im more surprised the uk gov were so willing to let their prime minister be portrayed like such an incompetent comically sexist idiot in their actual government buildings. maybe not surprised but endlessly disappointed nonetheless
It would actually be an interesting module to create for UK schools. Take a few TV shows that have covered a few different government departments and give young people an overview of how government really works. It would help young people with their civic duties and understandings as to why things are the way their are etc.
As a retired member of the US Foreign Service, the Foreign Secretary’s take on the Diplomat showed a fun commentary on how diplomats and viewers should view this show. There are elements which must offer realism and truth and there are elements which need a bit of ‘context cooking’ and over the top drama to make the show sing as a great TV show. The Diplomat has the perfect mix. As for the appeal of Foreign Secretary Cleverly vs. David Gyasi, I think it’s a toss up as to who takes the lead on handsome and charming.
experimental? There is no mix. Pure Documentation. Its fascinating, how Crowdstrike shows us the deepnies about always having a handsome bag full of tea. Not that a lot of us would love to see how america plays this year out. But as always, its a game of crowns. So context cooking would be, to fill the Welfen bag with angelsaxons tea. Instead of having enough cookies to enjoy the american year.
Because it could go down the other way. If Crowdstrike wasnt a strikebreaker, and the other Side of the Documentation plays stupid, there never was a experimental thing in common. Just some dudes who have texted a lot about a szenario, whithout more than playing it thourgh. If Crowdstrike wasnt die Code-Founding Use of ChatGTP to update the Intel 486I and having an issue about middle europeans young historic problems, instead of cleaning up the problem, it would take years to zertifcate the dudes, because in that case, the state of the dudes has a lot to explain. More than a lot. Because one of the dudes shouldnt be getting out of the security footage of society. When i would be one of the dudes .... *Tom Baker laugh* ... i would prefer to play stupid this days. Its enough how we get to Assange and how the game of roses has lost control. When we ask the americans, the experiemtal part cant end, because, we use its since 20 years.
Netflix should move beyond the bonhomie vibe of Western European missions and delve into the Real Deal experiences and challenges faced by US diplomats... portraying missions in the Middle East, Central Asia, Russia, and China!
Oh, he goes to lots of places, at great public expense, and to no good effect other than to make himself look good. Dude thinks he's a rock star. Pathetic.
They used to be called ministries, the shift overtime was towards being called departments (with some retain the moniker _'office'_ and others for traditions sake retaining _'ministry'_ like the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Defence). Also, the UK does not have a federal political structure, so no such 'federal departments' exist.
The short answer is there’s no rhyme or reason to it and you can call the departments “department,” “department,” “office,” “ministry” as a prefix or suffix or even use “department of state for” as a prefix. The department heads can be called “secretary,” “minister,” or “secretary of state” (though minister is technically incorrect).
Dimpy Saganee works against violence towards women but signed an Egyptian petition vilifying Israel and rejecting the overwhelming proof of mass rapes on October 7.
First off, it's a bloody fictional TV show, not a documentary. Second, compression of events is critical or the show becomes boooooring. Not going to see the actual protocols used because they are booooring. Can't devote 25 minutes of a 50 minute episode to all the nit noisy players involved in setting up meetings. Boooooring. Third, if Kate Wyler was already a PAS in the DoS (or any Federal agency) then under the Federal Vacancies Act of 1998 POTUS absolutely has the authority to send her to London "in a couple of days".
Cringe. Pathetic. Humiliation. Someone tell him he represents the British peoples the world over. He can be a tool if he wants on his own time. Salisbury once held this office, back when Britain won its wars.
Foreign Secretary not realising this is a fictional TV series. A series that has to make obvious compromises regarding locations and sets. Compromises on content is a given it being fictional, My only real concern is that the Foreign Secretary regards this as a good use of his time. That last explains more than perhaps he had wished.
You, not realizing that at the end of the video the Foreign secretary said that the show is not about being accurate, it is about being exiting and that the show is a good fun.
I love that both the British Foreign Secretary and US State Department put out their own reaction vids of the show!
me too,
yes, & both used it as an opp to openly recruit
I don't love it. Those f***ers should stick to doing their jobs.
@@zeffiraananas3999why ? Nobody wants to join government??
The Diplomat may not be completely factually accurate, but can we appreciate how great the writing and acting is?
Fantastic show.
@@Shawn_Kelleyhow so? Why?
@chance258 Well written, produced and acted. Very entertaining.
@@Shawn_Kelleyare you a diplomat? Or work in international relations area?
I'd love more of these types of vids with ministers... it humanises them!
Unfortunately, some of them are not very humanised…
Almost but not quite -it gives the false impression that they're human to gullible real humans. That's the point.
That was a very cool transition at the end. Fairplay
I’m surprised they were able to film in the real locations
We need all the cash we can get

This is such a good idea. I remember being a teen with no idea any of these occupations existed!

The actor is doing a better job than James Cleverly in my opinion! 😮
Not hard tbh 😂

Nice film about diplomacy on netflix: Sergio

Not when his party is going to Opposition next year
They should do more of these with Ministers. Neeeeerd!.
The show made it seem really exciting. Just graduated from college too.
So in the UK federal departments are called ministries but they call the cabinet ministers secretaries?

Thank you! Wonderful video, Mr. Secretary!
Where is Sir Humphrey hovering in the background
This one is sharp as a tack!
That was more fun than the show.
Great idea. Thank you for providing a reality check
Enjoyed watching sir, looking forward in meeting you again in Berlin at some point. B.S.
Exciting but not exact. that's why it is a fiction show inspired by reality.

Tbf the lest accrate bit is the minister not being switched due to some Tory party nonsenses
Great video.
is that not a waste of time for the foreign secretary at this highly challenging time?
Sure is. All part of his endless, rolling, personal propaganda mission.
Almost as interesting as the series !!
good idea

Well that was the most banal bit of PR and self promotion a FS has ever been misadvised to partake in.
