I’m starting to realize that even though Guillermo is sometimes portrayed as an “imp” assistant, everyone who truly sees what he does loves him unconditionally. He seems (I cannot speak for the man, but his joy seems genuine) to love his job, he gets to experience new things, meet new people, expand his horizons while trolling people of a bigger status in wholesome ways and whilst being Jimmy’s right hand and good friend. It also feels that he has the last laugh from people who actually see him as inferior, he got his job for a reason, and he’s a beacon of humbleness and hope. Just cause he might come off as an American-westerly socially awkward Hispanic male doesn’t mean he isn’t a king in his own family home 😊 and I think that’s what matters most
I agree. I've watched Kimmel for years casually and Guillermo always puts a smile on my face. All the other late night sidekicks are seen as people, just less status than the host. But Guillermo is seen by many as a lil oaf who is the butt of jokes and thinks they're laughing with him. But anyone who watches regularly can tell he's a lot more special than that. Sure, the other hosts are probably good friends with their sidekicks. But you can tell Jimmy actually really loves Guillermo, and Guillermo returns it too. He genuinely makes Jimmy laugh and he clearly loves his job. All these other sidekicks are meh compared to Guillermo. Something about him is just so genuine. And as a mexican American myself, he's got this Mexican goofiness (?) To him as well. Its like anyone who watches knows Guillermo has a big role there and looks forward to seeing him. None of these other sidekicks can compare, bc they don't seem to want to be a sidekick. But Guillermo is happy to be who he is, where he is, and does his best everyday.
Genuinely felt happy for Guillermo when LeBron finally gave him a chance to talk with him.

For the ones with idle curiosity: the translation of Thompson in Mandarin is Tāng(汤)Pǔ(普)Sēn(森). Tāng(汤) means soup.
The translation of Gasol is Jiā Suǒ Er, which sounds little bit like "my sister-in-law".
Some of the nicknames they got have similar pronunciation in Chinese, so Thompson is called tang pusen in Chinese, and they because of Thompson had some crazy performances like got 60 pts in 29 minutes, so fans called him shen (god). For the soup one, it is because tang has a meaning of soup. And that's why it doesn't make sense when being translated back to English.

I try my best to explain it, but it's kinda confused to you if you're not a Chinese speaker I understand that.
Thompson translates to Chinese is 汤普森(translate with pronunciation), read as tang pu shen. Then tang is same as the pronunciation as soup in chinese and shen is same as the pronunciation as god in Chinese. So the nickname is tang+shen=汤神, but汤神translates straight back to english will be soup god. So people may misunderstand and get confused but actually those nicknames are pretty good as a chinese people hearing. If u still don’t understand, maybe it just some grammar stuff u have to deal with
