    I wish I had started having birds when I was younger. It's so nice when you don't have so much responsibilies.

    I really don't know what I did to get my Quaker to trust me as much as she does. My family adopted her when she was 10, and while she had been handled by her previous owner, she now had to get used to 6 whole new people. On the second or so night we had her, she got spooked by a vacuum cleaner and flew up onto a curtain rod. I offered her a finger to help her down, and she decided to trust me. We've had an unbreakable bond since.

    I’ve got two birds ( lovebirds ) One will step up if it needs to go somewhere it can’t go because sadly it got clipped by the previous owner and the other is very skittish and I can’t do anything with that bird. I did the power pause which worked. I can get close but no sudden movement or it flies away. It won’t take any treat from me . They are both babies though the youngest which allows step ups is 3 months old and the other is 4 months old so it’s a matter of respecting their boundaries and having lots of patience. Each bird is different.

      They are all different especially rescues can take lots and lots of time. One of my rescue cockatiels took a year, mango took 3 years, luza was 2y, My late quaker kiwi was day 1, all different for sure

    Very helpful video. My Rio is very cuddly and let me pet him, hold him ( i can hold him in any position 😅, i personally like cup position 😂 ) he actually likes it but Peach don't want pets but she likes to cuddle like under my neck, in my hood but she don't want be held so i don't force her, only when she let me 😊
    Rio and Peach both are so comfortable around me like they both of them play on their backs at top of me like everyday 😅 Just a different btwn Rio and Peach is that i can do anything with Rio but not with Peach, she likes less pets, i can just put my hand on her that's it and if she wants anything she will let me do that otherwise a big NO 😂

    I had my sun conure (or my sun conure had me, it depends how you look at it), since he/she was few weeks old (I need to get a DNA test), but my son conure was very quick to get comfortable with us, including our other birds

    Great video. I have a 10yr old female eclectus that was abused )when found outside her tail was cut off plus random feather clipping). From day one after she realized I respect her space and body language she wanted to be near me but didn’t want pets (probably had never had trust towards hands) so I began doing two things. 1. She is allowed on my shoulder but I do NOT interact with her there. All fun talking takes place on my hand with her in front of me so she can see my eyes and read my body language.
    2. I first started trying to bring one finger close to top of head and that still freaked her out so I began putting the BACK of my finger near her. Any bad things from hands usually happen with open hand so using the back of the hand/finger is a totally different action. I can now rub all over the side of her head with my knuckles and I can also now talk while on my shoulder because she no longer sees hands as a bad thing and will willingly step up!

    If I want a monk parrot that is good at talking, should I buy one that is young?

    • @mimisbirdhouse
      @mimisbirdhouse  7 месяцев назад

      There will never be a guarantee that they will talk or be good talkers. I had another monk parakeet that was 4y old and only knew how to say 4 words. He was amazing at problem solving games though. Meanwhile the one in the video learns like crazy
