  • Let's say you have shortlisted a couple of equity mutual funds, how do you choose between those? While it's almost impossible to predict which fund will do better, you can ensure that you can pick funds that are well managed. Also, picking funds just by looking at the past return is a recipe for disaster.
    In this video, Karthik explains:
    1. Why you shouldn't just look at point to point returns and instead look at rolling returns
    2. How do understand the risk and return trade-off of funds
Check out the chapter on rolling returns to learn more: zerodha.com/va...

I love the "if you're capable of nitpicking on the fund's portfolio, then why mutual funds. With that, let's move on" 🧐

One shall not jsut shop around because the expense ratio is high. A good product is a good option so people do not have problems when they pay a little higher for such things.

Hello Sir....The video is very informative...thank you for all the information
    I had one query though.
I have few equity mutual funds in regular plan....and wanted to switch to direct plan. As the funds are performing well I would preferably take the same funds in direct plan.
Q1. What all parameters/charges should I look at?
Q2. How do I calculate the TDS on closure of these mutual funds? Any document or info you can point to for this.

Hey Akshay, we've explained regarding this taxation bit here: support.zerodha.com/category/mutual-funds/understanding-mutual-funds/about-mutual-funds/articles/how-does-taxation-work-for-mutual-fund-investments
Regarding your questions on charges, there are no charges from Zerodha Coin when you buy and sell a mutual fund.

Too much numerical or statistical analysis is confusing. I prefer Large Cap funds, and a mix of LC and Midcap funds. It provides fair degree of growth and security to the capital. These are not going to go up in a puff! This rule has worked well for me for the last seven years.
