This will sound fresh 200 years from now. Children haven't been born that will be hearing, learning and possibly playing this music hundreds of years from today. Davis will be remembered as the Mozart of jazz.
John Coltrane was a musical genius in his own right. I don't think anyone sounded better playing with Miles Davis than John Coltrane did. What a pair!!!

Terry, I replayed that 3 times, and no doubt, it's a flub, but when you're Miles, there are no flubs, just "accents or flavors" I reckon. Takes a horn player to even notice, I guess he didn't want to ruin the mood for a retake. Brilliant song regardless.
I first heard milestones in the summer of 1959 when I was in bed on a Saturday night with my radio plugged in to Radio Luxemburg where we all thought it was all recorded. I had extended my aerial all around the room to try and get the best reception. That evening was almost perfect reception and the introducers were Peter Haig and Bery Reid. All was perfect until the saxophone solo when the reception started to falter as it always did at some time so I missed some of it but I loved it and this was my introduction to Miles Davis and in my view he never did anything as good again. People who were not around then never knew the excitement of Radio Luxemburg. It was the only pop commercial radio station and everyone was so gentlemanly then. You never even minded the adverts, They were never overlong. A sad cry from what you hear today.
There's nothing better than being home alone with my cat on a rainy weekend with no appointments, lighting up a joint and pursuing my hobbies while music like this is playing.

Jazz perfection. What else can one say? The most lyrical musician ever. The way he communicated his emotions and feelings through his trumpet is pure genius.
His playing on all the labums of this era including kind of blue is more polished and pleasant than coltranes, but he didn't lean into the modal thing as hard. Coltrane was always at the forefront.
Cannonball Adderley, in my humbled opinion, out finesses Coltrane on this track. The off rhythm, the bending/squealing of notes, the twisted timing, then returning to syncopation. Ingenious.
When I was in junior high school, I learned about Miles Davis on the local radio program "Midnight Jazz Report." I also learned the word personel at that time.

When I listen to music, I like things that evoke visuals regardless of genre, such as classical and jazz. Miles is worth it. He doesn’t necessarily explain difficult things. He may be doing difficult things, but he does his job in a catchy and cool way

All philly is doing is playing a swing beat with a crosstick on beat 4 for the entirety of this song. Im assuming youre talking bout the rest of the album though because yeah he really kills it on some of the other songs

At 3:18 .... Coltrane is really listening to Miles. He picks up where miles left off...almost as if hes continuing miles solo. They both were in their modal mindset at this time. I wish musicians nowadays were like this instead of just taking turns waiting to show off instead of listening to each other.

In my opinion the mid to late 50’s to the late 60’s had the greatest Jazz in its history.
Agree my favorite jazz period is around the 50s/60s.
West Coast Jazz, Bebop, and Bossa Nova has to be my favorite subgenres out of these decades.
