Great video Jamie, in my experience sambar can see the infrared light for NV
Not fully but they know it’s not normal and get flighty

Yeah ok interesting you say that, cos the Rusa were very weary as well and I wasn't sure if it was because of the backlit reflection coming out from the viewfinder onto my face. The pigs on the other hand didn't seem to care and I got within about 35m of them!

Suggest a neoprene shade for night the hunting lights - keeps you from illuminating things in the periphery of your cone (gun barrel, feet, etc) and it eliminates throwing long shadows in those instances where you’re panning the gun. Available for purchase in the US or you can stitch up a mouse pad to fit. 🤙

Thanks, that's a good idea, I've not done much night shooting (can probably tell!!) and the light on the Scope reflected off the barrel heaps.

Nice vid mate, any backpacking vids in the pipeline? Taking heaps of info from your trip planning and QnA vids and applying to my planning for a trip I'm doing in about a month. Cheers

@@MountainMan_NZ before after we have a chat down in western port Jamie? 😅
Also just a personal note, I’m glad you mentioned the heat. One of my Olights caught fire to the fabric sheaf they supply with it when it accidentally was switched on.
Olight were actually quite terrible to deal with when I spoke to them about it.
They said it was user error yet their latest model comes with a proximity sensor to prevent that happening again. So if you have one in your pack without a proximity sensor I’d be making sure you remove the battery.
I will never buy their products again after the experience talking with them.
It was really dumb, all they had to say wow yes that’s an issue and give me my money back. Instead they put all the blame on me. I know of at least one other well known RUclipsr who it happened to as well so I’m not alone.

Nice bro, respect that you gave honest feedback and didn't sell your mana for money/products as some hunters do. Those Olight torches are legit, I use them for possum hunting on a mate's farm in Mid Canterbury. Plenty of possums have seen the "light of heaven" haha. Such an awesome range with those torches! Hope all is well with you bro!

Those Olights look pretty good Jamie but the meat price scared the hell out of me I get my Sambar for free from a mate of mine he hunts almost every night using thermal gear on private and he is a good butcher we started primary school together about 69 years ago and we hunted a lot when we were young and we are still good mates .

Certainly can't beat meat from nature's supermarket! We just had some venison tonight too😊

Not sure about the $80 per kg, but seems like on ok price for the night vision hand held. I would have been interested in the torch prices considering you paid for them. Cheers

    • @MountainMan_NZ
      @MountainMan_NZ  Год назад

Thanks Daz, yeah you're right I've overcooked the meat price! I've seen 80$ per kg for prime venison backsteaks. But I guess if you factor in sausages, ribs, and leg meat it's probably closer to 40$ kg on average?
Olight has a 50% sale on now, so definitely worth getting some.
I cant recall exactly what I paid for the Baldr Pro on the bow or for the Javelot Pro original... probably about 500$ total, and I'm happy with that investment. Super stoked to be sent the Array 2 Pro and Javelot Pro 2 kit to test and add these to the kit
      Cheers
