Look up "Achtung Spitfire" if you want to see one of the first attempts at this gameplay. It was a mindblowing idea back then, but the limitations of earlier computers really show. Scramble is probably what they wanted to create, if they had the means. Looks really cool so far.
This looks like a 3D version of an old Flash game called Steambirds, where you have an extremely similar but simpler turn-based dogfight over a flat 2D plane. While you didn't have to worry about things like stalling out or your pilot suddenly becoming grievously aware of G-forces, you instead had to deal with shenanigans like giant heavily armed attack zeppelins and odd ways of enemies keeping you off their tail like weaponized gas trails or airburst freefall bombs
Really happy to see you enjoyed the demo. I hope you check out the Early Access release! It's out now and it has a whole new mode called Squadron Leader with permadeath pilots each with unique traits.
I mean your basically playing high speed-three dimensional, asymmetric chess with projectiles and a health does of nerd and mechanical knowledge. All going at breakneck speeds
i always considered dogfighting a chess match, or at least that's how I describe It to Outsiders. it looks simple from the surface, but there's a lot of strategy underneath
There’s a Board game just like this called Wings of Glory, though it’s mostly World War 1 aircraft instead of World War 2 aircraft, which you can still get for the board game.
Aeronautica Imperialis? If that's the one you're thinking of, I remember it! It was alright. Theme was good but it was quite clunky to control if I remember right.
What led to me having success in the demo of the game was not rely on the predictions to line up shots at the end of the predictor. You want to line up shots, especially longer exposure, from the beginning of the trail. Where they are guaranteed to be, versus where they can really turn later on in the next turn. A number of turns of flyby attacks right at the start instead of trying to remain behind the enemy for sustained chases.
Scramble: One of the way people prefers egg, how someone is described when confused and a word that gets the Few absolutely booking it to their Aircraft
Both are accurate the reason me is used is because the licensed manufacturer was changed later in the war and therefore the manufacturer initials were changed
So far, this game is an absolute blast! I'm hoping later updates will include the Hurricane & more German birds like the He 111, Ju 88 & Do 17. (Playing this while listening to "Aces High" by Maiden is killer...)
@@PanzerPaw I played the demo over the summer. Glad to see the AI has improved more than "dive and turn right constantly till you hit the water" lol and new planes! Originally they just had stukas and bf109s. I'd love to see you play the 'three spits attacking 3 stukas and 2 109s' mission. It's loads of fun.
@@PanzerPaw Please no, if they do then the Big Wing should be modelled on reality... Arriving late, well after the German bombers had dropped their bombs, assuming it arrived in time to make the intercept at all.... As a concept the Big Wing simply did not work in a battle like the BoB. A fact largely ignored simply because it looked impressive.
Poached and scrambled is pretty close man...depends on my mood..and you know what boild egg and soldiers has something to say also...my my its a big debate
I wish there was a army game where you play as the Axis side and the different factions within. With graphics like the recent Wolfebstein. First or third person. Im bored of only playing one side. With every other historical battle, you can play both sides. WW2 should be no different.
@hansvonflammenwerfer2817 Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. When the 109 and 110 were created, Willy Messerschmitt was not yet the owner of the Bf, hence the planes he designed still had the Bf in their name
Side miers made two games the same 30years ago this is just a rip off with modern graphics. Not faulting the game I enjoyed the side miers games so no doubt will like this but it's not new idea.

Steambirds was so much fun. And I can definitely see the comparison. There's a lot more going tho with the energy management and 3d space in general.
@@absoluteknifeofhyperstabby9233 Steambirds mentioned (Peak)
Oh my, this wasn't just a fever dream! Yeah, it was really cool and unique, hope this game goes for more realistic simulation rather than arcadey one
This video unlocked a dear old memory of a flash game I forgot the name of. And I thank you for refreshing what the game’s name was
Yea, I agree. Scrambled eggs are awesome

Agreed, especially if you cooked it perfectly
With some ham in it and on some buttered bread🔥🔥🔥
This could be a very useful game to learn dogfighting techniques for sims like DCS and VTOL.

Turned based plane games are a interesting combination alright

There's also the WW2 version
this reminds me of a 40k air combat game I saw once with a similar turn-based concept
it's very interesting!
Aeronautica Imperialis? If that's the one you're thinking of, I remember it! It was alright. Theme was good but it was quite clunky to control if I remember right.
Keep going with thia game, is really interesting to see, great work pal
Mm, yes. Scrambled Messeschmit 109. Tasty.
Sid Meir had two games like this Ace Patrol(WW1) and then Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies(WW2)
Oh it's a hopefully non-mobile version of Sid Meiers Ace Patrol! That rules.
Sid Meier made two turn based games lile that 10 years ago, ww1 western front and ww2 Pacific war.
Sid Meier's Ace Patrol

There are some other turn-based plane games on Steam. Even Warhammer 50,000 has one.
This is what happens when you dump a tanker into a fighter lmao
True. This is why I stayed on the ground 😅
Your only move is flight
This is something for Defyn
This is like that one top down airplane flash game I played years ago. SOMEONE has to remember what I am talking about
I had a look and I think it was Steambirds 1945
@@Funi980 There was also a retail game in 97 called "Achtung Spitfire". It was too far ahead of its time though, there were too many limitations.
Idk if this is the exact game but i remember a phrase from the game, “blast those Jerry’s out in our english skies!”
I remember Steambirds! That game was so good
the way this game does turns is the same as battlestar galactica deadlock, i think youre gonna love that game too

Its very interesting to see air combat in a turnbased format coming from stuff like il2 thanks for sharing
why didn't you reduce throttle at any point in the attack?
wow. i wish DCS had a turn based mode like this as an optional style of play. nice to be able to relax a bit and go thinky.
I hope this expands to the Pacific and Eastern Theatres
Poached and I will meet you in the air over it. They used to be a turn based 40K aerial combat game pretty cool but I couldn't get it to click for me.
Yes, I played that one too and yeah it never really took off. Also poached is acceptable. But only just acceptable.
@@PanzerPaw Your acceptable is acceptable.
It's essentially a ww2 version of the Tie Fighter table top game.
I got a headake only by looking at your video. :))
Would love to see you try DCS
I have a board game called air power it plays like this.
Damn those machine guns have crazy spread
I'm pretty sure it wasn't that crazy
No but I think those are 303s which really sucked overall also a spitfire isn't the most stable shooting platform
Wing mounted guns are more problematic with spread than nose mounted
"It's turn based" all dogfighting is turn based
I see what you did there 😆
Bubi Hartmann disagrees
What I would love to see is a Big Wing battle. Imagine doing this with hundreds of spitfire and hurricanes vs hundreds of bombers in formation? Lol
That would be amazing and chaotic. Hopefully they add that in the full game
