This will be an interesting comparison. After 13 years of building and racing Pontiacs I’ve never seen someone prefer the B&M shift kit over the Trans-Go.
The size of the stall converter has a huge affect in shift characteristics. Watching to see the difference. 👍

I installed the B&M Transpak in my year 67' turbo 400 back in 1978. Still shifting hard as ever, full manual or auto in my Chevelle to this very day.

Trans Go is hands down light years better than a B&M shift kit in every transmission I've done in the last 45 years.

DO NOT put in a B&M valve body kit. The TransGo kit has the ability to increase the oil feed to the direct clutch pack by apx. 300%. The B&M separator plate does not have this feature, and their 2-3 shift will be slower (softer). The TransGo can be setup to give firmer shifts by following instructions on the "feed hole size" on the separator plate for different torque converter size or stall. Add the Orange PR spring from the TransGo kit, and add the cup seals that are in the kit too. The cup seals will stop any leaks on the 2-3 shift at the center support to case. The smaller diameter the torque converter and the higher the stall the shifts will feel softer. What you want are, smoother shifts at part throttle and quicker and firmer shifts with more throttle. Hard part throttle shifts are hard on splines, which is the gear train. You left out and did not follow the TransGo instructions on this closely. I have been doing this for over 40 years, and have removed at least 75 or more B&M plates and added the TransGo parts to solve the shift problems. The TransGo kits are tried and proven, not the B&M.

@Mike Smith I've had a superior shift improvement kit in my Ford C6 transmission going on 6 years now and I can say it's very good for the money. They seem to sell quality products. Made a night and day difference how a 230K mile transmission shifted.

Spot on. I've been doing the same for over 40 years. Like I said in my comment elsewhere in this thread, Trans Go is hands down light years better than a B&M kit. So now there's a combined over 80 years experience saying the same thing. You want to be a hard headed and say BS? Your choice. You want your trans to work right? Your choice also.

I Used the Transgo and loved it.. Shift hard. I roll tires in 2nd and chirp 3rd hard. I set it to the highest on the 1-2 shift with the blue spring only I believe. I took the 2-3 accumulator Spring out and cut a tube above it to lock it in place. I filled the feed hole with a large ball bearing and sealed it to the very top with JB weld. I drilled the shift point at .144.

    Dear sir,
After a while, the kit for my TH400 GM has finally been installed and back on the car.
I have a problem because gear changes are unnoticeable and i think that the transmission is blocked in third gear.
I drive at 120km/hour with engine at 3000 rev. Per minute.
Even when i change gear with the gear selector in the car, it stays blocked in third.
    I select "L" or "I" and i may run at 120km/hour!!
Do you have please any advice?
Thanks a million for your helo
    Best regards

It seems that the guys that do and use the 4L80E which is the modern 400 tend too like the TransGo kit and the guy's with traditional 400's like the B&M kits better. One kit may be better suited too a specific version of transmission.

It's ok, and acts as expected. The 256 rear end ratio doesn't help matters. Not very happy with the converter and probably going to go B&M there also.

The TransGo kit is the only way to dual feed the direct clutches with the trans installed. The TransGo kit is good, I just wish they weren’t so conservative with shift firmness. I’m guessing they worry about being to aggressive when using a stock or mild converter.
I internally dual fed, and use the B&M check ball and drill sizes, and block the 2-3 accumulator in the valve body. Works well

  • @MudtoyTT

Dual feed modification requires no shift kit. Hard shifts are not good shifts, just hard on parts.

  • @mattrodgers4878
    @mattrodgers4878 Год назад

Since the video is several years old, this information is kinda useless now.
You want it to work well, last a long time, and shift firm? Forget the shift kit, internally dual feed the directs (basically what the TransGo shift kit plate does) follow the B&M drilling and check ball instructions, block the 1-2 accumulator feed in the valve body (the passage under the 2-3 accumulator piston, a 5/16 set screw is perfect for this) problem solved.
Shift kits are great if the transmission is still in the car. If the trans is on the bench, save the money on the shift kit and do the internal dual feed.

Not firm enough? You drill the hole to your choice and if it’s not firm enough, go bigger.
