    The mini slow cooker is the best thing for cooking steel cut oats. To have hot steel cut oats waiting for you on a cold winter morning is a little bit of heaven. 2cups of steel cut oats to 4 cups of water. I set mine before I go to bed, around 10:30 pm, on the low setting and it’s ready when I wake up around 6:30 am. It makes enough for 4 servings. If there are leftovers, I microwave it the next morning.

      There’s other factors to consider. What’s the coffee they used, brew methods, temperature of the water. For immersion brewing, cheap heavily roasted canephora, it’s almost a waste to use anything other than a blade grinder. With espresso though, grind size matters a whole lot more.

    something i've learned after many attempts at different grinders, if you're going to plan on using the grinder for multiple different ingredients, cleaning the burr type grinders will drive you made, and make you order doordash, stick with the blade. if you're only going to use it to grind coffee only, then a burr will work.

    I did fine for years using the Krups grinder. It definitely didn't last me as long as others got out of theirs and the replacement I bought had enough annoyances that I started to look for a burr grinder. I haven't been lucky with any pour-over techniques, and my (previously recommended Best Buy) Bonavita drip machine made a great cup of coffee, but I gotta say that even out of that hands-off brewing method I noticed a HUGE difference compared to the blade grinder. That being said, I was very happy with the Krups. It's just that the burr grinder makes it so much easier when you need to grinder coarser or finer. But that's just me.

    I have a vintage cast iron coffee grinder I also use for grinding pepper. (After cleaning.) i adjust the grind with a screw on top of the handle. I love it for both. I use an old fashioned stove top percolator so I want a coarser grind. I can also adjust the grind on my pepper from coarse to fine. I paid less than $25 for mine too. Sometimes knew isn’t necessarily better.

    Re: blade grinders for coffee, I think it's also important to specify hat they are fine for auto drip machine. Some brewing methods require uniform ground size to produce good coffee. In addition, the roast level of the beans should also be specified, as the hardness of the beans depends on the roast

    I have blade grinder for spices that is pretty easy to clean, and burr grinder for coffee that I got at Aldi a few years ago for under $20. I works like a charm and is so easy to clean. About not having grill marks on your sandwich, to me that just means all the bread was toasted, not just the bread that had good contact with the raised surface that makes the lines. I have two mini waffle makers by Dash, and they are holding up just fine, and make a good waffle. I mostly use them for savory waffles, like with cheese and tuna.

    If you need a spare burner purchase a induction burner. So much safer and more powerful. It’s more expensive but you can still get a good one for under $100

      With an induction burner you can safely put on a pot of stock and go to work without fear of risking a fire. That's a game changer.

      I have an induction burner and love it, but it hardly fits in the “great kitchen gadgets under $25” category. And many folks on a tight budget may not already own induction compatible cookware.

    I think this is true, America is one of the last countries to still use natural corks. Even synthetic corks are being used less because they just end up in landfills. The newer two piece twist off lids work just as well.

    Something to think about with portable gas stoves: You shouldn't use them in confined spaces and/or indoors. I have a two burner Coleman camping stove I'd never use indoors because of fumes and Carbon Monoxide. And just about all gas stoves are going to have this problem. With electric, the only fumes you really need to worry about are the ones when you burn your food.

    • @HH-le1vi
      @HH-le1vi 5 месяцев назад

      If a gas stove puts off carbon monoxide, you have a bad stove. Gas stoves have been used indoors for decades without anything major happening.

    A corkscrew with a docking station? Do I keep it in the elevator that's in my bathroom? The Krups grinder works a treat though. The pulsing technique helps as does shaking the unit while it grinds. You'll develop a rhythm for your normal amount and an tell by the units vibrations when your ready.

    There’s an argument for electric bottle openers for those with arthritis or limited grip strength. For everyone else that drinks wine, learn how to use a waiter’s corkscrew and avoid buying a gadget that has a battery that can’t be replaced and will go to the landfill in a couple of years. ATK even has a video on using the corkscrew.

    You can get burr grinders for 100€ (I bought a Svart for that 4 years ago). Was a big improvement from my blade grinder and worth every penny.
    And for occasional cup while traveling I bought a manual commandante grinder which was more than twice the costs of the Svart…
