The "Lag" you observed is intentional...its a slowing of the game for a moment when you level up so you don't just die after being distracted by picking an upgrade. Time Wasters another great bullet hell has a similar mechanic.
Because it's a tie-in game it helps to know a wee bit about deep rock to know what the names refer to, red sugar makes no sense unless you already know that its used for healing. The mining aspect is a good addition to the genre since you can create a funnel of death
The overclocks are really game-changing! Try and get 1 or 2 weapons to lvl 12 in a match to unlock them first of all. Overclocks range from magsize, weapon fire rate to damage type (so you can synergise with the electric boomerange for example)
