Flow control: The transport layer controls the flow of data to prevent the destination device from being overwhelmed with data. Error control: The transport layer ensures that data is transmitted error-free and in the correct order. Connection-oriented and connectionless communication: The transport layer provides both connection-oriented and connectionless communication services. Multiplexing and demultiplexing: The transport layer uses port numbers to multiplex and demultiplex data to different applications. Some of the commonly used protocols in the transport layer are TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol). TCP is connection-oriented, whereas UDP is connectionless. TCP is reliable and ensures that data is transmitted without errors, whereas UDP is not reliable and does not guarantee delivery of data.
