- The U.N. General Assembly has voted by a wide margin to grant new “rights and privileges” to Palestine and has called on the Security Council to reconsider Palestine's request to become the 194th member of the United Nations. The world body approved the resolution on Friday by a vote of 143-9 with 25 abstentions.

The UN as a whole has never been a fan of anything Israel does. We're going on 80 years of this now at this point. When Germany did this it was for how long? I think 13 years until it got stopped.

@@shaungaming7531 The UN does not *have* a military. It has peacekeepers contributed by member states (of which the US contributes a grand total of NINE.)
While the US withdrawing from the UN would affect humanitarian aid efforts and not much else, it would also have the effect of turning the UN into an anti-western bloc that we have no control over, and giving anti-western countries a free framework to cooperate and plan with.

The UN gets funding and support from half the world. They're not some country in the US's sphere of influence.
There is a past case of a country being petty and pulling out of the UN over a decision they didn't like. The USSR did it in 1948 over the UN's position on divided Germany.
Of course, this meant that in 1950, when the Korean War started, the USSR wasn't there to veto the formation of United Nations command. Cue a coalition of UN-marked troops from half the world beating a Soviet ally into the dust until China intervened.
So, basically, what I'm saying is, if the US pulls out of the UN, don't be surprised when Israel becomes the next North Korea.
