The funny thing is that Sujy and I don't use spotify. I only use YT and FB, same with Sujy but she also watch TikTok. I always listen to music with image/video, because for some reason, just with the sound my adhd kick in. Well, this was a very interesting Top 100 list. We are more into Folk, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, and so on, not really rap and pop, but there are songs in that list that were very good. Anyways, what should we react to next? Veronica Maggio is the Swedish version of Taylor Swift. Production is always great and her songs are well written and relatable. 🙂

It's really remarkable how much you remember from the videos, Max. You remember names and titles even though they're in Swedish. I wasn't expecting you to remember people like Ted Gärdestad, who you saw for only a few seconds in the "swedish entries in eurovision" video.

Recommend you to search for Ted Gärdestads history. A really talented boy that Björn and Benny from ABBA supported very much. I love his music. He composed all his songs and his older brother Kenneth Gärdestad made a lot of the lyrics.

If you liked Molly Sandén and you know about Eurovision... Do you know the movie "Eurovision Song Contest: The story of Fire Saga".? Well, Molly Sandén is the stand in singer for lead actress Rachel McAdams. Check out her live performance of the song "Husavik" (live at Oscars). The song was nominated for an Oscar but didn't win. It's a beautiful performance direct from Iceland and the town that they used in the film. There's also a youtube video where you can see both the movie and the behind the scenes takes of Molly sining it. The video is called "Husavik (My Hometown) My Marianne - The real voice behind the song". Molly Sandén also calls herself My Marianne depending on what music she is doing.
It would make me SOOOO happy if they reacted to the whole movie ;O
The no 3 spot Vaggvisa means "Lullaby" in Swedish so I imagine parents just searching for the word Lullaby in Swedish and that's one of the top returns and that's why it gets played.
Plus kids can listen to the same thing over and over again without getting bored of it, that's why you'll see stuff like Baby Shark with over ten billion plays (more than there are people on Earth).

If you like Blues and Reggae, there was a Swede (Southern Sweden)that was fantastic. Per "Peps" Persson 1946-2021 He was a legend and brought both blues and reggae to Sweden. He sings in both Swedish and English and he was an active musician between 1960-2021. Unfortunately, he passed away far too early, due to illness. 🎸🎶🎷🪘🎵🥁🪕🎼

1:36 This song is from a TV show called "Så mycket bättre" ("So much better"). Where like 5-10 famous Swedish artists get together have dinner and cover each others songs. Newkid and Helen was there the same season - he was actually REALLY nervous re-making such a staple/famous song. But listen to it, he does it awesome.
3:47 This song is about the summer and is often played at schools at their end of terms for summer holiday. Ted was a singer/songwriter who sadly took his own life in 1997. And yes, he was in Eurovision.
4:35 This is also a cover from "Så mycket bättre". Original song is very famous by Lisa Nilsson.
Edit: 4:41 This is a very famous song and a very famous saying in Sweden - King of the bar. In Sweden you get paid salary once a month, so the weekend after payday is a big night out in bars/pubs/discos and whetever and you spend money like you are a king. This is a song about that and how you the week after have to go back to eating dry bread and noodles or something.
6:38 This is kind of from Eurovision. It is from Melodifestivalen - the Swedish qualifying for Eurovision (kind of like 24 songs compete and the winner is sent to Eurovision).
7:29 Håkan is one of the biggest Swedish artists. Check out "Håkan Hellström - Känn Ingen Sorg För Mig Göteborg (Live @ Ullevi Göteborg 7/6-2014)" where he perform this song live in his hometown Gothenburg (Göteborg). Even Coldplay covered a little bit of it when they were here: "Coldplay - Känn Ingen Sorg För Mig Göteborg (Live - Ullevi, Gothenburg)" 😊

I haven’t even heard half of these, but I love Veronica Maggio. Her voice sends shivers down my spine. And you’re right, she mainly sings in Swedish, although she once performed a song in Italian on a popular Swedish tv show. I believe her father is Italian.

I love how you remembered Ted Gärdestad from that short Eurovision clip. He has a special place in many Swedish peoples heart.
Haha, I don't blame you for not recognizing Per Gessle as the clip is so short and he's blond there. But yes, he's the Roxette guy and him and Marie was just such an iconic duo. Both of them had their own music beside Roxette too. Per in the band called Gyllene Tider that you saw in this video, but also as a solo artist and Marie as a solo artist. Outside of Roxette they mainly sing in Swedish.
The singer in the group "Stiftelsen" that was in this video, is also in another band called "Takida" if you want to check him out singing in English.
You deserve more views. I really like the research you do to connect artists with other videos you have done and so on. Keep up the good work.

The reggae scene in Sweden is not big but it has been around since at least the early 70's. There are some great artists and we have a few music festivals dedicated only to reggae music where you every year can see international reggae stars alongside Swedish reggae artists. And sometimes the Swedish artists hit the popular music charts here, which is why you see entries as #37 Kapten Röd on this list.

I don't know much about his music tbh but I love some of his songs and voice very much. He became famous in Sweden due to his break through on Swedish Idol 2004. (He came 2nd place) He's done music in both Swedish and English.
Melissa Horn is one of my favorite Swedish artists. Her voice is amazing, and so is the lyrics. I highly recommend you to check it out, hopefully you'll still see how poetic she is even if you translate them into English. When you know the lyrics, her fragile tone will hit you even harder.

I'm really surprised that she hasn't more songs on this list - there's a toplist in radio where they play music made by Swedish singers and groups - I think she more than once have had the top-3 spots at the same time. It's funny cus some of these songs are iconic and has added to the life of every Swede for years, and some were just huge in a very specific time or simply just huge within a certain subculture, and there is no way for you to know

Well, with the most music producers in the world (per capita) in the most multi-cultural country in the world. You get quite a diverse list. Apparently.
When it comes to Swedish hip hop there's only one artist that holds the crown, Roffe Ruff.
Ted Gärestad died to early. He suffered from schizophrenia and he ended his life. Very tragic 😞

Veronica only has one song in english that I know of called "20 questions". It was made from the perspective of Ingmar Bergman's(famous film director) partner. A great song that dares to point out this famous man's bad treatment of women.
Another swedish artist, Tove Lo, made a cover of "Jag kommer" called "I'm coming". And if your wondering, the double meaning is intended ;-)
You should check out Laleh. Unique girl, with her own style puttning together the swedish lyrics very clever and thoughtfull.

It should be mentioned that alot of the rap songs on Swedish spotify is accused of being used for money laundering, aka buying cheap views from third world countries and get part of it back from Spotify as legit money. Considering random rap songs I have never heard is competing with timless classics and recent superhits, I tend to think it's true.

So this is the most played SWEDISH SONGS WITH SWEDISH LYRICS on Spotify. That's a completely different thing altogether. Just want to point that out, since it as such excludes most swedish music played on Spotify. This is why rock and metal is completely abscent from it (which is a huge musical market nationally and internationally. Take In Flames Only for the Weak which has over 95 million plays on Spotify for example) as well as electronic and dance music. For example Dr Albans It's my Life has 187 million plays, Ace of Base All That She Wants has 372 million plays, Roxette It Must have Been Love has 550 million plays, Abbas Dancing Queen has over 1 billion plays and Avicii (which you even mentioned) his Wake Me Up has over 2 billion plays.
So, just wanted to put that into perspective.

as a swede i am really surprised to see that so many of the top 100 songs are hip hop songs! but considering i don’t listen to hip hop it’s not strange that I haven’t heard them before… i’m more into indie pop, a huge fan of håkan hellström who is on this list a couple of times (the clip with the guy and girl at 13:06 is from a lovely movie that was based on his songs), and i was over the moon when him and veronica maggio did a song collaboration.
a fun fact is that veronica maggio and oskar linnros who is also in this video used to be in a relationship, and allegedly the song “från och med du” is about veronica (he has denied it, but she said in an interview that she is sure it is), and as they both released albums shortly after the breakup it was also rumoured that their albums were about the other person (very taylor swift).

I would say the best songs from Swedish artists are written in English. Also there are a lot of big Swedish songwriters and producers making songs for the biggest artist in the world. Check out Max Martin as an example.

Top 10 are all pretty old popsongs, Around 10years or more. Ted Gärdestad and Gyllene Tider is even ålder than That Their songs are true Swedish Classics under ABBA. Well.. .Any song with Einar rapping or featured will be o nthe top list, since well..... Swedish rappers does it backwards these days... isntead of using music as a way of getting OUT of the gang life, they use rap to HAVE a gang... and Einar did end up getting shot not that long ago..... and of course people then listen more to his music....

No one can take this "top list" seriously - these are by far not the greatest Swedish top 100 songs. It might be the most streamed ones on Spotify, but that is not the same thing. Not a single song from ABBA or Roxette just to mention a few artists. Speaking for myself (70 years old, having lived in Sweden all my life), I'd say that 75 % av the artists I've never heard of - let alone the songs. So it's definitely not a list that represents the greatest songs from Sweden - just so you'll know.

Also, looks like the list is restricted to Swedish artists, not Swedish songwriters and producers where I'm sure you know Sweden is one of the most prominent countries in the world with Denniz Pop, Max Martin and the whole Cheiron team of amazing songwriters
