This was definitely a great tutorial. Ghost Rider was my main for a long time but recently I dropped him. I learned a lot with your video, hopefully in the future I will pick him up again.
I liked this tutorial. i learned a couple of small things that i never knew about GR. He's been my favorite point character no matter how uphill my matches have been.
Excellent choice of music, its from Ghostrider the game. Ghostrider is one of my favourite heroes of all time and I'm glad I could actually learn something from this video.
Finally! I was waiting for somebody to make a guide for Ghost Rider. I'll say that you forgot to say that Ghost Rider's air Heavy attack works great against characters that spent their time in a top corner of the screen using projectile attacks such as Doom and MODOK. Another thing is that Ghost Rider's snapback is the best in the game. Cause you can use it in long distance and get a free mix up, and it connects when using Heartless Spire OTG after a grab. BTW Nice video.
The key to winning with Ghost Rider is to keep hitting the assists with his standing H. Honestly unless you're just getting pushed back repeatedly (change your timing and/or go low) you should have them at the perfect 3/4 distance and continually pressuring them with H, Jump+S, Down+H, and Judgment Strike. Most assists (even doom missiles) should be nullified on startup. Maintaining the proper distance is paramount with GR.
One of Ghostrider's best duos are w/ Dr. Strange. Strange's Eye of Agamato allows for a corner lock-down combo as well as an e-z Penance Stare setup. Once you do Penance Stare they go into a crumbled state which you can then go into a flames or palm loop by hard tagging Strange back in.
Excellent video! As a Ghost Rider mainer and fan, I'm really happy to finally see someone show what he's really capable of (and teach me a few new tricks along the way). :D
nice guide! j.H should get a mention. it keeps flyers on the ground. the hitbox is so huge you can do it from below flying screen. great for sents, dooms, dmc's trying to air chip or setup an approach. great w drones or hidden missles too (what isn't). plus they eat about 3 of them before they respect it, and that damage adds up. plus ending ground blocktrings with his chain projectile is so great for chip damage and frame traps especially with projectile assists.
awesome video, I dont see much tutorials on ghost rider. I use rider as anchor for the level 3 x factor and fake the high and low for a one combo kill.
If you have no DHC and you're not in the corner, then Maelstrom (and mash for dear life). The rest is entirely DHC dependent. Not in the corner, I still Maelstrom because Chaotic Flame burns them off the ground bounce. In the corner, SoV H so the wallbounce puts them in perfect position for a Chaotic Flame back across the screen. Experimenting with SoV+S in the corner into Stalking Flare then meteoring them back down a la Zak Bennet with Firebrand/Dorm. Not sure if it works yet.
There are things I have forgotten about which didn't occur to me at the time of making this video which is why i'll be making a part 2. A few things to note: Rider's jumping h wouldn't trade with the shots, his chain normals go through projectiles too. The chain would still hit doom, problem is (theoretically) after he's hit, he can go right back into flight mode and continue. I don't use j.h as much as i should and should probably experiment more with this
Spirit of Vengeance gets you in (preferably when they're calling doom) and then DHC into someone who can wreck them. Dormammu comes to mind. That's just about my only play when she goes Astral.
I've been thinking the same thing. GR needs a team that can counter the aerial movement and disable the assists like Doom's Hidden Missiles. I'm thinking Magneto's beam assist but you would have to time it just right to where to hits Doom before any missiles get airborne.
Spirit of Vengeance doesn't work, but canceling Hellfire Maelstrom a little early in the corner into Stalking Flare does! 1.2 million damage with 2 meters (it builds one during the combo) combo into corner, OTG hellfire, Hellfire Maelstrom, DHC early into stalking flare, qcb+M, qcb+M, qcb+H, Flame Carpet+GR assist, Dark matter, Dark Hole, Chaotic Flame (and if you have more meter you could DHC back into GR but you probably don't need to).
Heartless Spire isn't solely for defense, as it's really good for keeping the opponent in blockstun, as well as making sure people who forward tech are forced into blockstun, so none of those wakeup shenanigans, or that they take a little bit of damage. Also pretty sure the cr.H can be canceled into pillar, making it safe. Or it can cancel into the chain lasers. Good stuff you got going here, love GR. :L
He was me, and I've tried them all. I'm not saying for absolute certain because I didn't test it for long but I was unable to get enough time juggling on the Stalking Flare from any Spirit of Vengeance option. The only way I was able to do it was by canceling Hellfire Maelstrom when they're at the apex before he slams them down.
He has the best back wave dash in the whole game, I don't know if it's a glitch or what, but you can cancel his back+R2 (or back+2punch) with another back+R2, you can travel back the whole screen in a sec. Also, you can't plink dash, but he has a pretty good wave dash (dash with R2, cancel with down, then another dash, cancel with down etc...) I know his projectile can collide with one or 2 soul fists... but you can't do anything about the ones coming from your back... MorriDoom is a pain...
11:00 Vergil is also really for punishing just after an Advancing guard. when you get hit by an heavy attack, just press R2 then either Heavy or Launcher ;)
Depends on distance from the opponent and how long the combo has been. I personally like the SOV better as it's easier to DHC from in the corner. As i said in the video, hellfire adds more hits so it'll be easier for the opponent to fall out. With SOV they won't fall out.
Thanks everyone for all of the positive feedback! For those who have pointed out the things i've missed, don't worry because there will be a part 2. If you would like to send me footage of you performing the techniques you tell me about for rider please go ahead. Feel free to e-mail the footage at ghosthawkgames@yahoo.com
I see that you didn't cover plink dash in the movement section. It may not make him a wolverine class character, but it definitely helps him much more on the ground than wavedashing. Sure, not as easy to do consistently, but undeniably better.
Nice one. Thanks for trying to assist me. I finally made my uncle shut up since Judgement Strike stops Morrigans damn soulfists. I tried to do the combos you did, not all but enough to win several times. Vengeance is mine.... pun fully intended :-)
good video, but just a suggestion/question, cant ghost rider use his j.h to help control the air like you said doom is a bad match up but lets say he's doing super jump photon shot flight photon shot photon shot repeat i assume this is why you said the match up is bad considering thats dooms main plan but cant ghost rider do super jump j.h and trade with photon shots? doom cant confirm off hit since its a trade and if the player has discipline it will get doom to rush you down
I can show you more. lol. I have a jump loop with GR, and he can kara-cancel his command (QCB) grabs on the ground, including his level 3. Also, you can convert off ground / air grabs with proper spacing and his Spire into a full combo. And he has a better optimized combo. H - H -> Chain of Rebuttal - dash -> H - H - S - slight delay - j.M - S - Spirit of Vengeance or OTG -> Maelstrom. And plenty more... If only I had a capture card, I'd show you some REAL Ghost Rider tech. :)
I currently have Iron Fist on point along with Ghost Rider second and Dr. Strange third, should i take out Iron Fist for someone else on point? (EX: Wolverine.)
Thank you for the video. I learned alot. My uncle uses Vergil all the time along with Morrigan and thinks he's the shit (Even though he plays only me) I am practicing with Ghost Rider. I wish Vengeance was in the game though. Thanks again. BTW how can I block or counter Morrigan's drill kick?
With Ghost Rider you don't really have any tools to counter it besides his Heartless spire when you see her fly towards you or Chain of Punishment. And Vengeance is in the game....in spirit.....of vengeance. I'll be here all night.
I honestly believe ghost rider has an "okay" amount of options against morrigan. Problem is, this is all in theory as I don't face a lot of morrigan players.
and in the movement section, you forgot to tell that his backdash is auto cancelable by his backdash. You can hold back and spam R2 to move back insanely fast. And having a bad match up against Zero, Doom, Magneto, Vergil, Phoenix and Morrigan explains why we never see the guy in tournaments... that's so sad

I appreciate the reply. Just a couple other questions that I forgot:-Is Ghost Rider a beginner character or more advanced?-Is Ghost Rider better on point or as a battery?
-Definitely beginner. Ghost Rider is pure footsies. There are no combo loops you have to learn, no true mixups, he's pretty straightforward. There are better options for starting characters however. Even Ryu would be a better character to pick up when learning the game. Rider lacks options, which puts him below other beginner characters, so he'll be easy to use but hard to win with without assists. -Point. Honestly the only use for him as a battery that I've been using more lately is Crossover counter Chain of rebuttal, but even with that said, he's back on point. Although Rider can build meter fast with the right assists he also burns that meter just as fast, and like I said before, he's got limited options so without assists it's tough to make things happen.
There are A LOT of better middles than rider. But if you really want to use him on that team then yeah i'd keep rider 2nd. Wolverine is better on point and get can a lot of mixups/extensions from rider.
DHC is delayed hyper combo and is a hyper combo inputted after a hyper combo. Ex. Ghost Rider Maelstrom ---> Dantes million dollars. OTG is off the ground and are abilities that hit opponents when they are knocked onto the ground. QCB is quarter circle back and is the motion of your stick
Ok. Rate:2/5 Comment: I use ghost rider. And i can dominate Frank West. And cmon man what solo combos are these? extended it. If you don't know where. Well... No comment. But will say this the max I've done is 60hit combo solo no assist 72 with assist. 85 with x factor. All in all good vid. Subscribe. Fine i will.
It's nice to see one of the most neglected characters get such thorough love. Keep up the great work, man and thank you.
That beginning was too damn clever.

WaddleDee105 thank you, no problem!
Very nice video. Glad to see old ghostie finally getting some love
Too bad no tourneys with this hot baby yet. I would LOVE to see it. And no, please no ineffective chain spams.
I always wanted to play ghost rider, one of the reasons why i got the game but he was hard to play against othrs but this made it possible great vid!
Thanks for the hard work. Great breakdown
Wow, I legitimately learned a lot here. Thanks for the video.

liked and subbed Nice guide now i can level up my Ghost rider thanks man!
Wow. VERY nice work. Some cool tricks. Might put Ghost Rider on a side team 'cause of this vid. Again, great work!
Thanks! All of that will be covered in part 2
Can't wait till part 2 nice stuff!

Oh and I had a typo obviously, with dorm you want to qcb+L, qcb+M, qcb+H. You want the meteors to pull the bad guy back down.
Will be covered in part 2
Spirit of Vengeance doesn't work, but canceling Hellfire Maelstrom a little early in the corner into Stalking Flare does! 1.2 million damage with 2 meters (it builds one during the combo)

Which is better: OTG into Maelstrom or Spirit of Vengeance? I've heard both answers on which does more damage as an ender.
What about the medium version of spirit of vengeance? He said he was using S.
I'm with this guy ^

Same thing about Wolverine dive kick... he never does that without an assist to cover him... like missiles...
im a main ghost rider player and i hate when the opponent run away from me around the map..its too sad
Could have added his heartless spire backdash cancels. Just spam b+H+any other normal(except S) and he'll basically plink dash.
