- Tan Madonna, a surf film directed by artist/surfer/musician Alex Knost featuring performances from a diverse cast of like-minded contemporaries; Michael February, Lee Ann Curren, Harry Bryant & Karina Rozunko. Locations include Baja Mexico, Southern France, Australia & Indonesia.
The film was documented using a variety of mediums, HD Digital, Super 16mm & Super 8mm film creating a high contrast collage of the film’s content. A dream like soundscape accompanies the film from a live recording made on location from a performance by Alex & Lee Ann Curren.

I’m in awe, this is some of the best surfing I have ever seen! so much creative styles and maneuvers. A real eye opener, absolutely amazing.

Always have loved, or at least appreciated Knost's work. From running a conceptual art center (Costa Mesa Conceptual Art Center) with awesome content and welcoming community, to his own style of stretched out music. It's annoying being a surfer and true experimental artist if you don't fit into the goofball surfer art world of wave photography and wave paintings and always being judged by the surf world for not fitting in enough, and always being judged by the art world for being a surfer. Glad things keep working out for him and his recognition as an artist. especially excited about his new band Glitterburst wth Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth and more recently Body/Head.
I don't really know why Gordon would bother hanging out with another guitarist wanting to stick things under the strings of a Jaguar and make esoteric washed out noises. Been there done that kinda thing! If Mr. Knost can make a living doing his art and surfing then good luck to him though! For mine, the whole vibe was a bit dark and felt a little contrived, but then somewhere around 16:40 he fades the bowl on that right-hander and manages not to get lipped in the scone and you have to say: well surfed.

Watched this with my wife. She didn't know who Alex was. Half way through the film she asked "Is he fucking Hoodini?" Then I watched her head explode another dozen times.
