- Steam locomotives (including triple headers) working hard on the steep grades and 150 year old stone viaducts. One of the world's great preserved steam displays.
Rare to see a double & triple header there. With the latest December fires in 2019, I guess the reopening that was to happen in October is now put back many years. This railway seems cursed in so many ways. For the last 10 years I have had railway friends say to me the Zig Zag will be running in a year. It's the longest one year in history. One of the best Zig Zag video on the site.
Wonderful footage, thank you. I rode on this railway about 15 years ago. I rode in those old red carriages on suburban lines in Brisbane in the seventies. Brisbane had more modern carriages then, too, but these old red carriages were still in use. They ended up on the Lithgow zig-zag because they matched its 3'6" gauge.
Uncle: So originally this line had narrow gauge?
@@jacktattis143 No. Originally it was standard guage 4'8 1/2". Google the History of the Zig Zag Railway, too much for me to explain here.
@@grahamsengineering.2532 The whole lot needs cutting up and scrapping due to global warming climate change.
6:20 perfect
Супер! Люблю паровозы...вспоминаю детство 70 лет назад!
absolutely brilliant - as an ex ZZR member (separated by distance from moving north) this is great
Nostalgic memories from the past. Before its temporary closure, the Brisbane to Gold Coast used these locomotives. Because of the small diameter drivers, the train appeared to be going quite fast. Not so. The old saying was I will walk beside you.
0:47 I like that whistle, it’s sounds so awesome, I’m also gonna use it for 2 new T&F characters I’m making
Truly wonderful and awesome video, Of Queensland built trains working like they used too. And that whistle show with all three of the locomotives driving in sync is a truly wonderful show.
I saw this train right in my very eyes on the way to Lithgow to race the greyhound many years ago. its lovely to see this video, thank you !!!!
Went there recently great day out
Indrukwekkend, heel bijzonder !
Great to look back on this after hearing the news that it will reopen at the end of 2021, if not earlier
Thanks, these shots are from the enthusiast days, 2003 - 2005, if I recall.
i'm from lithgow in the town, zig zag railway back opening soon, will be repair the track "There’s a lot of work to be done upgrade the car park and the toilet
$2.3 million
Zig Zag Railway back on track with $2.3m
for restoration after 2013 bushfire
Beautiful trains and fantastic filming in great locations, well done.
The Zig Zag when built was standard guage. When disbanded due to bypass the rails were ripped up. When the Museum took over most of the rolling stock and rails came from QLD.
Great video, love the steam, the noise and whistles, Garry
Five star video.....Excellent.
Thanks "MPH", much appreciated.
Unsure, this looks very similar to my ''Steam in Australia'' tape, it is Good!
Unless someone has stolen it, it isn't.
My cousin used to be Station Master at Valley Heights
ZZR can't seem to catch a break. Hopefully will be back bigger and better.
Flipping heck! They were giving it some! You can't beat a 3'6" gauge loco for putting on a show. Just the right size! That black Pacific's noisy. Isn't it?
William: I thought NSW was standard gauge
It's standard gauge
NSW standard gauge. Zig Zag Railway narrow gauge. Was standard gauge when built and in NSWGR use.
Great double headed!!
Nice new video thanks like it.
Sorry, don't get that. I've had a lot of comments over a lot of years but this is the weirdest. What looks fake?
Been on it - a great day out - be fun to play with the 1:1 train set - shame the fires destroyed a lot of the rollingstock :(
Awesome video
They are coming back
Fantastic
Thankyou jet936.
Will we ever see this again?
excellent vids what dates is the footage from ?
GREAT to hear.
My Grandfather Henry Edgar Ryves ex Manager of Sir Alfred Herbert's Yorkshire Tool and Steel who immigrated to Australia with steel importing business grub staked by his friend Harry Hawker (Edgar Ryves and Hawker ) was Engineering draftsman for Colonial Rail and blue prints I saw as a child may be with family members along with blueprints along with blueprints for Frazer Nash chain drive Sports Tourer etcetera .
surprised they don't use Shay or Climax Locos for that run.
They would be too slow.
So that's were Thomas was came from
and 1049's whistle
i voluntered their, same it closed :(
I think different shades of blue for each carriage would be fun plus !.
listen to those flanges squeal
108 doesn't sound healthy at 4:53!
The blue loco looks like it came from darjeeling railway.
it is a ex Queensland Government Railways DD17 loco class no 1049
@John Bias
Neva Eva! DHR is far smaller than the blue loco of the ZigZag, DHR runs on smaller rails, afaik 600 mm gauge, the locos only have 2 driving axles with tiny wheels, they arent much longer than the cabin with the coalbunker of 1049, the footplate is a normal step away from the street and to fire them you need a shovel thats normally suited well for your coal stove at home...... And, of course - the DHR-locos are saddle tanks....
;)
The eagles
Shame its all over now........
How the hell is video fake?
is there something wrong with you?
clearly there is.
its not fake
Rugged country and you can see why it took 30 years to find a way over
looks EXTREMELY fake
its not, look up Zig Zag railway on google
