Fantastic review. I loved the structure and the rational arguments. Specifically appreciated the mic sound test comparison with three different devices. Small suggestion for that matter would be to test mic in windy conditions which probably apply to many of the sport use cases such as running or cycling. Thanks a lot for your video
Thanks for the review! After watching your previous reviews on the aeropex pro I ordered a pair and have loved them ever since. Indeed my wife loved them too so I bought her a pair. She has trouble finding in-ear headphones that sit comfortably and secure in her ears, this solved that problem for her. The only issue we've had is during MS Team calls when paired to the PC, consistently drops out. We brought up the problem with aftershokz and they sent out another pair which also didn't work. However they apologised for the problem, said there was nothing they could do about it at the moment, but also said we could keep the extra pair! What a top company 👍

I have had the old Aftershokz Trekz Titanium a long time until they broke recently. They were not bad at all but my brand new Openrun Pro are a big step up both in sound and in comfort. I haven't tried the standard Openrun but the Pro's are definately good value.
I have used the Aeropex's in an office environment for the past 3 years, listening to music/podcasts all day, whilst being able to interact with co-workers. The battery life is still more than enough to get through a workday. A great product, one of my best every purchases.
Thanks for your review it helped. Just got a set today and will be taking my under maiden voyage tomorrow. Very impressed around the house and in the stores so far. The bicycle will be the big test tomorrow.
Thanks for your review! I got the Aeropex after seeing your review on them, and I've run hundreds of miles with them and love them to bits! Sound quality is more than good enough for what I need while running or working out, and I never have to worry about them falling out of my ears or getting damaged by a downpour like with other headphones. I've never had any connection issues whatsoever, even over the course of a 2 hour+ run. For what it's worth, I've never experienced any discomfort with the vibrations, except on the rare ocassions where I have to turn up the volume REALLY loud if there's lots of traffic noise, which is probably not generally a good idea anyway. It's not worth it for me to upgrade to these new ones, but I almost wish it was because I want to make sure they keep making improvements for when mine do eventually bite the dust! I wonder if they'll come out with a mini version of these. I got the Aeropex mini and I'm glad I did, even though I don't have a particularly small head. The regular size just seemed way too big.
That's great! My Aeropex are still going strong too. I didn't know they did a "mini" version. Don't think they do any more in any of their range. Yes if you have the Aeropex and are happy with them no real reason to upgrade!
i have had the aftershokz Aeropex for a couple of years now and like most i love them, i have them on at work for ave 6 hrs per day so they get a lot of use about a year in i started to notice a rattling noise from inside one of the speakers and a few months later the same happened to the other side, i contacted the company and they sent me a new set ..... after i had to destroy and show proof of that before the new ones were sent but they were prompt and i was happy. after looking into the problem i found i wasnt the only one that this rattling of the inside mechanics of the speakers has happened to so im interested if any of your followers has had the same issue. thanks for your content
Bought a pair for myself, and some OpenRun for my brother's birthday. I spend the day with some headphones around my ears, or ear buds, and I do about an hour of Team meetings daily, hoping they will be good enough to do the job. Although I listen at low volume, I am concerned about the long term effect. My brother also wants to move away from In-ear when running, but I think he'll be happier with the OpenRun. Anyway, I've tried some openmove, and although the sound isn't super great, it's not bad really. If you do podcasts or listen to audio books or the radio, they'll do the job.
@@TheTechnologyMan this is disappointing - I want to use these for cycling but am concerned about the volume issue. Combined with the IPX drop, that’s a real bummer. Thanks for the review though, pretty thorough! I’m wondering what the Mike sounds like on the bike as well! Looking forward to the long term review.
Hi Gidon, thanks another very comprehensive video. At aroung 6minutes mark you talk about microphone noise cancelling device, and openrun pro vs airpod pro. However i am not sure if you said airpods pro have the best quality mic or the openrun pro has best mic quality. I have the aeropex, and alot of people whom I on a call with while using my areopex still complain about it is being echoey. Is the mic on the openrun pro and new shockz product with no head band better than my aeropex?
Fantastic video - having spent the last hour watching reviews from various sources trying to decide which is best for cycling. Your review is by far the most in-depth and fair and now I can order and get on with my afternoon. Having tried a friend’s Aeropexs whilst cycling, I was wondering how the Pros compare and I’m definitely going to spend the extra money for the slightly better sound quality and also use them around the house for calls too. Keep up the amazing work!
sticking to aeropex. +Love the button functionality, - No Likey Drop in IPX rating. Not substantial enough a change to warrant a move from aeropex to openrun pro. 4me personally
Nice review Gidon, great to have a comparison rather than most of the other videos which are just plugging the newest version as better. It's a real trade-off in specs between the OpenrunPro and Openrun with each having benefits. For me the dream would be louder and better sound + IP67. How much better is the sound when cycling do you think? and would the Pros survive a bit more water than sweat? Keep up the good work👍
Thanks! I'd pretty much written off the Aeropex (which are the same for sound as the OpenRun) for cycling. But the OpenRun Pro are better. I can hear most music now over wind and traffic noise. I'd still like to use them for a bit longer to make a final decision on them for cycling. And as I said in the review I'd really like to be able to use them for podcasts.
Thanks for the review. I'm leaning towards the aeropex or open run because I run in the rain a bit here in Sydney. Do you think for mostly podcasts or audiobooks it's fine?
The Pro are fine in rain - it's rained on most of the runs I've used them on so far! Harder to say longer term, but my AirPods Pro which are are only IPX4 (the OpenRun Pro are IP55) have lasted for over two years and I wear them all the time for wet walks and sometime runs FWIW.
Hello Sir, Thanks for the wonderful review. It really helped. But I heard that open pro has some vibration. Is it true? And is it found only with louder noise with bass? Could you please advise on it?
Great glad the video helped! With all the bone conduction headphones I've tested you'll feel the vibrations - it's how they work. It's only really noticeable at high volumes and even then it's less noticeable when running or cycling with the constant movement.
I bought some Openrun. The sound is comparable to good very cheap earphones... Which is pretty good, compared to what these sort of headphones are. I bought them for my work. I work in a noisy environment and I want to keep my hearing, so I wear earplugs. These types of headphones are a great solution to being able to listen to music while working. While the ears are unplugged, the bass is not very existant, but the sound is crisp and clear, but sounding lightly distant. With earplugs in, the bass becomes present, but the audio also becomes sort of muffled, unless you lightly press the headphones on the sides of your head then the audio becomes clear and crisp with the bass slightly present. The bass is NOT gonna bring you to another world, but it is enough to be a consideration, when they are are one the upper scale of the bass zone. The musics I've tested have been Sabaton, Tone Box (this one is a real bass-tester) and Hard Bass School (with hardbass, don't expect to get the bass part. You'll get the brute sounds, but not the bass part of them). I've only had them for a couple hours. So, in all, if your workplace is similar to mine (and you can wear earphones) get a pair (either more expensive or cheaper, your choice in the end).
Voice mode makes the trebles higher while dimming everything else. It makes musics less "full". I also noticed something that happens in both modes: when it's only voices and those voice audio quality are very compressed/degraded or already boosted by default, it makes the audio elements vibrate way too hard. I listen to my music at half volume (volume from my phone) and if I listen to podcasts where the voice is boosted, it still vibrates too much. Thankfully, I don't listen to stuff like that, so in the long run, it doesn't bother me. For the music I listen, the sound is pretty good. I still stand to what I said about about the sound quality. They sound low very good quality cheap earphones. The sound is clear and good. I get pretty good balance with metal and electronic musics. Though, again, the bass is lacking, but it's no big deal. Considering what I use them for, it's a great purchase. I also tested it on some other music bands. Belphegor (black metal) sounds pretty good. Though, I do get a certain issue with my pair. I haven't checked online about it, but at around hour intervals, I get connection bufferings... It's short, but notable.
How are the OpenRun Pros going in terms of water resistance? Sweat and rain resistance is my main concern, and the lower IPX rating bothers me. Sweat has killed every other sports headphones I've used for cycling ... apart from Shokz OpenRuns. Are the Pros worth the gamble? Cheers
I've had me original Aeropex for years and have used them for hundreds of sweaty runs and they've held up fine! The Shokz headphones seem pretty well sealed.
@@TheTechnologyMan I have the same feeling about my Aeropex. My concern is about the real-world water resistance of the new Openrun Pro models. How much of a difference does the lower IPX rating (IPX55 vs IPX67) make in practice? Are they really more vulnerable to rain and sweat? How are your Openrun Pros working out? Any issues with rain or sweat ingress?
I am seriously considering the Aeropex/OpenRun for use while cycling. Only thing that concerns me is the effect of wind noise. The other day was cycling into a medium strong headwind and is was like sticking you head out the car window at about 40-to-50km/h. Any experience with the Aeropex or OpenRun in such conditions?
Yes I try and cover this in my reviews - you can't hear them well at all cycling faster or with wind noise. Ok for background music but not much more. Commuting to work along a cycle track they'd probably be ok.
Does the multi pairing work at the same time from both phones for Open Run Pro? I have the Aeropex. But it didn't work if the two mobile phones screen are open. I need to turn off the screen of one phone to hear the sounds playing from my other phone. But it is connect at the same time, I'll just need to turn off the screen on the other phone to work properly. Not like in my Plantronics Voyager both phone's Bluetooth are working same time even the two phone are open screen.
Just double checked on my iPhone / iPad combo and worked fine. You need to pause audio playback on first device, and then start on other device. But both screens on.
I just ordered the open run pro version. I would like to know if it can be connected to Apple Watch directly and listen to the music stored on the Apple Watch?
@@TheTechnologyMan hi I want to know more before I purchase it. Can I save some songs into this device shokz openrun pro via apps without carrying my phone? Does it still give a periodic beeping sound when it wanders out of range of a multipoint-paired device? I love my Aeropex, but it's annoying when I'm listening to something on my phone, have it paired to both my phone and iPad and then leave the iPad to start a run. In such a case the Aeropex would periodically beeps because it is out of range of my iPad. The only way to avoid it is to only turn the Aeropex on after it's out of range of the iPad, or disconnect it from the iPad manually beforehand. If the Openrun Pro managed to fix this problem, then it's enough of a reason for me to upgrade.
Great question and something I didn't have time to mention in the review. Yes they no longer do that annoying continuous beeping. You do hear a single beep when it loses connection to the second paired device but that's it. And then when you're back in range you'll hear a "connected" audio prompt as it re-connects to the second paired device.
