Hello...Today I fixed my antenna cable that my dog had chewed in to. I am a widow with no one to help me with little things like this so had to find something I could to that didn't cost a lot. This didn't cost me a penny was easy and worked like a dream. My repair is not as pretty as your but now I can watch TV again! Thank you so much for your video.
This is the best DIY video ever. Everythig properly set out before filming commenced. No fiddling and fumbling! No rambling and repetitive instructions! No moving in and out of camera range. Narrated clearly and to the point. Thank you.
I cant begin to tell you how much I appreciate this video, and the fact that you showed how to do it with out special tools ( which I dont have).I have now subscribed to your channel and looking forward to seeing more ...I like your accent! Thanks again.
You’re video saved me While digging, I accidentally cut the coax cable that supplies phone & internet to my house. Next service call from cable company to fix the damaged wire is 5 days out! Then I found this video, followed his instructions, and it worked!! Got all my services back
Purchased a new TV antenna last week - the dog made short work of the cable yesterday! I thought I'd have to buy another (expensive) one. Luckily I came across your excellent, and easy to follow advise. Thank you very much Paul.
Yep it works. Really great video. Used gloves as well just in case. No signal loss..... Tidy and professional finish.... Couldn't wait 2 days for Amazon for the couplers 😂
Okay, trying this now on our sailboat to extend the cable from our depth sounder to the display. Taking this to a new level! If it works, you are saving us a day of work and quite some money!
@@antonioornelas3391 He has another great video where he solders the cables and uses heat shrink. Went for that and it works like a charm! ruclips.net/video/j_76Pw-2SSg/видео.html
So glad i found this ! Cable crimper does not work , ( that i own ) so i had wire just taped into the connector . Ill be back tomorrow after I try this :) ty
I tried this yesterday , IT DID NOT WORK !! I was so angry , I have an outdoor antenna wired to an old dish network wire , it works great , but not as instructed wire to wire . SO disappointed , its a fail from me
This comment from india. You are helping me alot ,thanks for halping me , my tv cable wire broke in middle , I am try all method but hi don't working you are giving a new idea , Thanks bro 👍👍👌
Excellent DIY video. Thank you! My 90yo father-in-law just ran over his cable with the lawnmower and as it provides his internet and phone as well as TV, he's not wanting to wait for Comcast to get around to a service call, nor, with a monthly bill of over $200, is he able to hire anyone else to fix it, so I'm heading out today to see what I can do! If it works out, I'll add to this post.
Driveway Dudes, thanks for the video. This will help to do a "temporary" repair or for someone without the tools to install the proper connectors to barrel together. One suggestion to ensure weather proofing, start the insulation tape in the middle, wrap to past one end, then reverse and wrap just past the other end and then reverse again to wrap and end in the middle. I was a Field Wireman in the USMC and this was taught to us to ensure water proofing. Also, never ever use the cheap HFT tape or you'll regret it. I've never thought to splice a cable this way, so I wonder how it affects the impedance of the coax.
You're welcome. It would be best to order/purchase the correct fittings and insulation/sealants as soon as you can but in the meantime this should give you some signal.
This worked for us out in the yard after a worker accidentally ran over the cable. Thank you! Cheap fix until the cable company can come run new cable.
V2.0 For those only want to do it once 1-Solder the copper core without any knots. An inch if solder is plenty strong. 2-Cut the sleeve you removed from the core on one side (when viewed from above, its like the letter C
Strange. You have to make sure the centre core/conductor is isolated/insulated from the outer conductor/braiding. The outer conductor/braiding needs to be neatly positioned evenly around the inner conductor insulation so it can act as a shield to enable it to pass or return signal. The foil is used to help the braid shielding. Doing it this way will ensure a signal. We have extended cable this way and were able to receive hd signal. Hope this helps
@@DrivewayDudes I tried your method twice and was careful, but now think my cable is just too old - as the white inner core was stuck to the copper wire.. So I've decided to replace all 20m of outdoor cable & and get a new Aerial. Hopefully no joins in cable will fix it.
Thanks , u saved me £30. Tahst how much sky would have charged for a call out. Thumbs up !!. I better cancel that call out now. And they said they will come in two weeks time looool.
Hi there thanks for your the information to connect the cables which we did successfully We have all channels except we can’t get any channels 10 Can you tell us what to do to get the channel
Can you use the solder heat shrink but connectors on the actual reconnect and/or the insulation? Also, can you heat shrink wrap after? Thank-you in Advance 😊
@Driveway Dudes Thank you so much!! Also, I bought new wire to splice to my old ones, (the other end of mine was too damaged), and the insulation is gold in color but my insulation is silver, is this ok to put together?
@@dlh0419 Ideally the centre core is copper wire to give better conductivity for signal/data transfer. Covering that is the dielectric which can be a medium density foam or honeycomb plastic. Depending on the quality of the cable the next layer can be a foil thin metal shielding of either copper or aluminium. That is then covered by a braided shielding or screen which is then covered by the outer insulation. Hope this helps
I thought I was the only one who ever did this. Somebody should do the measurements. I suspect a carefully constructed splice like this one will have less loss than a couple of RG twist on connectors with a barrel coupler between them.
Excellent. I'm going to reconnect my cable tomorrow, I just bodged it before to get a signal from the roof aerial to my TV downstairs through the cable the builder built into the house. I'm getting a digital signal but no HD signal, obviously because I didn't do it this way that is why. Many thanks and have a nice Xmas 🎄
It's a DIY fix and is more designed as an emergency/temporary measure until you get the suitable fittings or have your cable/satellite/broadband company call to you. If you are not a subscriber to a company and the coax cable is yours then the decision is entirely up to you
The western union or lineman splice is designed for a more permanent joint that would be put under stress. Where no soldering is possible or available, this video shows a quick fix temporary working joint.
Your skin secretes substances and oils that are acidic to certain material compositions and over time cause corrosion. It may also coat the material and reduce contact so could act as a semi insulator. Bending, twisting, compressing, etc would be less harmful than adding an element of acid. This video as explained in the description is a temporary fix. It would of course be best to use the suitable connectors to join the cable if possible
hi sir, is there a length limitation when connecting rg6 cable because after i tried to connect a broken wired 100m rg6 (dvr to cctv camera), it still not working
Do not do this. I promise you it will give you issues. Just call spectrum and have them fix it right. If you do this and then call them out to fix it right I promise they will be laughing all the way down the road as they leave.
Please explain how touching the core messes up the signal, and how it would recover if messesd up? I get a shock touching the core during repair today.

That’s why RUclips is great, you can learn just about anything for free. I’ve learned a lot about working on my own car from RUclips

Glad you liked it!!
God bless him! It really worked. Took me about 30 mins and my internet was back in business! If I could hug him I would. Thanks sir!
Thank you so much! Worked like a charm. Avoided the installation fees for my internet by splicing the old line back together. Brilliant!
Had a tree take down my wire, and this helped me get it rigged up until the cable people eventually wander over. Thanks so much!
I don't have connectors so your splice video is appreciated. Thanks.
Its amazing that this worked! I'm eternally grateful as Comcast won't come out to replace the line for a week. This had me up within an hour!
Better than the "correct" method of F-type screw fittings with a joiner. They never crimp correctly buy this works. Thank you.

Potentially useful, but I just enjoyed learning how to do it for the sake of knowing how to do it.

What if you don't have an extra foil?
Will it still work if you just cover with the tape?

Yes

I would joint the center conductors together in a neat "Western Union splice" and solder them before wrapping with electrical tape.
The western union or lineman splice is designed for a more permanent joint that would be put under stress.
Where no soldering is possible or available, this video shows a quick fix temporary working joint.
I think the point of the video was to help people who only have the most basic tools and knowledge mate.
thanks!
So the center conductor is too sensitive for skin but we can tie it in a knot and compress it?

After the center core has being twisted together, the joint should be soldered, before applying the insulation .
Or use 2 connectors and a barrel then u wont waste signal lol
Nice
Thank you. Just about to copy you. Take care
i ask how do I connect with out connectors and got beat over the head with relays "You have to use a connector" :)
If you have connectors then yes, use them.

Is it safe from corrotion?
In time it may corrode over time. This is a diy and not a permanent fix
Dude, I'm cutting my cable cord right now brb
