I first heard Linda Ronstadt in 1970, she had already recorded "Different Drum" with The Stone Pony's, and just recorded "Long Long Time" (one of my favorites, if that is at all possible). The first thought that ran trough my head was just how good she was, and then thinking "this girl is going to be a huge star" (my one and only prediction that came true). She was only mildly known at the time.
As time passed I continued to listen to her music and fell in love with her. I guess like most guy's at the time, if they knew who Linda was, they were in love with her. I know there is some Willie Nelson quote regarding this, but that came later.
In November of 1976, I finally got the chance to see her in concert, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. I remember hearing that she was going to perform there and asked my friends if they would like to go. I got laughed at, as they commented ... "are you kidding Linda Ronstadt, fu*k no"; these guys were all hard rockers. Well my response was for all of them to go fu*k themselves, and I went to the concert alone. By the way, the best concert I've ever been to, no flash pyrotechnics, no rhythmic dancing, no over-the-top drama, just a great band with the best singer I have ever heard, making beautiful music. Just a joy to my ears!
Sadly, I have never had a chance to see her a second time, but her voice has been an integral part of my life, and will continue to be. So you see, if I come across a little or alot biased, well, it's because I am!
I know that many DON'T share this opinion, there are also many that DO ... but I believe that she is the GREATEST SINGER. I can't say of all time because, all time has not passed, but too me, she is! I will continue to joyfully listen to her music, and hope that she recovers, (perhaps a new cure will emerge).
On a sad and happy note, the fact that she's afflicted with such a condition just breaks my heart, but we can all be so grateful that she has left us such large and eclectic catalog of music. We are all winners to benefit from her immense talent!
Oh ... and I did buy a mirrored album cover of "Hasten Down the Wind" at a local swap-meet back in the 70's !
Linda ... you are the GREATEST !

My friend and I saw Linda, 1970, at the University of Calif., Davis campus's multi-purpose room. We all sat on the linoleum floor. Her opening band, The Eagles (on the heals of their renowned, Witchy Woman). One of my top 3 concerts of ALL TIME.
Before that, I fell in love with Linda when I saw her sing on TV (some variety show) "Will you love me tomorrow."
    Amazing everything!
    ❤❤❤

Linda Ronstadt didn’t need to write songs. Keith Richards wrote “Tumblin’ Dice” but Keith said Linda owned it. Roy Orbison wrote “Blue Bayou” and she owned that too. I reckon that every song she she ever recorded or performed was better than the original. What a voice. She could rock you or rock you to sleep with a lullaby.

Sane with her rendition of Dione Warwick's cover of,
      "Anyone whoever loved..."
Hauntingly fantastic. I prefer Linda's rendition.

Per Wikipedia, Linda Ronstadt made about 39 albums including compilations, but guested on so many other performers disks that her total is around 120 - quite formidable.

I love Linda Ronstadt's voice especially Blue Bayou. She could wail. I put her right up there on a pedestal with Ann Wilson. It's a shame that Linda has such a debilitating condition and she can no longer sing. It's heartbreaking.

She didn’t write many songs but the ones she did write were phenomenal. She wrote with Andrew Gold Try me Again (Linda has stated that she wrote the lyrics entirely but Gold fleshed out the bridge in the music). Also love Winter Light.

Linda was a musical force. But I must mention "Right Time of the Night" sung by Jennifer Warnes. It is the work behind the scenes that makes her sound better than great. A good song must be expressed by the performing artists, AND produced well. Thanks to Val Garay, Warnes' evocative vocal conveys emotion from your speakers to your ears, mind and heart. Bad engineering can break a song; Great engineering breathes life into it.

I saw Val play guitar on stage at the Troubadour in L.A. as a member of the group Pan (who also included Ron Elliott of the Beau Brummels, though he didn't perform with them, and singer Keith Barbour, who had had a minor hit with "Echo Park").

I had a conversation with Val in a studio in 1985. It was a little argumentative because I was a Linn drum machine fan and Val liked the Onerhein DX because I believe he and Craig Kramph (Kim Carrs drummer) used on. Etta Davis eyes. Very nice man and it was good natured banter and busting chops :-)

The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation. Otherwise, pretty dull interview. Andrew Gold was a great musician but I never thought much of him as a songwriter.

I always thought Linda's best song was "Dreams To Dream" which was on the "Fievel Goes West" '91 movie soundtrack. Her other good songs that you may not
have heard are: 1) A Different Drum w/The Stone Poneys '67 2) Long Long Time '70 3) Look Out For My Love (This song was written by Neil Young and was
on her '80 "Mad Love" LP/CD).

ah, she was not as nice as you may think. She was hateful & rude to an esteemed Hollywood vocal coach that Nelson Riddle had asked to help her with that jazz album… actually couldn’t even properly hold the mic. & that had to be taught in her vocal lessons …she had a big ego …always argued & was quite mean to him. The album was a success with his coaching. No thanks was given or any acknowledgment.
