    Thank you for explaining how to read it...some might know how to read it but I did not. I appreciate your patience with showing that.

      @@CandorPerliciousMy question with that tool is if it tells me that I should cut the pieces at 60 to form the 120 degree angle, isn't there a miter saw that does that or will I have to divide 60 by 2 in that case? I think that after 47 I must have a method my saw doesn't cut more than that. who helps me

    I have that tool and love it. For inside angles, it is doing the math for you ([180 - wall angle measurment]/2). The issue with the angle chart in the manual (not Lexivon's fault) is that crown moulding makers do not always machine their angles at the stated values. The 38/52 designation of moulding can be slightly different when measured by 1 degree or more. There are more comprehensive charts that you can google that actually give you "Crown Slope Angle" by increments of 1 degree, which allow you to customize the angle you cut on your saw to exactly the spring angle on your moulding.

    Got the same one from Saker, the manual sucks, and instructions are none existence, had a issue trying to figure out how to use it till I saw this video, like what dial to read of the inside or outside of the unit, but yours on the instructions says Saker too. Where did you get that booklet? THANKS,

      I'm very glad to hear that you did this on your own. A lot of women would be intimidated by something like that. Congrats and thanks for subscribing. I hope I can continue to showcase more items that you might find interesting.

      That different brand was a cheap Chinese knockoff! I wouldn’t trust that to my expensive crown and baseboard. Mom course I used the industry leader and inventor...Starrett.

    I have an angle of 120 which the tool will ask me to cut each piece at 60, but the problem is that my saw only goes up to 47, what should I do in that case. The one I bought is the same but it did not come with a manual, only a QR code that takes me to a video and only talks about the cuts for angles that do not exceed 90

    Just bought one for £10.98 🇬🇧 from Amazon.
    Really good quality compared to the plastic starret with plastic numerals

    A better explanation is needed. The total angle is shown on the outer scale opposite the 0 on the inner scale.
    Let’s say the angle is 80. Set the 80 on the outer scale across from 0 on the inner scale. Now look on the single cut arrow and read the outer scale. It’s 10. That represents the setting on your miter saw. It’s derived by subtracting 80 from 90.
    Look at the outer arrow for a miter cut. It reads 50. 80/2=40. 90-40=50. 50 is the miter saw setting. Most saws only go to 45. In that case you make a simple jig but there are other videos that will explain this.
    The reason for the odd numbers is because the scale on a miter saw reads 0 when cutting a 90. You have to compensate for this. The scale on a mitersaw corresponds to the angle readings on a speed square. If using a protractor you have to subtract from 90. Confusing but if you practice a bit it will make sense.

    Do you agree that a miter protractor goest best with a contour gauge?

    • @CandorPerlicious
      @CandorPerlicious  4 года назад

      So sorry for not responding earlier. In my honest opinion I wouldn't say a contour gauge goes best with a miter protractor. I will say that having one IS a good idea regardless. When laying floor boards, laminate counters and such it cold be an invaluable tool for making perfect cuts. I wish I had one years ago when laying flooring and had to match an odd corner with a rounded edge.

    Great Video. Any ideas where i can obtain a replacement Manual?

      Other than contacting Lexivon and asking if they have one, no. However funny you should ask that question because just the other day I was looking at a printout I made for my video prep and was thinking about this very issue. Give me a little bit and I will see if I can't scan the manual I have and make it available digitally. I will also try and all my contact if they have any solutions as well.
