  • Europe’s Galileo is the world’s most precise satellite navigation system, providing metre-level accuracy to billions of users. ESA and European industry are preparing a new generation of satellites, the Galileo Second Generation or G2, that will revolutionise the fleet with enhanced capabilities.

    What will the inter satellite links be used for ? measurment of inter satellite distances ? clock synchronisations ? or something else ?

    Hello ESA! How are you guys doing? Do you guys know when JUICE 🥤 will reach Jupiter? How will it be done?
    Good luck, ESA! ❤

      Hoping that eveything will go to plan, JUICE will reach Jupiter in 2031 through a series of gravity accelerations by Earth, Venus and Mars. There is a video showing that by ESA called "JUICE's journey to Jupiter"

      I think they all have decimeter precision, but for military use only. Welcome change, if they push for more accurate public services. 👍

      @akyhne 13 дней назад +5

      No, it's not only for military usage. For more than a decade, you could buy a system to an agricultural setup, e.g. a tractor with a manure spreader. You then just drive the tractor onto your crops field and the GPS system will precision steer the tractor by itself, making sure no overlap happens. When the tank is empty, you go get a full tank and when entering the field, the GPS system will know how far you got on the last run and start from there. It's basically a Tesla self-driving system for tractors, but unlike Elon's failed attempts, this actually works.
      I don't know if this is true, but I've heard these are accurate down to 2 cm.

      @@akyhne Awesome, didn't know but makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
      Maybe ESA cares to share a view insights in their next Galileo video once the first ones are up. 😉

      In Europe we use differential Positioning System to enhance the precision.
      This can reach mimimeter accuracies.
      However that requires teresstrial receiver stations so that we can calculate an accurate position.
      But the new Sattelites allow faster and broader positioning without groundbased stations.

    Finally ESA has found the money to pay someone without a VERY strong accent speaking English. I thought this moment will never come. Their streams of Ariane/Vega launches - hrrrr, hrrrrr, hrr. I am not a native English speaker, by the way.
