  • Genia Burmenko, was born in 1917 and lived with her family in Berdichev in Ukraine. A short time after the Germans occupied the area, the local population was forced into a ghetto. On September 15, 1941, together with the rest of the Jews of her town, Genia was taken to the Shlemarka airfield.
At the edge of the murder pit, Genia succeeded in convincing the murderers that she was a worker that they needed and they allowed her to live. She spent the rest of the war under an assumed identity.
