My Uncle used to sing "me" to sleep with this song. I thought it was called Brightly Beams. I remember I'd ask him over and over to sing "Brightly Beams". Eventually he'd fall to sleep and I'd be back up singing the song. I just found out a few years ago the real title of the song. It's still my favorite but no one could sing it like my Uncle Bobby could.
To our Filipino seafarers, may God Almighty keeps the lower light be burning so that you all reach the shores safely and gladly claimed that through Jesus there's Salvation!
I love the visual. The higher light (Christ) is steadfast and higher up. We're to let our (His) light shine through us on the lower shore so that the sailors out on the waves know where they can line up to make it safe back to the port, without crashing on the rocks.

My grandfather played the musical saw and this was the first song he taught me how to play it as well. I was about 14 at the time and am now 68 years young. Beautiful song. It came to mind for some reason and I found my way here.

This is my favourite rendition of this beautiful hymn. I'd like to know who wrote the 4th verse as the original written by Philip Bliss has only 3 verses. To me the 4th verse is so important as it reminds us that Jesus is our Pilot. Can anyone tell me who wrote this verse? God bless
