    Back then it was pretty common to have overprotective fathers in fiction. Most of the time the reason for their restrictive behaviour was just reduced to "that's what parents are like", which is a really shallow trope. But if you are in Michael's shoes, you totally get why he acts that way. If I was separated from my son for eight years and would land on a dangerous island with lotsa strangers right when I was finally about to spend some time with him, I would be terrified to lose him again. I love how this show subverted or deconstructed all sorts of character tropes before it became popular.

    I checked and the big dipper can be seen from the southern hemisphere, but it can only be seen in its entirety from north of the 23rd parallel. Parts of it can be seen to an increasingly lesser degree the further south you go. That's assuming it was in fact the big dipper. I couldn't really tell watching on my phone (sorry). But that may give you an idea of where the island is located.

      Michael is actually one of the purest people in the show before arriving to the island. Unlike most characters that had major moral flaws in the flashbacks, Michael was simply doing bad financially. Morally he was an A+ not being selfish or hurting anyone else. He even sacrificed what he most desired (Walt) for the opportunity that Walt could lead a happier life. He wasn't killing people or conning people or beating people up or cheating and doing drugs and drnking and extorting people or nothing. He was just a loving dad out of work. Out of everyone they've shown thus far Mike was a class act. He had waaaay more than one redeeming quality.

    You are using the viewer's knowledge of Locke to color Michael's reactions to Locke. Michael does not know of Locke's "connection" to the Island that appears to exist. he does not know that Locke was paralyzed or that he was face to face with the Monster. Why should Michael trust Walt with Locke? All he knows is that Locke tried to get on Michael's good side by giving him the credit for getting Vincent back, possibly for less than altruistic purposes.

    • @DRush76
      @DRush76 Год назад +2

      What connection to the island? Locke didn't know squat about that island, other than it cured his legs. That is the only reason he realized it was special. But so did Rose, whose cancer was removed by the island. I guess she had a "special connection" to the island as well. Jin became fertile, thanks to the island, and was able to conceive a child with Sun. Did he have a "special connection"? Although Ben became ill from the cancer on his spine, guess who dropped out of the sky not long after he had learned about his cancer? A spinal surgeon from Los Angeles.

    Reading many of the comments for this episode made me realize how bigoted a lot of LOST fans. Many of them had demanded that Michael behave like the perfect parent, despite his lack of experience in the role. And they saw nothing wrong with Locke teaching Walt how to use a dangerous weapon without Michael's permission. What Locke did was wrong. Yet because he was white and Michael was black, very few people had a problem with Locke's actions regarding Walt.

    I don't get y Shannon gets singled out all the time(cause she's attractive af?) Cause there's lots of ppl that don't help and some that usually actively hinder what ppl are trying to do.(sawyer) She's probably like that cause a) she is privileged. and b) no one believes in her. I'm not saying she's perfect or anything but there's definitely other ppl who are just as bad or worse than her. Like Boone isn't a bad guy but for most of the season he's either in the way or makes things worse by trying to "help". Idk if it's just me but I'd rather someone stay out of the way than make things worse by "helping"

      To this point in the show Sawyer has killed a bear saving 5 peoples' lives, tried to mercy kill someone no one else wanted to, physically saved Michael from Jin drowning him, discovered locations (such as the waterfall), located and confirmed dead people that were missing (waterfall lake) and been wrongfully tortured. He also chops most of the wood the camp uses which is confirmed in multiple times throughout the show. When danger enters the camp (like the boars) he is one of the people that everyone looks to. Shannon is human trash. Selfish entitled island Karen. When people go hunting and come back without Locke who Boone indicates may have died her only response is 'so they didn't bring the food?' Complete piece of shit character. Cast her perfect. Everyone i've ever seen act like that- looks like that.

      @@palinozog658 ok? Most of those examples are useless or a by product of him helping himself. Which he does a lot and which I'd argue he is just as, possibly even more selfish than she is. Only she's just entitled, he's an asshole who purposely and knowingly keeps stuff for himself when everyone else shares. Which actually seems pretty entitled coincidentally. N yea she's not very helpful like I stated in the previous comment but at least she's not working against the other survivors which sawyer does often enough. Like the whole asthma med plotline. But the whole point of my original comment was pointing out that despite being somewhat similar(both shitty ppl) most ppl(from my experience) give Shannon shit while acknowledging sawyer is a big asshole but still well liked(at least seems to be the majority of female opinions.. less so for male opinions but still more than makes sense to me). @@takeshikovacs7629 Sawyer and Shannon both have bad personalities, but Shannon is also a bad person. I'd say she is the most selfish person on the entire show- because in every episode she is in she does something selfish (every single one) and she is selfish both on and off the island, present and flashback. Sawyer is a jerk when he determines that an event has little or nothing to do with him, but in any situation that he can be of any use he doesn't need to be pushed he actually volunteers. i.e. they waste their own time with him over the inhaler cause he never had it, but when Boone is injured he gives up ALL the liquor and medicine right away cause he isnt a bad man just an a-hole.

His son goes to talk to someone and he starts screaming at him, blaming him, threating him with a knife and threatens to kill him, all unprovoked, and decides it's okay for him to do all of that because he's a father and being protective.
