I planted comfrey all over my little urban homestead. The chickens won't touch it. But I'm glad to have it for making compost tea and chop and drop it around all my veggies and fruit trees :)
@@snoodlegirl1794 who's liver? mine or the chickens' ? Excessive consumption of anything can damage a human (except lettuce greens I guess) I'm not worried about using comfrey in my compost as it adds tons of minerals and nutrients to the soil. And the constant warnings about not consuming comfrey have been debunked
I'm in need of comfrey seed for planting I'm from Nigeria let me know the cost and mode of payment and how to collect I will appreciate your assistance thanks
I grow comfrey for compost and mulch. Deer won't touch it, rabbits won't touch it and I won't touch it unless I have long sleeves and gloves on. It's very prickly!
Awesome thanks, we have tons of comfrey in the garden. I know it's good for the compost and to layer in beds but I didn't know we could feed it to the ducks and chickens
Yes comfrey is edible if dried and put into capsules used for different health problems but must be taken with A LOT of Water. Its best use is for helping to knit broken bones and bruises. My hubby had chipped his shin bone so I put comfrey poultices on his leg twice a day for 5 or 6 days and it healed very nicely and fast. So yes it is a great heath benefit for you as well as yard and animals.
Great job James. I like that you gave the back story to the ducks and you were going to move the tractor where the greener grass is. I’d like hear more from James.
Great shirt and video “do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in law against her mother in law.”
If you have a large enough stand of comfrey, can you dry it in the summer/fall to serve all winter & spring? Also, I'm growing Sunchokes & Canna edulis as year-round feed for my chickens & goats bcz they can eat the leaves and Tubers of both. Sunchokes leaves are 40% protein!! Canna edulis leaves are 10% protein. We're going to start new goat/horse bedding/manure compost piles in the chicken yard so they can harvest extra worms & bugs & compost the pile faster for us. I want to learn to grow/find 75-100%+ of our chicken feed/grit/calcium.
I’ve had luck adding new foods to their ferments, then they will also eat them”fresh” but I don’t have comfrey… YET! I’ll plant some with the Xmas cash I was just gifted. Also chickweed, which I don’t have. This year has been all about getting my 8 beautiful babies into egg production. Garden & forage pasture/protection can now be planned after I acquired a good powerdrill! Still need to get my dad’s table saw working.
For those asking where to buy the non seeding Comfrey, I purchased mine from Rise and Shine Rabbitry and was very happy with it. I got mine when a sale was run so you may can ask if they're planning a sale soon.
I know this is an older video. I just moved and left all of my comfrey under snow and ice. I need some more roots. Do you have any available? I like to mix a variety of plants. Comfrey, mulberry and willow are the dominant ones.
Nice video just a suggestion on your chicken tractor just to make life easier moving it around a single trailer Jack on all 4 corners raise it up when moving it push hole tractor one hand in any direction when you reach the spot you want you can lower the Jack so bottom of the tractor back on the ground! Just a suggestion is all
Mine pick at my comfrey, young milk week, they eat the berries of the bittersweet nightshade. Those are the main three, plus my strawberries 😄 and grass seed heads
HELLO ARE YOU GUYS STILL TRYING TO HELP OUT WITH EDITING. I KNOW IM LATE TO THE PARTY BUT I FIGURED IT WAS WORTH A SHOT. ITS KICKING MY BUTT RIGHT NOW. WERE TRYING TO START A SMALL HOMESTED CHANNEL AS WELL
My comfrey self-trims. I wondered if that was normal, bcz it grew up nice, then as the first stems fell over to the side all around, a new batch of stems grew up in the middle. Wish I would have known it would grow back so willingly when chopping down to the ground. That first set of stems got wasted. I know for this year though! Thanks!
Thank you. Very cool video and good to learn from your skills. Can you also suggest a ratio of how much of what in a duck feed? I'm having trouble with my local mill's laying mash and they aren't producing eggs for a long time now. I have to do something different. But I'm thinking you might have better gas mileage if you cut half the plant off instead of the whole thing.
Good job sir 🥳,but the problem is this; I became in love with the plant but I don't know how I can get it. I have searched alot in my home land but I couldn't find it. Do you think you can help me for that? 😔🤗

If you feed a bunch of it to a lab rat and nothing else you may see toxicity. Studies probably sponsored by industrial complex. So limit the intake to maby 10 % of animal diet and observe.

Does that mean I can get the exact comfrey like yours by buying the seeds in Amazon?
What s that plant you fed to ducks?
Comfrey is very medicinal as well. Great for wound care muscle aches. Plants are amazing.
It's super good for menstural cramps and MS, too. Great stuff.
I did find it hilarious that nothing ate the comfry! Thank you for the laugh
Maybe they ate earlier
yeah because luckily animals are not as stupid as author of this video and know that comfrey is poisonous plant....
Bet you have had multiple jabs too.@@maksmaso4741
Thanks. I plan to grow some on our new land where we will establish our orchard.
What kind of orchard are you planning?
I haven't seen the birds running for the comfrey!
My husband and I are comfrey fanatics too! Haha love it!

Yo Len, it actually says "Stainless Steel" in Japanese. - Jimbo
Hey Jimbo! Good to know! I love how well it works to cutting comfrey and other large chop/drop items. Have you ever used one??

What are the green trees where the ducks are and that flowering bush?
That’s for a baby Ninja
The large Japanese text merely says " Stainless steel " ;)
I would like to know the particular name for seeds you plant for comfrey Please.
Can you dry it and store for winter? We have really cold winters. Thank you.
Yes❤
What is the name of this variety of Comfrey you are growing? "Backing 14", is that correct?
Bocking 14
I don’t know man. You keep saying they all love it… Yet I can’t see a single bird in this video loving that comfrey Stuff.
Mine eat it like crazy but the chickens like it best once it’s wilted. My rabbits love it as well

They say the sweat pea shrub too though I don’t have any
Yup birds and pigs alike
Any other perennial duck feeds you can recommend?

Where did you get your punisher shirt? My son would love one like that.

You can cut it right down to the ground, does not matter at all, it comes back 2-3 times a year depending on environment.
We feed ours cat food paws and claws and they start laying again it’s really high in protein and that’s what gets them to laying again

They dont to zeem to attack it
Anything bearing seed is fruit, and it is good, anything that comes from thistle? Not so much 🤷
Please give your birds at least 1 acre of land to move on. Those cages are too small and inhumane!
