Im a broke 14 year old so i only buy retail and dont even buy it that much. But i got lucky. My best pulls are a 2019 yoan moncada 30th anniversary red /10. And a 2020 nick solak yellow printing plate 1/1
I don't even follow baseball cards but man the memes and funny bits you randomly insert in your breaks always makes me excited for your baseball break vids
I stick with retail because I can't afford hobby. But, I can't find anything at retail. Walked into a hobby shop the other day here in Columbus, OH and not only did they have stacks of blasters and hanger packs but they were displayed in the actual retail display box. I know they are a business and trying to make money but that was kind of a slap in the face. Flippers, breakers and hobby shop owners cleaning the shelves has kind of taken a little of the fun out of collecting unfortunately. I feel bad for all the kids out there. What the hell are they buying?! Another great video Phil. Like seeing these comparisons.
Great video Phil! Bowman is my favorite to PC and the cards always look great. I buy retail occasionally and it's like buying a scratch off lottery ticket, sometimes you get lucky but more often not! Still breaking retail is fun and your video gives me a chance to see the differences in this year's product hobby v retail. Also the longer videos are always fun, keep it up pal these are great!
I believe Phil said they are producing some exclusive videos (perhaps) of this nature with the membership subscription..not sure? Check those out to see what it entails...also Phil's Pulls may have additional offerings on other social media platforms.
I've been checking multiple Target and Walmart locations multiple times per week since literally Christmas trying to find Prizm, Optic, Mosaic, and now Bowman. Goose egg so far. You better believe I'm cleaning out the shelves if I ever find any.
A lot of the Targets and Wal-Marts look like they haven't been restocked in months. I've been to several many times in the past few months and have only seen Gypsy Queen as being the newer product on the shelves. To be honest, I've gotten some cool cards out of 20 Topps and 20 Donruss blasters. Got the Trout RC Logo Medallion card which is sweet.
1. I prefer the longer videos because the world is crazy and longer videos = longer escapism. 2. I like this one with the retail vs hobby angle. A lot of people are unsure of which is the best route so things like this where you showcase the products side by side is helpful. 3. spiros is the man. great video!
Last year pulled a 1of1 kopech 84 chrome, I work in retail and get first dibs but I only get 2or3 packs or blasters, always leave plenty for the community 😉
Thanks for doing this... It was nice to see the 3 options together. Where does one get Jumbo boxes at decent prices? What does it take to get Bowman direct from Topps? And I agree, I don't like individuals buying all the supply at a retail store and jacking up the prices ridiculously. It is bad for the hobby, but it will never change. People be people.
I’ve bought a ton of bowman retail. I know it varies but through quite a large sample size: Blaster boxes: no luck at all Camo - 3 cello: minimal luck Fat packs - lots of luck / color / autos
Phil, I don't mind the longer videos you do because you still break it very efficiently and its always good product. Some breakers take forever. Also, you make it enjoyable because you know the game so well and give a lot of insight of the players.
Best retail hit: 2 days post labral repair surgery, on my birthday, on all the painkillers. Asked my wife to just run to target and get me a grab bag worth $40 of retail stuff. Pulled a Vladimir Guerrero Jr auto /99 out of a gypsy Queen. Great pick by her.
My best retail hit was a 1998 Pacific Online, Jesse Orosco. I went onto the website listed on the card and put in the code, it said I won a one year sub to Sports Cards Monthly. I sent it in and ended up winning the grand prize, a trip for 2 to the 1998 MLB Players Choice Awards.
@Matthew Rude Jesse was one of my favorites. He got the save, got the last hit, and got the last of RBI of the '86 World Series. Everyone thought he was going to sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 8th, including the announcers, but he pulled back and swung away and hit right where the shortstop abandoned his spot to run the wheel play on the bunt.
I have seen a surprising amount of autographs pulled from retail this year. I have been really impressed. I just wish I could find some Bowman to rip open on my channel. Thanks for the video. I can't get enough Bowman action lately.
This was a very accurate showing of what retail is like. You have to buy a ton of product to see one or two "hits." If you are in the hobby to make money, retail is not where you put your chips. Retail to me is for peeps to grab some cards of thier favorite players and maybe get lucky. Hobby always has the better autos/hits as a whole.
37 minute video... LOVE IT!!!!! Love the longer videos when its product I like, and baseball is where its at! I really appreciate this video because I love Bowman and was debating on buying a Jumbo instead of retail hunting! I love the Jumbo box as my favorite, but considering my budget, its more likely than not that all I do is buy retail and then live vicariously through Phil's Pulls for my higher end stuff (and try like crazy to buy the sapphire packs when they are on sale!)
If you can find the blasters in store they are definitely a better deal being they are $20 a piece. I was lucky enough to get 9 of them from a couple of different Walmart locations (one of which was out in the boonies), but that's all I've managed to find. As far as the retail issues, I think Topps needs to sell a lot more on their website and maybe limit orders to 5-10 per person or something like that. Might be one way to alleviate that, although I could see people going so far as to create multiple accounts. Edit: I guess I should add that I did pull an orange auto, 3 base autos, and several colors out of those 9. A little better luck...
Retail for me last year was incredible. Two Wander Franco Green Shimmer Refractor autographs /99 pullEd one month apart but from the same Walmart. Add in Yordan Gold 30th anniversary, Alonso Gold, Urias Red /5 and tons of other refractors and two Joey Bart paper autos. Hobby, one no name auto.
Awesome video!!!! I enjoy watch Retail vs Hobby. Gypsy Queen was awesome in Retail for me and Hobby sucked. But my Best Retail Hit was a Purple Pete Alonso Rated Rookie Printing Plate 1 of 1 in a 2019 Chronicles Blaster Box. I dont even think our card vendor for my area has stocked the shelves once with 2020 Bowman. I check daily and have a friend that is a manager at target and she said he has only been putting out Opening Day. Gotta love the Vendors that enjoy flipping boxes as a side job. Hahahaha love the Thanos clip hahahaha. The edits are on point!!!
Exactly! My LCS has cases of retail that still are in MJ HOLDINGS and Fairfield boxes marked up three times the price. Same for the local shows. Needless to say I’ll pass and stop at 2019 for cards.
If you want a big purchase of cards via retail, you can order straight from the website and have it delivered to you or for pickup. IE Walmart. I ordered 4 mega boxes of Topps Heritage 2020 and picked it up at my local Walmart. It didn’t hurt their inventory stock on hand and I got the product. This especially helps if you live in a rural area like me. Price/Quantity of cards per box influenced my decision to buy. 👍
My best pull was a Bo Jackson Tiffany Topps RC back in 80’s. Still remember the joy and celebration with my brother when I pulled the Jackson. Didn’t really know much about the Tiffany part until later. Sadly it only graded a 9 earlier this year when I realized people care about cards again.
Retail was always feast or starving for me. I did back in 2006 pull from Bowman a Evan Longoria auto ref to 500 and a Hunter Pence xfractor auto... also its been a while since last I was here to commit but enjoyed the quote "we're not here for the paper" also why hobby is much more fun and exciting, its always about the hits...
Like always, a great video. Very educational on the cards and how to get the most out of your money. Also, thanks for the Contreras auto. Fun buying from you. A big 👍🏻
The longer break is good when the product deserves the time. I preferred the Jumbo box, more chances at a good auto. Thanks for the insight Phil. My best retail pull is a 2020 Topps Series 1 Platinum 1/1 Brendan McKay RC
I just found an Austin meadows rookie auto out of 75 that I opened when I was younger and didn’t know anything about cards. Got it out of the cheapest pack from target
I think that to prevent the overpricing of hobby shops, retailers like Walmart, target, etc. could put some sort of box limit on people like 5 boxes per person or something like that.
Hey Phil, I'm right outside of Philly and 3 winter's ago, my wife talked me into going to Target. So it was around 15 degrees out and she said cmon you can get some cards. Of course I went, and when I got home I pulled a Hideki Matsui rc red auto # 2/5 out of a $2.00 pack of series one. Sold it on eBay. So they're out there, but it's like finding a needle in a stack of needles. Keep ripping pal
I opened 20 blaster boxes and got a Green Shimmer Chrome auto, and a Red Refractor Chrome Insert. Note, I purchased them off eBay and I didn't clean out my local Target/Walmart (for those who will try and point fingers. Hope this helps for anyone considering a purchase.
I found 6 blasters at my local Walmart and hit 4 autos and a Dominguez sky blue (#/499). The autos were Green Andy Pages #/99, Adley Rutschman, Green Brennen Davis #/99, and a purple Paper Bobby Witt Jr #/250. It was an insane group of blasters.
Best Retails hits Sandy Koufax 2012 topps series 1 1957 Reprint Relic 1/60 also pulled a 2010 Bowman Gary Sanchez Refractor auto /500 that i sold for $100 in 2014 wish i kept that one. Also pulled a heritage 2020 Mike Trout jersey relic and i pulled a 2010 Topps Chrome Pablo Sandoval patch relic /50 that was in the topps value boxes i was searching for a Strasburg auto those were cool value boxes for $19.99
I used to buy these boxes of mixed packs from Kmart back 15 years ago and I pulled a Jeter relic/auto #d/96 from a pack of 2001 Fleer Focus and also pulled a Nolan Ryan sweet spot auto from 2000 Fleer Showcase I believe.
My best retail pull by far is a Silver Prizm Zion Williamson from a 2019-20 Prizm Gravity Feed Box. It also ended up getting a Gem Mint 9.5 when I sent it to BGS!
my best retail pull was what got me back into the hobby lol. took a flyer on 2018 topps chrome and pulled and acuna auto redemption. had no idea who he was and was pleasantly suprised when i looked him up, as he was still kind of a long shot for the ROY at that time. i resisted the urge to sell it and it will be my first submission to be graded.
I'm just jaded at this point by retail, since I can hardly find it and when I have found it I have had bad luck... Glad to know some have been getting lucky with their retail!
Best retail pull, was a hockey tin on clearance at Wal-Mart!. And I happened to pull an Elias Pettersson young gun, so as I continue to watch the video comparison I'm rootin for RETAIL, let's go retail, common let's do this!....sorry no sports nowadays😎👍🍻
Its the price separation between hobby and retail right now. In 2012 a Bowman hobby was like $65. Now they are like $250! Forced most collectors into retail and now people see a profit to be made quickly on the secondary market.
My son works at Target. He said the same couple guys would wait for the delivery guy to show up every Tuesday. They eventually started kicking them out. I asked him to let me know after he (the card guy) leaves so I can grab something. He doesn’t work on Tuesdays anymore tho. I stopped in today and all they had was 1 box of Gypsy Queen and 3 packs of opening day. I hope I was early because that would suck if the snagged up everything.
Prices for regular Bowman are ridiculous!! Used to be a product collector's on a budget could afford, the whole hobby has gone mad with greed and pumping out products. It's sad to see!!
I think you should do a video of Blasters vs Value Packs vs Fatpacks of Bowman 2020. The Hobby boxes in terms of the auto were really good and the Jumbo was also really good! To get 2 rookie auto's in succesive boxes is super lucky! My best pull from retail was not a bowman but a Topps 2017 box that had an Aaron Judge SSP in the dugout!
Dont get me started on the retail scenario... I work at Target in AZ and there are a group of guys who somehow know when the vendor is at the Target stores and they buy everything up.... Then turn around and resell it... Our AP guy is not limiting the quantity as they feel that by doing so, they would see a ton more loss as people would end up just stealing them.... The product does not last more than a day, luckily when it comes in I get first dibs to seeing what arrives however unlike these assholes I dont have a surplus income that allows me to go hog wild and buy up our entire stock when it hits the shelf... It is really annoying ad irritating that they essentially are ruining it for everyone else that is actually a collector and not just someone attempting a quick investment...
I have a small shop in FL and one of my customers bought a box of hobby (flat) and pulled a Red Wave Witt /5 and a Dominguez chrome auto in the same box! Nice
I'm honestly pissed I cant find any type of baseball cards on the shelves at my local walmart or target. As soon as its stocked so a-hole is there buying everything n leaving nothing for anyone else
Not true for Walmart, they get their stock through a truck and employees stock it. They have to take pictures of the products they just stocked so their manager knows they stocked it once the hoarders come in and buy everything two seconds after they hit the shelf.
@@darkmatter69420 they deliver it but don't stock it. I had the lady from Walmart upset with me every week when Prizm basketball came out and she would just get done stocking before I asked her if they had more.
Finally found Bowman retail in the wild at my local Walmart. Bought two blasters. First pack, first blaster, Brujan green shimmer auto /99. Nothing else to note.
Best retail was a Aaron judge 1/1 die cut rookie auto out of Bowman platinum. Pulled it from a hanger pack. Also pulled a judge /75 rookie auto from archives out of a blaster. Pulled a harper/trout dual auto out of a retail topps chrome /10. So I have done well from retail.
I haven't even seen empty displays. My hope is the distributor for stores near me have a large stockpile they'll start stocking after everything clears up.
I’ve opened 7-8 boxes of blasters. I must have luck on my side as I gotten multiple blues, greens and 3 autos. Best pulls are Bichette green paper, a top 100 green Dominguez to 99 and the best pull of all is a true green chrome Dominguez to 99.
RNE2224U Yes, there are still ways around it. But making you walk in with 2-3 ppl is better than one person buying them all. I would still have some left since you guys “only were able to buy 12 with your 3 people. It works better than nothing.
Best blaster I've ever opened was a donruss football 2019. Pulled Matt Ryan # to 50, easton stick rated rookie auto AND josh Jacob's 1 of 1 nfl shield (donruss threads relic) . Was absolutely insane
I've been buying basically exclusively retail for 10 years and the best card I ever hit was a Miguel Sano SSP non auto. Sold for $40. That's it. I have the worst luck ever. And I don't know why I keep spending money. I hear people pulling fire from retail all the time. And Phil gets a Dominguez green auto in a blaster. Unreal.
Occasionally I check my local Wal Mart for any Bowman Draft. Unfortunately I live in North Vancouver so I don't find any. I've seen them carry Bowman Draft the last couple of years so I'm not sure if they get them months later after release or with the pandemic, nothing is coming in(the small shelf it's basically empty. Few hockey boxes but not much). But after seeing your retail breaks, might be better to sticking with singles on Ebay and just keep watching your breaks.
Im a broke 14 year old so i only buy retail and dont even buy it that much. But i got lucky. My best pulls are a 2019 yoan moncada 30th anniversary red /10. And a 2020 nick solak yellow printing plate 1/1
He's probably your dad. lol
Ive never pulled anything higher than /10 in 11 years of collecting, not even a printing plate. Still hoping for that elusive 1/1.
way to go. Now all you need is a Kikuchi.
ruclips.net/video/RrS6Brr3Ecg/видео.html
FinShot I’m in the same boat
@Slopjaw Johnson lol
At this speed opening lots of packs long vids are fine with me
Me: pulls a Dominguez and stops runs screams grabs top loader and puts it in
Him: passes by a dominguez
same🤣😂😃😎😆😁👍
No sapphire yet
rightfully so. Domingo has ZERO MLB or minor league at bats. Don't be a moron please unless you want to be at the bottom of the Ponzi.
Lololololol
Lmao that’s how I’d do lol 😂 that’s how I was when I pulled that Nico Hoerner auto rookie lol 😂
I don't even follow baseball cards but man the memes and funny bits you randomly insert in your breaks always makes me excited for your baseball break vids
I stick with retail because I can't afford hobby. But, I can't find anything at retail. I think you should compare the variations of products more often. It is very interesting to see what you get for your money.
Whoever edits thes e videos has me laughing my ass off every video. Great job
I always thought Phil did the editing himself. Heck, his eBay has like $2 cards so it seems like he can do some piddly stuff.
I was looking to write the same exact post so I guess I’ll just going to like this one and keep watching.. 😜😂😂😂
Haven’t found any retail bowman this year but my best retail hit ever is a Tatis blue wave auto from a blaster of last years topps chrome #/150
Bowman Chrome is hobby only lol...
Winn Brian I think he meant Topps chrome lol
Same here no bowman retail my local target had 3 gravity feed boxes all empty
Great video Phil! Bowman is my favorite to PC and the cards always look great. I buy retail occasionally and it's like buying a scratch off lottery ticket, sometimes you get lucky but more often not! Still breaking retail is fun and your video gives me a chance to see the differences in this year's product hobby v retail. Also the longer videos are always fun, keep it up pal these are great!
Short or long videos. No matter what they are I still watch! Content great, keep up the phenomenal work
This was an epic video. Props to you and the editor for making it all engaging!
Can you make a video just talking about knowing cards worth or stratagies and guides
It comes with time around the hobby. PWCC has a great tool on their website where you could see the past auction prices any card has sold at.
I believe Phil said they are producing some exclusive videos (perhaps) of this nature with the membership subscription..not sure? Check those out to see what it entails...also Phil's Pulls may have additional offerings on other social media platforms.
LoL!!! On Phil's "wasted" blaster fumble edit!! funniest thing I've seen in a long time!
I've been checking multiple Target and Walmart locations multiple times per week since literally Christmas trying to find Prizm, Optic, Mosaic, and now Bowman. Goose egg so far. You better believe I'm cleaning out the shelves if I ever find any.
The only thing my stores ever have is opening day single packs
A lot of the Targets and Wal-Marts look like they haven't been restocked in months. Max Cribb that’s better than mine lol
1. I prefer the longer videos because the world is crazy and longer videos = longer escapism.
2. I like this one with the retail vs hobby angle. A lot of people are unsure of which is the best route so things like this where you showcase the products side by side is helpful.
3. spiros is the man.
great video!
Your videos are starting to become the best card breaks on RUclips. Good Job Phil.
I love that whenever you say Puason, you immediately have a Boston accent
Last year pulled a 1of1 kopech 84 chrome, I work in retail and get first dibs but I only get 2or3 packs or blasters, always leave plenty for the community 😉
Best retail hits - Puason Green Shimmer /99 and Yellow /75. Hit a Mojo Dominguez and Witt in one mega. Great video Phil!
I know it varies but through quite a large sample size:

Fat packs - lots of luck / color / autos
Phil, I don't mind the longer videos you do because you still break it very efficiently and its always good product. Some breakers take forever. Also, you make it enjoyable because you know the game so well and give a lot of insight of the players.

Thanks for the video. I can't get enough Bowman action lately.
That RUclipser talking smack about you is just butt hurt cause you have 10×s more subscribers. Keep bringing the heat!!
This was a very accurate showing of what retail is like. You have to buy a ton of product to see one or two "hits."

Long videos are totally ok. Very informative. Many of us can’t afford hobby and have to mostly buy retail.
Excellent use of Spiros. Extra points for the Jack Black Encarnacion.
Editing and sound bites are the best
Sometimes with a new product like this the longer videos to give you a true representation is nice. Thanks p
Phil! Keep up the good work!

Phil, thanks for showing us the three different formats! Saw a lot of haters/hating n they just jealous! Keep up the good work! Aloha
Awesome video!!!! I enjoy watch Retail vs Hobby. Gypsy Queen was awesome in Retail for me and Hobby sucked. But my Best Retail Hit was a Purple Pete Alonso Rated Rookie Printing Plate
1 of 1 in a 2019 Chronicles Blaster Box.

Glad you show value of the cards. Most youtubers do not.
Love these longer videos. Keep up the great content

Best Retails hits Sandy Koufax 2012 topps series 1 1957 Reprint Relic 1/60 also pulled a 2010 Bowman Gary Sanchez Refractor auto /500 that i sold for $100 in 2014 wish i kept that one. Also pulled a heritage 2020 Mike Trout jersey relic and i pulled a 2010 Topps Chrome Pablo Sandoval patch relic /50 that was in the topps value boxes i was searching for a Strasburg auto those were cool value boxes for $19.99
Pulled a decades best mike trout platinum 1/1 from 2020 topps blaster box, best retail pull I have ever had.
Michael Snead I ended up selling it for $1300 so yeah definitely a nice card! Appreciate the reply!

Just pulled adley rutschman chrome refactor on card auto /499 out of 2019 bowman jumbo from the platinum boombox
My top retail pull was from 2020 Heritage blaster, Yordan Alverez RPA /25 on card. Also pulled a Lux/May Chrome out of /71 from a heritage hanger

Retail has been good to me so far. I was lucky and hit a hot box. Lux green auto, purple, and a 1of 1 stamp plate. 🤘🏻 all retail prices!
I opened 1 blaster an pulled a 1st jasson plus pipline tigers /50 got to love retail.
My best retail card? Phil will love this!! Fernando Tatis Jr. Topps Chrome Update Family business 3/5 Autograph. 1:30,000+ packs. 🤩
I hope I was early because that would suck if the snagged up everything.
i love seeing what you can get from walmart as its the only place i have near me and also i love the longer videos
I prefer retail since it’s actually affordable!
Jack Nelson but even then retail is not cheap
He has no care for price lol
U have to spend $400 in retail to get the odds of one hobby box.
@@tomnape28 Not everybody is after just the autos
I agree, I like pulling an auto, but I honestly just want a couple boxes in the hopes of pulling a Dominguez, Witt, etc. Autos and color are a bonus.
Jumbo and Hobby boxes all day. You had some solid pulls. That speckle 1st bowman brujan probably your best pull!
Fun breaks, love the prospect autos. Plus you pulled Matt Strahms guy (Aquino) on the down low. Thanks Phil
Cant you find out for yourself when the shipment comes in?
I have a small shop in FL and one of my customers bought a box of hobby (flat) and pulled a Red Wave Witt /5 and a Dominguez chrome auto in the same box! Nice
I'm honestly pissed I cant find any type of baseball cards on the shelves at my local walmart or target. As soon as its stocked so a-hole is there buying everything n leaving nothing for anyone else
Same with the more collectible hot wheel sets.
@Jay Slays they are stocked by a third party that comes once a week or bi-weekly depending on the size of your store. Not store employees.
Not true for Walmart, they get their stock through a truck and employees stock it. They have to take pictures of the products they just stocked so their manager knows they stocked it once the hoarders come in and buy everything two seconds after they hit the shelf.
@@carolinatarheels7903 I know from personal experience MJ holdings delivers basketball products and does it once a week.
Best hit out of retail - a Goldschmidt auto relic #d to 25 and a Puig RC Gold auto in the same Gypsy Queen blaster.
I think retail boxes/blasters are great for folks who don’t want to (or can’t afford to) spend the money in a hobby box.
My best retail pull was from a gravity pack of Donruss basketball pulled a green/purple auto Zion Williamson. Was a fun day.
I have yet to see a blaster box at my local Walmart or target 🤦♂️
I haven't even seen empty displays. My hope is the distributor for stores near me have a large stockpile they'll start stocking after everything clears up.
I have yet to see any baseball cards at my local target since March 6th
I know how you feel. I just want to open something and no offense, but I'm a Topps/Bowman only guy.
Best retail pull was an Austin Riley Autograph Patch Major League Material /25 Braves Auto. Very first pack I bought this year too.
I’ve opened 7-8 boxes of blasters. I must have luck on my side as I gotten multiple blues, greens and 3 autos. Best pulls are Bichette green paper, a top 100 green Dominguez to 99 and the best pull of all is a true green chrome Dominguez to 99.
When I see a 37 minute video: 😑
When I realize it Phil’s: 😁
When it comes to baseball it seems like the hype definitely flowed over into baseball. Prices aren’t as outrageous however the demand is high!
I think all retail stores should make it a limit 4 box max per customer.
RNE2224U Yes, there are still ways around it. But making you walk in with 2-3 ppl is better than one person buying them all. I would still have some left since you guys “only were able to buy 12 with your 3 people. It works better than nothing.
love the long videos! cant wait for more!
I pulled ssp Trout throwback from heritage 20 blaster. monster. best by far!
I love just opening packs, absolutely love the Bowman this year. And yea.....I love the paper
Best blaster I've ever opened was a donruss football 2019. Pulled Matt Ryan # to 50, easton stick rated rookie auto AND josh Jacob's 1 of 1 nfl shield (donruss threads relic) . Was absolutely insane
I'm down for longer videos. Always good value.
I am really digging the longer videos!
Amen Phil, only found one box so far! Had to break down an buy some for $40!
I guess its always just whats in the cards...keep doing what your doing as always enjoy the sound bites, and edits..."see-ya" next time
I've been buying basically exclusively retail for 10 years and the best card I ever hit was a Miguel Sano SSP non auto.
I only watch u Phil an I watch jabs an every single suitcase (baseball only) I believe it's platinum from tops to rich 4 my blood 👍👍👍✌🏻✌🏽✌️👍🏼
I don't know why anyone wouldn't want longer videos. I mean, you don't *have* to watch it all at once. The more content the better.
