CB500 Racing

Off the back of them both breaking their racing ducks on TZR's Gary introduces Charlie to racing a CB500 with EMRA at Mallory Park. With a limited budget and even more limited experience and skill Charlie was out to prove to himself at least, that Pigs do Fly....

I turned up at a Thundersport 500 round back in 2009 having never raced a day in my life, late due to traffic and 15 minutes before the 500's were out to qualify. I qualified 2nd on the grid and walked away on Sunday with a race win and the T500 lap record. I just wish I'd started at 6 years old and not 26! My 7 year old daughter is currently riding motocross at the minute so I get the same kind of thrill watching her progress as I did on the track :)

I used to spend my weekends with EMRA at Mallory many moons ago. I am glad the friendliness and fun are still there. Mallory is a great venue for beginners. You are right to in talking about the tussles throughout the field. We aren't all winners but there is fun to be had racing to beat the people around you wherever you are in the field.

The cb500 is such a beautifully balanced bike. Proper good fun. I need to take mine on a track day.

What changes do you recommend to improve it on the street? I have one cb 500 and i’ll want to enjoy with my friends but in “safety”

let me add this; warming up wets is a fucking no noooo!!! THEY ARE MADE TO WORK IN COLD TEMPS? I.E wetsssssssssssss. hahahhaahha

Well it's a great way to heat cycle them until they're rubbish!!!
Yea but as soon as it gets in the water those tyre temps drop to ambient temp. =)

Fast Bikes Magazine don’t worry about not being fast enough you get amongst the faster riders it will pull you along. And the freshman are fast at the end of the year but not the beginning, you might surprise your self 👌🏼

Dont know if anyone remembers a rider called Steven Thompson from Teesside quite a few years back he cleaned up in the CB five years racing great rider pity he started late in life
