    Plan the work… then work the plan.
    I’ve had one of these Getaways since 05 or 06 I picked up from the Cleveland area. It’s a very fun machine.
    If you have an older pinball, you have to know you will spend a good amount of time working on it.
    Soldering and electronics troubleshooting skills are a must. Feels like I have fixed everything at least once… but it’s fun to learn how to keep them going.
    My playfield is pretty much original although I have added some mod toys like the key starter and a Donut Heaven diner… surely more to come.
    If I ever decide to swap the playfield this video will be very handy, so thanks!
    I just ❤ the smell of burning rosin in the morning!

    I restored a HS2 a few years ago and loved every minute, but l wasn't brave enough to do the playfield swap unlike you.(wish l did) Great job and she looks fantastic.

    Very nice. I’ve never tried to restore anything this new or complex. I may have to try it if I can find a good candidate.
    One thing you didn’t mention. Might try waxing the playfield before you begin reassembly. It’s a lot easier to get into the tight spots. Then you can spot wax again after it’s back together.

    Awesome project! Clearly a lot of work, but your restoration is an inspiration! And totally agree with taking lots of pictures I would be so lost without doing that

    Life lessons for your kids that are so much more important then just learning these practical skills. It is fun, a project takes time but is so rewarding and the process is great fun, working together, making mistakes is always allowed...etc etc. He probably does not see al this now but some day he will thank you for it.

    Thank you for going through and doing this. I need to do this for my BSD (both the cab and playfield). Great work!

    I guess you can skip my previous advice to use the wet method when you do the cabinet decal on your Led Zeppelin… you guys crushed it using the dry method!

      @thepinballroom  Год назад +1

      It's looking good! I'll have to look into the wet method tho to see, I'm not familiar with that method

    • @ironspider5972
      @ironspider5972 Год назад +1

      @@thepinballroom with the dry method you’ve essentially got one shot at getting it right-you peel the backing off and put it on. Of course the hinge method and lots of prep help it go right but it’s still basically a one-shot deal. With the wet method you are spraying down a light mist of water with a tiny bit of dish soap in the mix and then putting the decal on top of that. The dish soap allows you to reposition the decal until it’s exactly where you want it and then you use a squeegee to get out all the bubbles and moisture and the decal then adheres as the solution is forced out and dries up/evaporates. Stern uses the wet method and if I can find the video I’ll post a link to them using it.

    hi, good work, I should also change the decals on the body but are your new ones fluorescent (they light up with black or wood light) like the originals?

    Steve, question/request. What's the best way to buy a pinball machine. I've been looking around, but most of the places to buy are dealers selling new or "refurbished" pins for pretty steep prices. I'm looking for something entry level, but I'm not looking for Sterm Home editions which are a real disappointment IMHO and are still quite expensive.
    Thanks.

    • @thepinballroom
      @thepinballroom  Год назад

      Great question - it's a tough time right now due to all the price hikes that have happened the past couple of years especially - it depends a bit on where you live - I think the best way is to ask around and find your local pinball group in your area, there's probably a group close by that you could join and begin participating in small local tournaments and the like - then as you get to know folks you'll be able to find some of them selling pins for more reasonable prices hopefully
      Outside of that, it's tough as then you're on your own and competing against everyone else in Craigslist and FB marketplace etc and that's really hard to win at from my experience.
      You can also try pinside.com - they have a marketplace that covers the entire country - sometimes you can find good deals there
      The biggest thing honestly is patience - but joining / building some kind of network is the best long term strategy, imho

    Steve if you’re going to do a lower playfield for your next game have 2 flippers mini down there and make sure the inserts are not on top of the lower playfield and I hope if you make your next game will have pop bumpers.
