Welcome to one huge, glorious rabbit hole!
I love Electric Light Orchestra very much, they have very varied music. This is from their 1979 album, Discovery, an album where they explored a little bit with disco, like in this song, and a lot of disco music has a lot of very prominent strings, so it was not really uncommonfor that era, but on this song everything was executed really well 🥰
Great song,fine album.Big hit in 1979.
ELO and Jeff Lynne is great. No further words needed. Extremely talented.
One of my most fave bands.'I'M ALIVE'/'ALL OVER THE WORLD'/'ROCK N ROLL IS KING'/''DON'T BRING ME DOWN'/ 'XANADU' fab duet with OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN are some great choices for a start to react.
ELO is a perfect group for you both to go into considering your combined appreciation for different musical instrumentation, suffice to say many of their songs for that reason will blow your minds and can't wait for your reactions to them.
You'll surely love their collab with legend Olivia Newton John('70s/early '80s top female singer) in the smash hit' Xanadu' for the next one.But they also got so many goodies. This was the first album i had bought by them and then followed them intensively.
'Shine A Little Love', is another great song from this era of ELO.
The album this was from is slap-bang in the middle of the disco era, and ELO, naturally, felt they could show their prowess by making music that would appeal to the current trend of music. And, I think they did it so well. It's instantly recognisable as ELO, but it's a kind of, 'ELO does disco', thing going on.
Now that's real music.Loved that you both really enjoyed this.(I had similar enthusiastic reaction when i first heard this).
"hearing first time last train to Landon" .... Nice jock ...... i like this
I love this song. we used to stay near the radio waiting for it to get played on. Thanks for the reaction. Nostalgic.
You should do ELO's Tightrope. The mixing of rock/pop and classical music is awesome.
ELO would definitely be a rewarding group for you to keep checking out .. The orchestral elements ,the arrangements and the many very catchy melodies will combine to give you both plenty of interest and enjoyment .. If you haven't already done so, "Living Thing" is essential listening .. Cheers, Wayne
He's definitely react to more, one of the founders and primary vocals and writer in the group. Jeff Lynne is an amazing songwriter and some of his creations in ELO are just forever eternal classic in rock pop history... Here's a little trivia now. It's, ELO did the song Xanadu with Olivia Newton-John and they actually have a demo with just them. It's a lot slower than the original but they did it with her for the movie soundtrack and it's like a cult classic hit!
The lyrics are great. Can happen to anybody when you find the right person in t your life’s stunning
Get your sequinned vests, bell-bottom slacks and roller skates on, kids! It’s roller disco time! This was the height of the disco era with some iconic albums: The Bee-Gees (Saturday Night Fever), ABBA (Voulez-Vous), the Village People (You Can’t Stop the Music), Donna Summer (Bad Girls). For some of the best of ELO, check out the Xanadu soundtrack!
@German Morawski As well as KISS(I was made for loving you) and Blondie(Heart of Glass)Disco hype was unavoidable and overwhelming.
Next ELO song to check out is "All Over The World" (flash mob video).
Cool that you react to these oldies! I'm 61 and I actually did not know the name of this song before I started watching RUclips. Mind you, back at those days all echo effects were analog. (Well, someone could call the TDA1022 bucket brigade IC digital b/c it's digitally controlled.)
Jeff Lynne has an incredibly powerful voice, and yet it's so soft and soulful. This is disco music at its best. Here's another legendary band that began in the 60's "Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale, Live in Denmark 2006" be prepared to be 🤯blown away 🔥🎶🤗
So glad you two reacted to this song. Its one of my fav from that period of time. So nostalgic!
1979 album when the music was great
You must do the amazing ballad song, Telephone Line. Soooooo great !
Agreed! And the lyrics...it was the days before call waiting and voice mail 🙂
Yeah, they are my favourite band. Jeff Lynne is a genius. Love all the stuff happening in the background and the way songs build and develop as they progress.
Check out Atomic Kittens Be With You, which interpolates the chorus of this ELO song.
They wrote and sing on Olivia Newton John's hit song Xanadu. Check it out.
I remember first time i heard this on the radio(summer 1980)when i was a kid and thought 'wow!that's a bomb!'Whole Xanadu soundtrack is gold.
ELO’s disco phase
Try Across the border from out of the blue. You won't regret it guys!!
ELO telephone line live at Wembley stadium is amazing.
Enjoying that disco huh! 😉👍❤️
Ahhh, ELO, one of the greatest bands ever! This is a good one. Definite disco feel. I love Turn to Stone and Telephone Line 🙂
Shout out to Richard Tandy on the keyboards!
Taking the first train to Landon was an helish expiriance to me couze my ticket was for evning !!! it's really feels like Hell
Marissa you are my favorite reactor in youtube!
Oh wow, thank you! This made my day :)
@@marissa6805 You have make my day dear too, always love to watch you! Have all the best in new 2024 and thank you!
The bass!
"Oh no! Is it over already?"
Is an appropriate reaction whenever listening to ELO.
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius.
John Lennon himself called ELO the 'sons of the beatles'. His multi faceted complex arrangements will I'm sure be greatly appreciated by you both. From 'Mr Blue Sky' - often voted the happiest song of all time in polls (along with Queen's 'Dont Stop Me Now') to the haunting and melodic 'Strange Magic'( a personal favourite of mine) there are too many great tracks to mention. To get a feeling of the genius of Lynne please try to react to something from the Hyde Park 2014 concert - maybe 'Livin' Thing'. BTW he was 67 at the time of that concert. Enjoy.
I also love a lot 'Twilight' and 'Secret Messages'.
@@christianoazzuro6711 Got the single to that last one and then bought the whole'Secret messages' album which is my favourite,Each song i love it.
I was on the first train to Landon, from Wakefield, so i was tortured on this train for "wrong tiked"
always leave em wantn mre!
The best
More ELO!!! Do the studio version of, "Evil Woman", you'll love it!
I Love❤
They created good sounds are other gems of the music.
This song is from their album, Discovery... Disco-very.... Very Disco... :)
My mistake, i took first train from Wakefield to Landon
Confusion is a favorite of mine off this album
Hope you guys jump on the ELO bandwagon as much as you did ABBA. The albums "Eldorado", "New World Record" and "Out of the Blue" are must listen albums. The song on this album ("Discovery") that always makes me smile - and is sure to put a smile on your face too - is "Shine a Little Love". Keep up the good work you two.
Atomic kitten made a song called "be with you" where they copied the sound and style of this tune.
Richard Tandy coined the phrase Disco......... Very.
125 million views on YT…..and counting.
Both get your earphones on you’re missing all the orchestration in the background 😊
Give a listen to Ma Ma Ma Belle, if you haven't done it already.
Please do telephone line
Jeff Lynne taking a slice of the Disco pie. Very well excecuted (couldn't expect anything less from Jeff), easy to listen to. But being an ELO afficionado: it's not their best work. Not even close.
Mr Blue Sky, please!
For once, I agree with that suggestion, although reactions to that song are so common it seems to be some kind of "rite of passage" for youtube reactors. Then again, as they thought this was too short, maybe this can be another chance to get a reaction to the _entire_ _Concerto For A Rainy Day_ - but of course that would just blow their minds to subatomic pieces... :-)
I doubt they dare risk that. Even though they seem to not be using proper stereo Hi-fi sound equipment but ... laptop speakers? Or worse, smartphone speakers???
Anyway, guys, if you read your comments, consider this a CHALLENGE: get two sets of quality headphones and do side three of the double album "Out Of The Blue"(1977), which is a suite called _Concerto For A Rainy Day_ consisting of four songs:
1."Standin' in the Rain"4:20
2."Big Wheels"5:10
3."Summer and Lightning"4:13
4."Mr. Blue Sky"5:05
Total length:18:48
If you do so, you'll find yourself in a very special and exquisite group of just a handful of youtube reactors who have actually done that.
Your sound quality needs to be improved. Try wearing headphones for a start.
lots strings in disco musak
I'm not sure if this was the right song for you guys to go into reacting to. I feel something like 'Living Thing" or " Shine A Light"would have been way better or even "All Over The World "would have been better to react to first than this song. Never been a fan of this song really to me. Honest
