i've been recommended this video almost every day for a while, so i thought the algorithm was trying to tell me that i reached an N5 level without me knowing it. i couldn't understand maybe 50% of the listening part on the first pass (hearing it again after knowing the whole content and context is so different), but if you gave me a the sentences in japanese (with furigana) i would have probably translated 90% of the content perfectly. so yeah maybe that counts for something. i didnt lose as much confidence as i thought i would haha
I understood about 85% of every exercise, I think I'm pretty close to being able to have simple conversations with natives. Thank you for this video, you earned one more subscriber!
This video made me so happy! I've been studying japanese by myself since June (last year) and I just clicked on the video thinking that I wouldn't be able to understand a thing. But I got most of the words and my brain was able to "fill the gaps" to make sense from the sentences! I understood like 70% of the exercises! 😊😊😊

I’ve been raw dogging the shit out of learning japanese for a week or 2 now and i can safely say, its working to a degree. I simply lack vocabulary. I could at least understand 1 to the point where i knew what they were talking about. However, recalling those words to make sentences would prove difficult.
Im not too good at listening yet since most of my studying is just reading. So I am trying out covering the english subtitle's so I can still practice if I can understand it with just the Japanese subtitles. Surprised how much I understand it without the english subs. Proud of myself.

聞くのは難しすぎるね。With subtitles I understood like 90% of it but the moment I have to rely solely on my ears I get overwhelmed within a few seconds... I guess it's just the fact that Japanese is spoken at light speed
listening comprehension is almost a completely different skill from reading comprehension. you gotta get your ears used to how the language sounds by listening to naturally spoken japanese a lot for a while.
I am the opposite, because I have learned almost exclusively by listening. I understood almost everything spoken with relatively minor effort, but didn't even try reading. She actually spoke very slowly here, maybe at about half of conversational speed, with extra enunciation, which helped me most of the time, but actually confused me for a second in a couple spots 😅

Like how did duolingo tell you to say "my name is" , completely wrong. "I dont really like ___" completely wrong. Their particle placement and etc just soooo bad

It was pretty easy to understand but I think if the vocab were more difficult I would struggle. So I guess I might be N5 or like low N4. It is actually pretty encouraging.
I think my problem at the moment (even though I haven't actually tried studying Japanese yet) is just not knowing the words for certain topics yet, like, for example if I'm talking about like, games "Kinoo, Baratoro takusan asondeta. Mecha hamatteta ya" and its very like, casual in nature, but thats because the people I listen to often speak casually but if you're telling me to like, turn on the lights, I have no clue if I'll understand
As an Indonesian, this feels extremely weird. I understand everything so damn well, and yet I have never used these IRL apart from reading Union Arena and Weiss cards because bandai distribute japanese cards for asia region. I could perhaps never ever visit japan, nor meet any japanese ever, and yet I can speak the language well enough.

After months of self studying, I finally understand 3 to 5 words in their context, for both only 1st & 2nd practice . I doubted that I wouldn't understand nothing not even one word out of all your sentences. But, this motivate me, for I used to listen to your N5 videos and couldn't catch one word. I'm only learning japanese kanji, didn't thought i would get the 1st one 90% correct and the 2nd and 3rd for 60% accuracy. and just learned some other words by watching anime and listening to songs. now i know my self studying is paying off somehow.
I understood 95% of exercise 1 perfectly, 80-90% of exercise 2, and 60-80% of exercise 3, as percentages of full perfect comprehension. Based on context, I was able to understand 100% of the meaning of exercise 1, 95% of exercise 2, and about 90% of exercise 3. Unfortunately, I know very few kanji, so I doubt I would pass a test for this

Got all of them on the first go! I was a little unsure about if I got the word for “last week” correct but I did! I’ve known how to say “week” for awhile now but words that signify when something is trips me up. I can’t remember “yesterday” for example at all no clue why 😅
It doesn’t but I’m the example sentence she’s saying “is [it] ok/fine/good for me to trouble you for with question” but she translated it as “are you busy” because that’s the most natural way to translate it into English Then the person says “it’s ok!”
Or like “is now ok?” (For me to bother you) Japanese is a high context language so a lot of subtext can be missed when the translation isn’t one to one with English 😅 but keep on keeping on ❤️❤️❤️
This is a contextualization of 大丈夫’s general meaning. It can be used in many different contexts to mean slightly different things. Another way this could be said, but a tad less “polite”, would be to say “今はいいですか？” (“ima wa ii desu ka?”). Which literally translates to “[Is] now good?” Which the worker who is near the ticket booth being who was just asked that question, being a native speaker, would understand you’re reaching out for help. Their job’s position gave them the context they need to understand that sentence. If you went up to a random person standing outside of a konbini and said the same thing, they might look at you confused and say, “ee, nani?” They probably think you want to interview them or you’re about so solicit something weird to them. 😂
1/3 - I got it all in the first try, but I lagged a bit on the meaning of "kaitai" for some reason lol 2/3 - I forgot the meaning of "ha" and "migaite" at first, so seeing the subtitles helped. I also didn't know "kigae" before this, somehow 3/3 - I really needed the subtitles for this one XD

I feel like I am failing because I had been learning for more than a year and I can only understand little bit.. I understood a little more than half of what the first exercise was saying, except misunderstanding some words (like 行き and 入れる), or some words came out sluggish to my ears I only picked up some words for the second exercise, same with the third exercise

It doesn't leave much room for imagining other things in the dinner, but や is basically saying "pork and vegetables were the main things, but there could have been something else as well". や is just a bit more open than と.

Four months in and I don't think there was anything I didn't understand
I feel like I am failing because I had been learning for more than a year and I can only understand little bit..
I understood a little more than half of what the first exercise was saying, except misunderstanding some words (like 行き and 入れる), or some words came out sluggish to my ears
I only picked up some words for the second exercise, same with the third exercise
my hearing leveling is N5 level but at present I learned the kanas and started learining kanji.
Me, who used to be fluent in Japanese and am Japanese: oh yes yes very interesting.
Im still kinda new, but i did understand the first one without subtitles i only didnt cath up "eki" but i understand from the context :)
The second one i understand like 50%? I still have to work a lot with vocabulary
Yup....I'm N6 alright😅😅😅 I could only understand about 70% of the first one and things got progressively harder from there but I'll just have to up my game

In the second one why do we use や to say pork and vegetables? Is と correct too?

と is perfectly fine too, but just has a meaning closer to "pork *with* vegetables". It doesn't leave much room for imagining other things in the dinner, but や is basically saying "pork and vegetables were the main things, but there could have been something else as well". や is just a bit more open than と.
i had the most trouble with the first one, less with the second, and i could understand the third one perfectly.
i dont know what that says...
