Nope, you can't use sewing needles :( Needle felting needles have barbs in them that help tangle the wool every time you poke, eventually making the wool come together and form shapes!
There are sooo many different types of needles, but the one I use most is 38 triangle, which I find very efficient! There are different needles you can use for different steps in your project (starting, shaping, attaching, finishing), but if you're just starting out then I think a 38 triangle is fine. There are a couple of in-depth guides about felting needles, so if you want to learn more then definitely check out the one by felt alive or purplemoosefelting!

There are no Daiso stores around where I live so I just stock up on felting stuff whenever I go to Japan every summer 😂
