Welcome to the Department of Earth Sciences

More than 250 people from over 30 different countries work in our department in Uppsala and at the university’s campus on the island of Gotland. Over 2 500 students start (come) to study here every year, on Bachelor levels and Master level as well as many new PhD students.
Our fields of study and research bridge between natural science and social science.
We address questions like:
How has earth developed and life on earth evolved?
How are we affected by weather, climate and natural hazards?
How do we use our natural resources in a sustainable way?
