    You're set up perfect for them. One thing I might
    Add .Unless you're musky fishing in a lake or area that is loaded with them, go for pike instead. Way way easier to catch , theyll hit most snything.. they get almost as big. Almost. You'll cast your arm off for musky. Better fish to chase out there imho

      Thanks! Yes.... I also fish for Pike when I'm in Maine. The Musky is just one of those bucket list fish. I'll get one eventually, but I'll keep after the Pike too! They're a lot of fun! Thanks for watching.

    I use a Tranx for big swimbaits, A-Rigs, and Musky Baits....that reel really is a beast when it comes to big baits or needing some real cranking power. You got a winner IMO with that reel.

    Yes be careful not to lose that side plate,I’ve only lost one,not on the Tranx it was a Curado and I contacted Shimano and they sent me another for free❤️and I throw 65lb all the time with a leader and in my opinion the heavy braid you get 80-90% less backlashes that’s why ALL of my rods are braid to leader and one other thing Tracy the 190 Whooper Plooper the Smallmouth of all sizes are going to smash that , I promise you when they see it they want to kill it even 1 lb Bass they don’t care,sorry for the long story 🤣😂❤️

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  Год назад +1

      I have seen several videos where the angler lost that Tranx side plate. I've never lost one but don't want to jinx myself. I have no doubt the Smallies will hit that 190.

    I was taught that when casting heavy iron in salt water, turn the reel upside down when finishing the cast. That way the looping line tends to fall away from the spinning spool. It really helps when you're throwing 10 oz lures and they can set some really tight and mean backlashes, Some of the best advice I've gotten.

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  Год назад

      That makes perfect sense. I won't be throwing anything bigger than my whopper plopper 190. I can't imagine throwing a 10 oz lure!!!

    When I was a kid fishing in the St. Lawrence (Thousand Islands) back in the 60s my dad and I fished for pike ALL DAY LONG, LITERALLY. The lure of preference for me? The spoon. Striped, polka dot, solid in all color varieties caught big monster pike. I don't think much has changed in 50, 60 years. I believe they will still get hit!

      @@OldLadyAngler it's a shame that Pike and muskie have fallen off the radar. They were the catch of choice back in the 60s. No more! Now they're more of a nuisance than a celebration to today's anglers. Change is the one certainty in life. Even with fishing .

    Hi, Tracy!! Glad to see you back at it. I noticed you have been catching bowfin lately. Is there a certain time e of year that they bite more often than usual? Is there a bait that they prefer more than others?

    • @OldLadyAngler

    Those muskies are tough. Just out of curiosity.. I know fishing gear is like cars.. people like one brand over the other. Just curious if u have ever tried other reel brands. I tried Shimsno and never Hines liked shimano.. I use Daiwa reels and just got one from direct from Japan! When are u off to Maine?

      I have owned a few other reels.... Garcia, Penn, Johnny Morris. I've had great experience with Shimano. Have never owned a Daiwa reel but have a Zillion rod that I really like. Lots of the PRO anglers use Daiwa. I leave FL at the end of August but I have a few weeks before I arrive in Maine. So, mid September.
