Frame generation is nice when the frame is still and predictible, as soon as the scene is unpredictible the the frame timing will drop creating micro stutter at times. If the base FPS is high enough it will make the easy parts smooth and the busy stuff creates micro stutters that isn't as noticeable. Its functional use is limited.
You shouldn't use fmf on games that drop below a smooth fps. If your game runs at 45-60fps natively, you'll not notice any stutters when fmf drops from 90fps to 60fps, or 75 to 45fps.
Just to note... when you turn quickly or produce any amount of substantial movement, FPS will drop by 100% back down to baseline (like in the Witcher shown here at which the 85FPS drops immediately down to 41FPS as soon as Whitson turns the camera), which is IMO where these additional frames are most needed, not when nothing is happening on the screen. This gives you a false impression of smooth performance. As soon as the game picks up, performance staggers below what would be achievable without AFMF. Again, IMO, removing the real benefit of AFMF entirely. You are better off keeping AFMF off, lowering the resolution, and gaming normally. FPS will stay far more consistent this way.
