    The 'organ pedal' arrangement was common on several British Classics of the period, usually pretty reliable, BUT yours is certainly careworn! The small spring is rather surprisingly quite adequate and seldom breaks. Of course, the correct operation does also depend on other factors,such as the cable cover not moving, the method of attachment to the carburettors, non-standard S.U.s in your case, and a good quality cable that moves freely. I prefer Bicycle cables with Teflon lined covers, and I also coat the cable itself with a small amount of graphite impregnated 'Moly' Grease

      That is such a good tip about greasing the cables Leon and using cycle cables 👍

    An excellent job on that throttle linkage. My AC is similar, with the top pivoted pedal. With the right set-up, linkages can give a near linear throttle response. Glad to hear those new needles perked it up a bit too.

    That looks like a very good mod, I have a Spitfire pedal to make a similar job on my daughters Herald 13/60 , Looks like it works well. Nice double de-clutching, you're wearing the edge of the pedal rubbers. (Nice Socks Sean). All the best Bob

    53 years old and you certainly don’t let her act like an old lady!
    I bet she was a bit noisy at that unmentionable top speed, although overdrive must help; I find my ears can only take about 65mph max in the Herald. Haven’t been brave enough to take her up to warp speed yet, can’t really afford an engine rebuild!
    I’ll certainly try to make the get together!

    I enjoy your videos a great deal, Sean, but they also make me a little sad that I had my Vitesse for such a short time (about six months) and so long ago. Hats off to you for these improvements - the Vitesse convertible is a practical vehicle, but it's also a great deal of fun - and anything that increases that fun has to be good! I envy all of you who will be taking part in that drive day! Best wishes, Colin.

    Sean, maybe April wasn't ideal for the meet anyway with the weather we are having, sure to be better from May, your situation permitting. had similar myself, just shows we are older than the cars!!

    i find the "organ pedal" arrangement allows for heel & toeing which can be useful when your synchro gets worn!

    • @seanhumfrey
      @seanhumfrey  6 месяцев назад

      I agree. On my 67 2 Litre it works beautifully. But on the set up as I had it on Bess, not so much heel and toe as stamp and toe! Once my left foot has fully recovered and I can wear appropriate shoes again I intend to try heel and toe with the new set up👍

      @@seanhumfrey Interested to see how that works out - there seems to be quite a gap between the pedals! Good Luck!

    I have a Vitesse and am interested in this mod. I have Strombergs, but the organ pedal travel and general setup, despite being perfectly well installed and maintained, does make it quite a nuanced effort to drive smoothly. I would like to be able to modulate the throttle more easily without such a concerted effort.
    I have a few questions if you can help?
    1. Does the Spitfire pedal bolt on using existing holes or is drilling of the bulkhead necessary?
    2. Is this accelerator pedal from any particular mark of Spitfire?
    3. You might not be able to answer this one, but do you think the throw of the arm on the spitfire pedal will match the range of movement required by the arm on the stromberg carb spindles?

      @seanhumfrey  5 месяцев назад +1

      Good questions. The work was done by David Aspinall and his colleague John at Anglian Triumph Services in Bungay. I am sure David would be happy to have a chat with you about the set up. My Mark 1 2 Litre has the factory set up, organ pedal and strombergs. I have to say that I prefer that to what is on my Mark 2. That said the Spitfire pedal with the SUs is so much better than the organ pedal with the SUs. Sorry I can't give you the technical advice you need, but truthfully I would be guessing and I know David will have all the answers and the bits you may need.

      @@seanhumfrey Thanks kindly! I’ll give David a ring next week. I’m really interested in giving this a go and will report back if successful. If not, I will just switch back to existing setup. Thanks for the reply.
