It's a very good idea to always keep safety on, I think it can shoot accidentally if you move around too much or maybe jump or something. Just yesterday I finally managed to kill the Nutcracker solo, got all his belongings, then I ran to the other side of the mansion, and while was walking around, DB suddenly shot. I swear, I didn't press M1, nor performed any other action with it, but I did shit myself and shot another shell from panic. All this time, safety was off. Guess that's game's way of teaching me gun safety lmao. Be careful, fellow employees, you don't want to accidentally discharge this thing in your friends' faces 5:37 "He's beginning to believe..." Edit: spider can be definitely killed, but judging by your footage, its hitbox seems to be weird as hell
I wonder if that's an actual mechanic by the dev to make funny moments where one crewmember isn't being careful enough and blasts his friend's head off.
It does seem to very rarely go off at random if your safety isn't on. Either that, or everyone has been using that as an excuse for killing someone in cold blood. Even if it doesn't, safety is a good idea because it means you won't bang your friends if they round the corner too quickly and you're a screamer.
The db can fire itself at any time randomly if its not on safety, even when dropped on the ground (or in someones inventory apparently?), causing it to waste a round and possibly injure or kill teammates.
Hitting it in the eye is what kills It. Also it doesn’t spot you at all until the head rises and the eye comes out, you can literally just walk in front of them and they won’t see you
The spider dies to one shot. You just ran into them in unfortunate places. The stairs blocked the first shot and the railing blocked the rest. Same thing can happen when the nutcracker uses the shotgun, its hurtbox gets blocked by weird things sometimes.
That little camera shake with no scream when he first sees the bracken is such an understable thing. You can instantly tell what he was thinking just from that little shudder
A classic hitbox shenanigans moment with the spider attempt, and the dogs seem to have a funny hitbox as well, maybe it's a bug that makes the bullets go through, or more likely, they have no head hitbox only body. Enemies should definitely have a head hitbox like humans do (or whatever the cause is for taking 80 damage from a single swing is LOL)
This video was very instructive. Obviously for the nut-cracker cracking things open, but also for the option to turn spiders into all caps letters. It's convincing me even more to take this game.
Btw I can say that getting the nutcracker to 4 hits is very dangerous since the nutcracker shoots faster based on hp and you can see once he’s 1 hit left, he starts shooting instantly
While it's fine to not able to kill everything with it I'll admit that it's super disappointing that it has no feedback whatsoever, there's no ricochets, no thuds, no crunches, no flinches, no mini stuns, etc. it just needs a little something so you *know*.
jesters should get their speed reduced (if it's cranking or following someone it should get pushed backward) when shot, coilheads should get pushed a little and their heads should move, and giants should get stunned a little. nothing that would make the shotgun a ton better, but enough to provide feedback

I've yet to get my mitts on a shotty yet but it doesn't seem to be that good, much like the shovel it suffers from lack of consistency. Maybe we'll get an update that will give combat a once over. Maybe we'll also get a crowbar or pathetically weak punch.
It's really good on moons with lots of Thumpers, Spiders and Brackens. But it doesn't do shit to any mid-late game monsters (except the masked, who are pretty easy to shovel to death), so it falls off until you go to Titan, where it's decent-ish.
I scrolled down hundreds of comments and saw none about the goldfish, so even though i'm quite late, I suggest you name it Captain and set the bowl down so that the ship controls lever is clipped inside. The lack of an interaction command with the goldfish means this doesn't impede access to it, and Captain is my friend and he always does his best.
I've heard you can pick up the shotgun while the nutctacker reloads. In the video you can see a prompt regarding your inventory whenever you approach it.

I really feel like they should make just running the shotgun (or having a dedicated shotgun guy) a lot more viable in the game. At the moment, it DOES have its uses being insanely powerful against all monsters, but it almost never feels worth it having to take up a slot because once those two shells are gone (assuming you didn't take up space in your inventory holding shells), you'll have to go all the way back to the ship for more, carry around the empty weapon which is still quite heavy, and it's very hard to find a use for the gun outside of getting right up in a thumper's face or anything's face for that matter. In that instance, a shovel would be better served assuming you know how to fight whatever it is. A shotgun is usually overkill. I feel like they should at-least make the shells buyable in the store once you obtain the shotgun and have it onboard, but make it so it's rather expensive per shell (like 40 credits) so that buying a whole lot of them isn't a very viable strategy. That way you don't always have to keep killing more nutcrackers for ammo. And maybe perhaps get a shotgun shell ammo pouch that contains up to 4 or 6 extra rounds, with the downside being that's it's quite cumbersome paired with the shotgun so you'd generally want to leave it by the door or something.

And of-course my suggestion to make the shells rather expensive en-masse makes it so you can't just afford to blow every enemy away. The shotgun won't be spammy (satchel makes you slow and only holds up to 4 shells), and the price makes acquiring lots of shells very hard. Not like a shooter at all. Basically, if you're going to add a shotgun to a game like this, at-least make it worth taking. The current shotgun is too much hassle to not only obtain, but maintain. And you only find use out of it in situations where a shovel wouldn't work if you happen to encounter another nutcracker. Any other situation it would be preferable simply using a shovel.

The blind dogs for instance, even if for some reasons the shotgun was meant to be ineffective against them why wouldn't they at least hear a shotgun going off right next to them? Hopefully some of these weird interactions get fixed so we can be true big game hunters.

I think the dogs can also be killed with it, but it wasnt doing any damage in the video because it was in patrolling mode.

Maybe the snare flea was in the way, hence why it kept on making the death sound? It might have just been eating your bullets
