How have I lived 64 years without ever hearing of this style of singing or more importantly of Anna-Marie Hefele? I am in sorrow for my past ignorance, but my day right now is brightened. Thank you. Truly.
The original song - very gentle and very dreamy - is by Brian Eno, on his 1977 album 'Before and After Science'. Giving credit where credit is due ;-)

This is like a superpower... I can only imagine what a chorus of polyphonic singers would sound like. Especially with a natively polyphonic piece, similar to the Messe de Notre Dame. Just amazing...

Try listening to Mongolian choirs, there it's very common to use overtones when throat singing.

I find the effect of throat singing so evocative of what's happening in this lyric.. two simultaneous tones, inextricably linked and yet produced differently and on their own paths. It's arresting, and brilliant, and I keep returning over the years to listen to this performance because of it.

I clicked on it expecting it to be a different song with the same name...very pleasant surprise, great cover that manages to sound even more Eno-esque than the original.
What a nicely crafted song! Otherworldly and haunting. I don't know how many times I've watched it in one day, but this video is one that I will continue to come back to. The best piece of "contemporary" polyphonic singing that I've seen.
