Yes! He was asking her to role play a hypothetical convo with his girlfriend. And Maggie got really affected by it and went red, even though she was outside in a strappy LBD in the Alaskan snow. Awesome ep.

Joel didn't ask her to pose as his girlfriend - the deal was orchestrated by Ed who wanted to conjure up a sense of closure for Joel whose romantic relationship just went south. So Joel didn't know anything about it when he was asked by Ed to play along and try to imagine he was sitting with his former girlfriend outside some New York bar in the spring when in reality, it was Maggie outside The Brick in the dead of winter and Holling was playing the waiter who served them ice cream :-)
