I still love it too. That’s the crazy thing, canon made a brilliant move with the M50.
to be honest, i'm starting to think canon might have been the wrong brand to back, and maybe sony would have been a better choice. I know the lens choice on canon is meant to be good, but i feel like they aren't a very trustworthy brand now. They've done a few things now that seem really kinda shady. After my M50 i might switch over perhaps.

After being a canon lover for so long I was really heart broken by the canon m50 ii. It is time for me to switch to E-mount. Seems like overall they are the best system when comes to dynamic range , 3rd party and oem lens selection....the only thing stopping me till now was the exclusion of flip-out screen....now sony has started to incorporate flip out screens in their cameras.
On the same boat here. I first looked onto EOS R. Then, seen some new releases on there. Turned my head toward the A7 lineup. A7C is looking very very tempting. Canon just might have sold me Sony.

I'm very disappointed by the release of the m50 m2, but at least they didn't hammer the price point up waaay high. I think the best way to look at this is as a M50 2020 model. Kinda like a car from 2019 may not change much to the 2020 model but they use the same name. If that makes sense :P
It's not like the mark 2 is gonna be worse, they did fix the clean hdmi, which is a game changer in terms of monitor use and wireless streaming might be cool for some users. And who doesn't love improved autofocus?
The biggest issue for me as an m50 owner, is the value for money.
For those who already own an m50, the upgrade to the mark 2 seems minor, especially when other companies offers more in terms of spec and lenses. The m50 is a money-machine for Canon and I agree with what you say in the video. For a hobbyist I would still recommend the old m50, the new mark 2 updates are really more for a prosumer on a budget who loves Canon.

It's hard to say how the Mark 2 will affect the price of the old M50, but unless you need a camera here and now, then I would at least wait until black friday next month :)
The old M50 is still a solid choice for those starting out, small youtube studios and light traveling.
An m50 (with the Kitlens) combined with a softbox is great value for money.
But it's always good to do a bit of research. Set your budget and look around. The m-series is not as future proof as Sony's apsc bodies (a6000 lineup) but Canon is more intuitive and looks "better" without any need for grading or color correction.

I looked and the Sony a6000 is running for around $600 as well.
I'm also looking at the Sony Zv1 , I just want a smaller camera where the learning curves aren't super high, I can just open it and autofocus, blue and face tracking work, my budget is $600 range.
I also want the option for interchangeable lense since I film variety of different stuff as well.
@@Carritube No problem. The m50 was and still is my first camera, I was considering sony, but at the time I prefered what Canon was offering. If you are experienced with a camera, then Sony allows for more room to grow, but Canon wins in user experience. The m50 got great colors without editing, a fully articulating, fully manual touchscreen and a clean menu system.
If I had to start over today with my current experience, then I would choose Sony and their E-mount system. That being said, Canon makes amazing lenses and cameras, it's mostly their late decision making that put people off. Like not including zebras for exposure, the histogram disappearing, no auto video with locked shutter and so on. Canon is stripping functionality from their cameras to make them easier to use. Sony jams everything in, which is great, but a bit scary as a beginner.
Anyways, no matter what you choose, you will get a solid camera :)
I totally agree with you! People who just want a compact mirrorless camera won’t care that it’s not an upgrade. I also have a theory for why Canon did this. I made a video about it. It’s on my channel for whomever want to watch it.
100% right the MK1 when launched felt like a good upgrade to M range with new processor and 4k (albeit with the associated problems) and I love mine but Canon could have done a firmware update for MK1 owners and continued to sell them it is after all an entry level camera and would have been in my opinion a better PR exercise for them keeping existing users happy and still moving new units

I totally agree with you! I recently uploaded a new video where I talk about using the M50 with the Speed Booster and compare it to a full frame such as the EOS R...and towards the end of the video I expressed my thoughts about the M50 mark ii and...in short...I said that Canon, with the mark ii is not targeting beginner movie makers, enthusiasts on a budget and vloggers...but rather...soccer moms and teenagers who want to upgrade from their phone or might want to buy a very expensive webcam (that's the orientation of the new features)...Definitely not an upgrade for us...Great video as usual!
I totally agree , if you don’t have one , it maybe ok to get the Mark ii , but for us m50 owners, definitely not worth the upgrade. Was really looking forwards to maybe upgrading , but for now I will stick with my current m50.

As a canon M50 owner, There's is no way I'm buying this camera. This is not really an upgrade. I was hoping they would take away the 2.56x crop at 4k and give you the dual pixel autofocus but they didn't. I never stream so those options are use less to me. They had to make this for new users I agree. the M6 would be a better option. thanks for sharing my friend. I read the specs before I watched this video and was not impressed.
The rumors were true in one aspect - Canon is killing the M line with this embarrassing release. Brand new user headed to the Sony ecosystem now.
About the lenses, their line is looking pretty sad. Sigma already has lenses out for a year better than what they’re offering later or even next year. Like f2, really canon?
I agree but Canon sacrificed innovation, and in the long term that's how you loose customers.
If that new Fuji matches the sub 800USD price and the specs we didn't get with the M50 Mark II I think they'll rightly drop Canon.

Its an upgrade which they could mostly have done on a firmware update. If they offered a "pay upgrade " offer I would look at it, depending on the price of course.

This update was so disapointing and got me angry that I'm ready to switch to some other brand who respects it's customers. Fuji seems good at the moment with coming up releases. I just hate when companies fool their customers like this. Just dont release new camera if theres nothing new and which could have been just a handshake for old customers by giving this upgrade for them as a firmware update.

I called Canon and spoke to a tech.. he told me that autofocus is greatly improved in the mark2. Told me that in 4k, they added eye detection. If that's true, that's a big upgrade. I haven't seen that anywhere else, but that's exactly why I called Canon directly, and this is what I was just told. So.... I wonder if that's true. I'm assuming it is. ;) If so, I'm buying a mk2. Probably. lol. I may still grab an original M50, get a Viltrox speed booster and a great lens, like maybe a 22mm or the 11-22, and be good to go. Hmmm...
I love my M50. The M50 Mark II makes no sense. Just give us a real competitor to the Sony A6400, but with the M50 side flipscreen. Done.
If they would have done an M6 mkii in a M50 body for $899 I would have picked it up in a heartbeat!

I upgraded to the M6 MK II from my M50, I was expecting an m50 mkii to be a copy paste from that camera but not from itself. I’ve been looking at the R6 but something in my head keeps telling me to move away from canon all together.
so glad i went with sony apsc, and yet sony apsc lineup is disappointing but not to this degree... at leasst i can use my apsc lenses in full frame for video

Okay, can someone help me? Lol. From different videos, it looks like the M50 is a decent starter camera for real estate photos. I currently have an old Nikon D7100 that I've never really picked up and used. I want something lightweight, nothing crazy expensive, but I don't know what's a good camera for both video and photo. I don't want the base, but I also don't need a professional grade. I even have an actual video camera (Sony fdr-ax100), but again would like just one unit 😂 Anyone have suggestions? I'm open to any brand. I know very little about cameras and have watched various videos, but still am not sure.
Canon needed to save room for the crop frame Eos r in their lineup. The m50 2 is still a good camera for the money and this makes the original m50 an even better camera for the money. Canon now has a capable camera for basically every budget. Let’s face it, the current camera marketplace is all about survival (Olympus). I looked hard at purchasing into the Eos m system but saw the lack of lenses and with no path to upgrade to full frame as detrimental. Your channel has been more focused on technique rather than gear even though many of the titles have m50 in them. I really appreciate that and have learned from them.
I am very disappointed with what they have done. The biggest thing they did was add "Mark ii" to the name. It still has extra cropped 4k with crippled auto focus. It still has old battery that can't be charged/powered by remote USB power source and doesn't last long (I sold mine after it died while I was reeling in a personal best fish). It still has a recording limit. It's still good enough for the 1080 vlogger that doesn't mind being a little blurry on RUclips because the 1080 RUclips codec/bitrate eats the video (unlike 4k videos which uses the "good" codec/bitrate). You should experiment with up-scaling your 1080 recordings to 4k then upload them to RUclips (edit in 1080 timeline, export as 4k video, upload 4k video). I am just curious to see what it would look like from an M50. I've seen others do it on other cameras and I cant tell a difference on my 5k iMac screen.
I know, as someone that even if not in money in time has investing in the M system I am very disappointed.
I have upscaled my last two videos and there is definitely something to that.

You hit the nail on the head. Camera enthusiasts are a minority and the greater population who buys cameras for casual photo/video won’t care, but it’s them who draw canon more money than us.
On the contrary, they did bend to our will when it came to 24fps on the previous apps-c line up. So who knows, maybe we can still complain and make change.
M50 was Canon’s entry level mirrorless APSC and it remained just that. Our expectations were probably unrealistic.
What do you think about Sony A7C? I would not have looked elsewhere as an avid M50 user unless they have made this terrible move.
I seems to be an A7iii made for vlogging. If I were to go full frame today I would get that one or the Panasonic S5.

I actually don't understand all that brand preference. Hell... I just want the camera that fits my needs. I do not care if it is Canon, sony, Fuji or whatever. I admit that Canon and Sony are the only brands I actually like. But just due to the cameras they make. Now arguably Canon did mess up a few cameras lately but so what. They don't care. They won't disappear due to it. They will only make another camera soon that will fit some needs. I still believe the Black Magic is still the best prosumer Camera out there.

I was really looking forward to an upgrade that would get me excited to upgrade from the M50 to the M50 MKII but this isn't it. I would think some simple things like upgrading battery life, USB C charging, and the Digic 10 processor would not have been so hard to do. This is sadly disappointing.

Love my M50 and was gonna get the mk2 as a decent upgrade. Now I am just disappointed and after being a life long Canon shooter, I may just look into other systems. I specifically sold my bulky EOS setup since I travel a lot. Don’t want a huge R5 or R6 but would love to move forward, not get a firmware upgrade as a new camera 😳

This camera is up to the 2020 standard of major disappointment... They could have changed many things we asked for but no... I'm definitely keeping my m50 but I'll be moving to Fuji next!

Both the mark 2 and the Mark 1 have 4K at 23.97p with a 2.7 crop and bad Auto focus.

I've bought a M50 because it was all that I could afford and I feel offended when I see this.
They downgraded the AF, the video modes and all the functions of the camera "BECAUSE CASUAL SHOOTERS DON'T CARE".
Well, I DO. I am damn mad that I didn't go with a Sony camera. At leaste they don't dumb down their cameras (excluding A6100 and its lack of PP) My main problem was the price of lenses. And Canon lenses can be found used for ultra low prices. Sony lenses are more expensive even though their bodies are so damn better.
Instead of making a great little camera, they made a little replacement for those point-and-shoots that nobody buys anymore...

well, actually you have made a mistake because it's nice to have the latest for only $20 bucks more but this is a such a disappointing release for canon, it literally just a software update. nothing is improve even the same digic processor meaning they can release the same 1080p 120fps to the current model

The Crowley Crew I have a Panasonic G9 as well as the M50. In the last firmware update, Panasonic gave much of the video features of the GH5 for free. The M50 Mk II is just a poor firmware upgrade cynically designed to make money. They should have given it for free and developed a proper upgrade with 4K and functioning DPAF as a minimum.
Love my M50 but I'm jumping ship. What a let down. Sony is King right now with the Mirrorless cameras.
