Because punk was macho-aggressive it was a bad era for shorts. You notice that when you were an older boy, which is always culturally unfair for shorts especially in Britain, coinciding with the punk era. It grates when folks in shorts, including the older Johnny Rotten often in his interviews, talk punk without ever mentioning that.
