  • John Petrucci explains how he uses Channel 1 of his signature Mark IIC+ head for clean sounds with his live performance rig. While explaining how he likes to set up the amp and his FX for tones on their Astonishing 2016 Tour, he provides a comparison of the amp’s sound with and without FX for comparison.
    John’s Clean JP-2C settings:
    Gain 4
    Master 4.5
    Presence 6
    Treble 5.5
    Middle 3
    Bass 4
    NO EQ
    FX: TC Electronic Hyper Gravity compressor pedal with JP EverComp toneprint/ Multi-Tap delay/chorus (generated by Fractal Axefx XL+)
    Recorded with John Petrucci Ernie Ball MusicMan Majesty with DiMarzio Illuminator pickups into Ch. 1 of the JP2C through a Rectifier Traditional 4x12 Straight with Mesa Custom Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. MIc’d with a Shure KSM 313, Shure SM57 and stereo camera room mic. Mixed with 45% KSM 313, 45% SM57 and 10% room mic.

    Mesa slays. I always get compliments on all my shows for how clear my guitar cuts through compared to all the other bands. I know that has a lot to do with playing and setup but the amp has a lot to do with it as well.

    What I would really love is for Mesa to come out with a lower wattage version that doesn't also lose features.
    The Mark V is a wonderful amp but too loud for me.
    The Mesa 5-25 is also wonderful except that I want to be able to foot switch between clean and crunch.
    A 25 watt version of this would be great.

    What differentiates this Mark IIC+ circuit from the version integrated in the Mark V?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 лет назад +2

      Great question, +Azael VI - The difference is mainly in the power section. The Mark V power section is Simul-Class (Class A AND Class A/B) and because of this, the overall sound is slightly smoother, slightly more compressed and forgiving and slightly 'jucier' to play. The JP-2C is a full Class A/B with a tremendous power transformer that was used on original Mark IIC+ amps and the result of this power section and transformer is huge punch, clarity, detail and immediate response in attack. The gain, saturation and harmonic layering will be very similar between the two amps, but you will FEEL the difference between them if you were to do a side-by-side comparison. Hope this helps and thanks for your interest! :)

    Ia the clean channel the same as the one found in the Mark V (Clean or Fat) or is it something new/different???

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 лет назад

      Great question, Victor - The clean sound in the JP2C is more similar than different to the Mark V Fat. But because of the transformer in the JP2C and John's request for the ultimate clean headroom, the clean channel in the JP2C is definitely tighter, punchier and very pristine, sparkling and detailed. Lots of players are LOVING the added headroom and pristine clean from the JP2C.

      @victormats949 8 лет назад +1

    When I have the reverb on in the first channel and I switch from 2nd or 3rd to 1st, I get that fading noise. Any way I can get rid of that or do I just need to always turn off reverb before switching to the first channel?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  6 лет назад

      The reverb fading is normal, Colin - it's built in to the circuit to make sure the reverb circuit doesn't get spiked with a pop when changing channels.

    • @Colin.W
      @Colin.W 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, a pop would be much worst but I do get a big pop when I switch from first to third, just once though and then it is good after that. This is during each time I turn it on.
      I'll have to get used to double tapping, I guess where I like to leave my reverb on for my clean channel (1st).

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Colin - OK - glad to hear it is just the first switch that makes that he pop. That is normal operation and the way people deal with that is to switch the amp a few times - even in standby - and then you won't have that experience. Make it a part of your power up routine and after a few times you won't even notice it. :) Thanks for your reply and hope the am,p is sounding great!

    Is John using the middle position of the pickup's? Anyone knows?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 лет назад

      Back and forth between bridge and neck, +Javier SM. Just have to watch his pickup switching closely. He switches often in his solos.

    • @danhall716
      @danhall716 7 лет назад +5

      Javier SM John tends to be very methodical with regards to when and where he uses certain pickup settings. Typical for JP would be as follows: Clean = middle switch position (with the tone knob pulled on the newer versions of his guitars to just get the two inboard coils active in parallel), Heavy Rhythm: bridge pickup alone, Lead: Neck pickup alone when playing higher on the neck, Bridge pickup alone when playing in the lower regions of the neck. He does sometimes stray from this formula, but it's fairly easy to tell by just listening...the middle position sounds like a Strat in switch positions 2 and 4 (bridge and middle or neck and middle), the Bridge pickup alone is very aggressive and loaded with harmonics, and the Neck pickup alone is very smooth and buttery.

      To be honest, to really get this sound, you really need to be running a stereo rig. Ideally, you'd want two identical amps to accomplish this but it can be done with two different ones too. So it ends up being an even more expensive setup! Hopefully you win the lottery as there's nothing more pleasing than a stereo rig!

    • @samiam7342
      @samiam7342 7 лет назад

      a brand new 2500.00 boogie does not need anything if you are just playing in your house with it. when it comes to recording or playing live - everybody uses all that rack system stuff regardless of what kind of gear they use........
