The biggest, and most useful lesson my Dad ever taught me is that no one is going to help you better, than you can help yourself. He then took me to Dairy Queen that day. It was my 15th birthday. The age that child labor laws allowed some one to work in my state at the time. He went in and came out with an application and said here’s your present. Lol and I thought we were driving there for blizzards…I’ve worked ever since though. I was mad at the time, but as a 32 year old man now. I realize that was the best present I’d been given.
It’s a good lesson to have early, kind of a dick way to do it but all the same, regardless the world is going to show you that you have to help yourself and at times some help can be used and not the other way around, but look at her specifically, it reminds me a lot of girls who were claiming “homeless” in high school, they were pretty and wanted to whatever tf they wanted without anyone telling them shit so they either left home or got kicked tf out, it’s not really about letting your kids know specifically that no one help you but it’s more about letting your kids know they have shit they gotta do and they really have to keep their life together and how they act in their younger years and treat their early responsibilities is going to result in how they live their adult life
Damn, he could have at least come out with a blizzard too. I get the lesson, but we have our whole adult lives to waste away working. Did you at least get a hug??? It was he not the type?
People don’t realise that for some people becoming homeless is a very easy thing to fall in to & they should be treated the same way u treat family/ everyone else, don’t look down on anyone unless ur helping them back up x
The saddest part about alot of these homeless teenagers 17, 18, 19 , and young 20's we see is a lot of them have homes. They have parents who would let then stay well past 18. But they don't want to follow the parents rules or show any respect . Or get jobs and contribute even slightly to the bills or even just towards their own personal expenses. They get kicked out or think they will be better off on their own and end up in situation like these. When in reality she is just a scared , vulnerable teenage girl who is an easy target on the streets

@@firstclass8972 - yeah. People don't typically look up into a tree at night to 'find' someone. You sleep 'crotch to crotch'. The joint where a limb meets the tree is a crotch, you lay on the brach with your crotch into the trees crotch (facing the trunk) and then lay on the branch and spread out your arms as sponsons. My vocabulary at the time would NOT have been able to explain this, but maybe you can picture it. I didn't do this a whole bunch of times, but will say this - absolutely wonderful to wake up with 100 birds all around you chirping and so on. I still (and am right now) smile about it. I was in a park, where the cops caught me and took my weed - I sold joints to het a few bucks in school. The cops said "wait here" and had me sit on the back bumper of the Patty Wagon. I sat there for a long time and finally went to the front to see wtf was taking so long to 'bust me'. The 2 cops were in there rolling joints out of my bag!! I said, "Hey??" and the cop said, "Beat it, you've got 10 (seconds)." I was gone in 2. I just couldn't believe it and went back a little later and wound up sleeping in the tree there. @Ghee buttersnaps what research are you basing that statement off of? As someone who actually regularly deals with homeless people (tbf... only in my neighborhood specifically so it is anecdotal) and has read the very promising data provided by "Housing First" programs, I disagree with your statement. In the vast majority of cases where homeless people were just given housing, they were able to more successfully integrate into society than homeless people who weren't given housing first. So even if your chief concern is that they should be productive members of society, it makes more sense to provide them housing automatically. But honestly... that shouldn't be the fhief concern here... people should be housed regardless of whether or not they have the ability to work. Requiring someone to be employed in order to be housed is... downright dystopian and kind of ableist (a lot of homeless people have disabilities rendering them less effective workers. The hotel owner kept telling me to put my pride away and move into her spare room in her house, but I couldn’t just move out of my parents into another old persons home a few weeks later. I hate hand outs. I’m far, far, far better off now than I was in ‘17 and being homeless was an experience I never want to have again.
What aboht talking to ALL the people who have tried to get out but haven't been able to? Seems like you are purposefully building in a blind spot by only talking to the ones who successfully made it oht because you don't want to hear the truth about how our society treats people... and the fact of the matter is in a lot of cases successfully getting out relies a LOT on luck and not just determination to get out. Sources: I have actually talked to homeless people who tried and failed to escape homelessness as well as the people who successfully escaped homelessness.
@@seancakin1469 Luck? You wanna talk about luck? I had to work my ass off to penny pinch like a Jew to be able to go from living in a Tahoe to renting a house for 650 a month. Took 4 months to save that 1400 dollars. There's no luck in that. It's not like those tiny ass paychecks magically dropped into my bank account. So true. I actually live in a town where the police activley try to kick out homeless people. But for the past year theres been this 20 something homeless girl chilling around town. Somebody paid for her to stay in a hotel for a whole month because they felt bad for her. Turns out her grandfather owns frys electronics (used to be a huge chain store). Hes a multi millionaire. Apparently she just would rather use drugs on the street. Even with all that information out people were still willing to lay for food and housing for when that month was up. Its amazing how people could care less about the homeless unless its a young woman.
@@jaimep456Sadly, many homeless are there because of drugs.

Exactly, they choose that life. Anyone who has actually seen hard times and is still here, got themselves out. No government fucking handouts for any of the men either.
For instance, look at the numerous homeless veterans out there).

I was tired of wasting my life and potential. In rehab I started doing the healthy opposite of what I really wanted to do, but on a very small level. If I started big I would always fail. I built up self discipline bit by bit with exercise, working out (very small amounts at first). I also built massive confidence by following through with the small promises I made myself.
When people would offer help or make healthy suggestions I took them. And most importantly I started praying, I didn't believe in a God but I did it anyway just to see. It was a remarkable transformation, something really really worked with the praying. The mess I created was very overwhelming but I was able to claw out little by little. Spent those 4 months working as a housekeeper at minimum wage(7.50an hour) at 25 hours a week. Saved as much as I could for a deposit to rent a house. Shit was rough.
