’ve been driving this car like if its stick shift.lol thank for the info.
good info will check this car and see if similar its a 2011 chevy malibu not sure if it only going in reverse but there seem to be metal dust or sparkles as blk fluid was draining.
I like what you are saying about the transmission problem, here what I have it's a 09 malibu 2.7 liter it drives fine but I have no reverse ever now and the it will go in reverse but move really slow and mostly not at all any suggestions thanks cj
I got this problem too and going through some videos I started with cheapest option Wich is to replace out put sensor a 20 dollar part didn't work I just got 100bucks charged for less than 10 mins they probably did, and still didn't work the mechanic wanted to charge for diagnostic 150 and leave for days I told him it doesn't show any codes I had orallys scanner I was like nope going through this and other videos cleaned ground cable to fuse box , pushed fuses to see if they were lose I took plug off to see if extra fluid , and I think I got a little extra fluid that until now with 90dgrees here in Illinois mess up transmission, suddenly started working like normally, but freaking mechanic almost assuming the transmission was bad hell noooo watch out for and save 💰 guys

Hey thanks for the video. But my question is can your car go forward when put into 3rd 2nd or 1st gear. My car doesn’t go forward on D but does reverse and go forward in these 3 lowers gears. Any help?
that would have to be a different problem. Because when you put it in D it starts in 1st automatically. It almost sounds like a linkage issue. Also check for recalls their were some on the shift cable on certain vehicles
Hey I had the same issue and same thing it was broke. Replaced it and it still does same thing. Now I’m bout to drop the pan again and see if it broke again and I’d so what is causing it to break
After getting a jump, we put it in reverse, drove just fine, went to go put it in drive and it would hardly go. Eventually I made it to my house couple blocks up, left the car there, came back home and drove it around the block and up the highway and it works just fine! what do you think happened?? the check engine light was on took it to AutoZone and O'Reilly's in their computer couldn't read it. The next day the engine light was off. Idk any opinions of what may have happened or might be wrong ??
My 2009 suburban, 83,000 miles started acting up about two weeks ago, once in a while in drive would act like it went into neutral, then it would suddenly grab. Although I didn't really think it was low on fluid, added half quart of dextron VI. Yesterday while turning off a main road just a block from home, did the same, had to drive in reverse down the center divider, up a couple streets (backwards) and backed into my driveway. I pulled the pan, drained the oil, kind of brownish, not totally clear and not red. Because of the crossover exhaust pipe I couldn't totally remove the pan without undoing the exhaust flanges, pain in the butt. I pulled the filter, but don't see anything up there as you have described, so I think I'm out of luck there, hoping to see the plumbing with a crack. I will pump the rest of the fluid out, clean the pan, get a new filter and gasket, put it back together with new fluid and try it. I don't have a lot of hope this will fix it but I don't know what else to do. If it doesn't work, off to the transmission shop. Any suggestions at this time? Jim
Just to reply with the results. The model is 6l80e, unfortunately not the same model as Blake was showing, so once I removed the filter, I didn't see anything like what the photos illustrate. I drained the pan, installed a new filter, and refilled the system with Dextron VI, about six quarts. Unfortunately the unit was still dead. Taking the vehicle to a local transmission shop, the first thing they found bad was one of the plastic balls used as check valves in the valve body. The plastic deteriorates, loosing its shape and eventually no longer functions, the fluid just goes around it. Worse case, the ball breaks up and it travels through the system. The system was taken apart, because of the drop in pressures from the bad valve, many of the clutch disks were somewhat burned. The transmission was repaired, new clutch disks, the plastic assembly that has the solenoid valves (can't remember the name), the balls, and a new torque converter. It ran over $4K, 12,000 mile warranty. I asked if it was a common problem with these transmissions, yes, because GM chose to save some money and not use metal balls. Unfortunately, when they used to use metal balls, they just ended up wearing out the metal separator plate. It's a design flaw, I need to find of GM can do something about it as it was premature for the failure. When the shop sees this failure, the transmissions are usually 120 - 130 K miles.
My concern, not knowing the statistics on this problem, I am beginning to feel that this is a timebomb just waiting to happen. I know that GMC has many thousands of these transmissions out there with no problems, but why me, at as it turns out, less than 82,000 miles and I've been very careful with the vehicle. Does anybody know if I have any recourse with GMC, although the vehicle is out of warranty? Jim
Thanks, This was the exact same problem with my granddaughter's 2007 Malibu. Fixed it for under $200. New Band Lube Pipe, filter, gasket, and 8 qts fluid.
Wish this was my issue. I was driving on the highway, all the sudden something snapped then a bunch of clanking , pulled to the side of the road, stopped, checked everything under and around the car and tires. Didn’t see nothing crazy, tried to drive forward and car wouldn’t move. It would change all gears tho and could drive in reverse. Any help is appreciated.
I have a 07 Ford F150. The transmission oil is somewhat red but smells bad. It goes in reverse but won't go into drive until warmed up. It had been rebuilt and makes a whining noise when taking off. Other than that, no problems. Im thinking if i drain the fluid, it might help but they say if i do I'll lock it up. Any suggestions? Thanks
Did anyone’s engine light come on when the issue occurred, I’m having similar symptoms in my 2011 Chevy Cruze if so what codes did it read and how to fix the problem. Also what’s the exact name of the part most of you used to replace, thanks
im hoping this is my issue, all of a sudden my 07 malibu only goes in reverse now, thought it may be the fluid since i havent put some in since i bought it still nothing but it smells burnt when i do press on the gas, ill have to check it out tmr hopefully this my issue
I had this issue today for malibu 2010 2.4 where when I first start the car, shifting to Drive (automatic transmission) doesn't do anything. Pressing the gas only revs the engine, as if in neutral. Shifting down to low gears (1 and 2) has the same outcome. Reverse performs as expected, I can back up with no problem. Only after a few minutes of idling does the car slowly, almost grudgingly, pull away. is it the same issue
Would I need to replace the same thing? My car will go into reverse but will literally SKIP over drive no matter direction, and then drive will all of a sudden work about 10 minutes after
Just wondering if what u did here work after welding it, cuz u didnt make a video showing that the car continues to drive no problem. Please let me know
I have a 2007 Chevy Impala LS 3.5 L that ran perfectly to the gas station and when I went to pull out I hit the gas and thought that I was in neutral. It would work a little slipping a lot in 1st gear and I could get it to coast in 2nd also when I got the rpm's up enough on flat ground. I'm wondering if it's the torque converter or this supply line? If anyone has had this same problem and figured it out I would appreciate it if you would let me know. "Someone who knows what they're talking about"! Lol Great guy and video. Thanks for sharing and telling it how it really is.
Sorry to hear your having tranny problems. I have not had those exact conditions happen to me. So I don't know for sure what is causing that. At the risk of talking just to talk (LoL) I will throw out there that it may be possible the one of the lines is slightly cracked allowing enough fluid to keep the vehicle moving. But either way it is easy enough to check. Pull the pan remove the filter and pull the lines off for inspection. Obviously if you can see a crack it is A problem and weld or braze or replace them accordingly. Also if you air check them (by blocking one end and applying air to the other with soapy water on the lines looking for bubbles) you can tell for sure if they are leaking. Good luck!
We have had the usual snow problem maybe even worse here in Kentucky so the pinched line makes more sense. I appreciate the reply and hopefully that's the problem. Thanks!
I removed the pan and I could see a broken belt. I wasn't about to pay $1,600(buddy price) for it to be rebuilt with over 212,000 miles on it so I sold it to a used car lot. Thanks for the help!
I may have this same issue with my 09 Malibu already rebuilt trans once due to wave plate failure it makes me sick to think that I may have more trans problems. Exact same issue I am currently having! If this is my problem will there be any trans fluid leaking out of the pan? Thanks

Yep I've seen that before on a number of them thanks for the info appreciate it

@@justmythoughts2786 nah bro, went thru 2 cars since this comment lmao I ended up junking my impala
This guy is right ...God bless you...

i GOT MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT then a couple of months later(now) it wont drive forward but will drive in reverse....the car sat for 3 hours, waiting on a tow, then it drives forward!!!

Thanks was awesome watching this video got the same pro-lemon gonna try your fix will let you know what I find
Hope it helps
Thank you sir I will check on that
Hey I had the same issue and same thing it was broke.
I have a 1996 Toyota Celica doing the same thing. The oil does smells kind of burnt. But I don’t see any metal on the oil.
Could be a materials failure. Possibly the company used a cheap metal different than the design specifications?
That is possible although it seems like it's pretty stout
Cool , Happy it helped you out
My car goes good reverse but forward it raves a lot a goes slowly forward will that part be the problem???
I was wondering if it would be the same problem if my 09 Malibu Ls goes into all gears except reverse?
It sure could be. There's two tubes in a bundle so you'll have to pull the transmission pan and see if they're loose or cracked
@@blakessite Thank you Sir, I appreciate the feedback.
My 2006 impala doing this, same solution?
No engine light on mine. But when you say similar mine just stopped moving forward.
im hoping this is my issue, all of a sudden my 07 malibu only goes in reverse now, thought it may be the fluid since i havent put some in since i bought it still nothing but it smells burnt when i do press on the gas, ill have to check it out tmr hopefully this my issue
It is possible if the tube is just starting to crack I could see that happening
2006 malibu Marx thankyou . I fix it .tk God
Would I need to replace the same thing? My car will go into reverse but will literally SKIP over drive no matter direction, and then drive will all of a sudden work about 10 minutes after
Thanx brother real talk

My 09 Malibu is doing this changed the tcm now there saying valve body, do u think that I could have the same problem.
Thanks
No it leaks within the pan
