From everything I've been reading you're supposed to learn the radicals individually and once you have an understanding of what each radical means it's easier to put them together to figure out the meaning of the whole kanji character.
Congratulations to everyone who completed their 20 day Japanese Kana challenge! And to those who believe that less and less people were following along as each new video had fewer views, I like to believe that many started out by watching the videos here on RUclips, but eventually switched to JapanesePod101's website and mobile app. This was certainly the case for me. Man how unoptimized japanese writing is. Using 3 alphabets where any of the three on it's own is perfectly capable of representing all of the sounds in the lenguage. In Kanji, having so many different readings and meanings for one character depending on context, what kana is in front of it, the "on" reading, the "kun" reading... geez even chinese is more straightforward. And ooh whyyyy did they make some kana characters so similar to each other?: like ン,ソ.... or シ,ッ ....or ク, ケ ...orア,ャ,マ... I mean there are so many possible shapes you could have done to make each character clearly distinct and unique from one another, yet they choose to recycle basically the same shape; just making it a little more chubby, or drawing a line in a slightly more oblique angle.....pfpft ARRRGHH!!! Don't get me wrong, I love japanese, I'm trying to learn it, but it gets so frustrating sometimes. It's weird, something like this would not happen nowadays. If designers and typographers were to invent a writting system from scratch today, I think many of these things would be avoided. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to stop whinning and just be a better student to learn faster.
I get into arguments with people a lot because I truly believe learning Mandarin (Chinese) is easier and more straightforward than learning Japanese as well. With Mandarin, it's simple, as they only use characters that represent words. Each word can have multiple different vowel inflections, changing the sound of the word slightly, and therefore completely changing it's definition and Chinese character to represent the word. That is IT. that's all there is to learning Mandarin. So, if you have a good memory, learning mandarin Chinese is a piece of cake. Compared to Japanese - Japanese is HELL to learn!!!! But it's fun.

Com licença, Por favor,
Desculpe e Muito Obrigado.
